I don't know why I keep watching hamster/guinea pig videos I can't have one lol. I am in college and I live with my mom and she won't even let me have a fish. :(

All in all, if I were forced to make a choice, I’d say I like Guinea Pigs better, but it’s SUCH a hard choice to make. I’ve had, and fallen IN LOVE, with both...such a toss up, they both have perks. Pigs live longer, way longer, but hamsters get to run around in their ball(sooo fun). Pigs are better for cuddling, but hamsters take up less room. Pigs are way more social, but that can be a double edged sword, where as hamsters tend to be WAY quieter. Pigs can go outside to play with you, while hamsters have a way simpler diet to follow and don’t need baths. I don’t find either particularly smellier than the other, and there both just sooo darn adorable. 🥰
in my experience their both amazing animals! Guinea pigs are better for interactive animals though hamsters prefer to spend their time by themselves. Amazing video Nat! xx
Yes!! They absolutely MUST be in pairs!! They are social animals, obviously, some circumstances they can be kept alone (eg they are aggressive to other pigs) but not otherwise. x
Summary *Guinea Pig* : Bigger in size, social(atleast 2 litters), require more space, diurnal pet, likes to be handled. *Hamster* : Small, not social, require less space but loves a wheel, mostly nocturnal, does not like to be handled. If you have time in hand go for a guinea, if you're a busy person with less apartment space go for a hamster. Upvote!
That is not true please do your research and tame the hamster you may be talking about, anyway NOT all hamsters aren't tame only the ones that have not got at a young age. They do like being handled but like everyone, nobody likes to be woken up when sleeping. This is something most hamster owners do and it is not fair. So I hope you do a little more research next time

Majestic Isle do guinea oigs need running space! I reaaaalllllyyyy want a hamster but cant.... we were going to get one and saw there band where i live, if i guinea pig lived outside it would probably get killed by a snake.... so what do u have to say? My dog would attack the guinea pig if it saw it so my guinea pig would have to stay in my bedroom, i prob wont get one because the guinea pig wouldnt be happy
Hmm, I personally go for guinea pigs. There better for cuddling, (at least my abyssinians are,) and I think, in my opinion, there cuter. You really don't have to donate much space to 2 guinea pigs, which is an average amount of guinea pigs to have. Mine are in my living room with 8 sq. ft in the corner. We have a removable pen attached to their cage so they can go in and out. Guinea pigs are not very fidgety or tiny, so it's easy to hold on to them.
I’ve owned both and guinea pigs are definitely more loving in my experience plus, they’re easier to train tricks to in exchange for treats!! And they are decently way more intelligent domesticated compared to their wild counterparts.
Actually guinea pigs are vegan, which makes them less smelly than hamsters, I clean out my pigs cage once a week and it doesn't smell very bad. You have many pigs, which is probably the reason why it smells a bit more.
Guinea pigs smell more. I have 3 guinea pigs and a hamster and the hamster doesn't smell at all. The guinea pigs cage smell like poop and pee all the time tho.

I want a guinea pig so bad I believe it'll make me depression go away but sadly I can't afford to take care of one and what's more sad is I'm afraid it'll die earlier than it should.
Don't worry about the dying part. That is inevitable and often there is nothing you could have done to prevent it from dying. Of course, get them to the vet pronto is they are sick.
Hey bud don't worry. just take care of them well and they shouldnt die to early. also you should save up money so you can afford them. the aren't a lot of money at all
I have a Syrian hamter and she is super friendly and easy to take care of. She has a good size cage that I made my self but she doesn’t take up tons of space, where as guinea pigs need a LOT more space. I was considering getting guinea pigs at first but I’m very happy with my hamster. 😁
I've had a guniea pig before and I would defiantly recommend you getting a hamster instead. Me and my guniea pig had a really great bond but there was just not a lot to do with the pig. He can't run on a wheel because it will strain his back. Hamsters can get in a little ball thing and you can make him a lot of things because his cage would be a bit bigger probably and the hamster is smaller so if you make it some kawaii furniture it won't just sit in it and crush it. I loved my guinea pig and still do but there just wasn't much I could do to make him feel very happy. I could take him out and let him run around and let him but thats just a few things you can do with a guinea pig compared to a hamster.

I own a single guinea pig however I spend nearly all day with it. I bring it on vacation, cuddle it when I'm watching movies and hell I even bring it when I'm on sleep overs so I can spend as much possible time with it. My guinea pig squeaks and runs up to me when I come to the cage and he is just as healthy and as happy as any other

Oml! This actually happened to me but I already had 2 hamsters. The doctor told me I was allergic to a few different things. Milk, hamsters, peanuts, etc. (I don’t understand why she said I’m allergic to milk, I drink milk mostly every day :/ ) but my dad said I couldn’t have my hamsters in my room anymore so he moved them to a different room. One day I went to check in on them, they both were dead :/. Tbh I honestly don’t know what was wrong with them but he wasn’t taking care of them, and all of that would’ve been avoided if he never took them out of my room. (Also, when my allergies start messing up my asthma will start acting up too I guess that’s why he took them out) And idk why I typed this paragraph, it really wasn’t needed

NO! Guinea pigs are not good for little kids at all. They bite, most don’t like being touched, they’re so prone to heart attacks. Plus, this video has insanely false information. Guinea pigs need at least 10 feet, not five or six, and they are so, so hard to care for and so expensive. They are a huge commitment, not for a kid who will forget to feed it or yell around it.
Hi, I'm getting a guinea pig soon, and I just want to know a few questions so if you know any of them, please try and answer. 1) Do they bite often? 2) How long does it take for them to get to trust You? 3) Do you *have* to buy two gineua pigs, or will it be okay if I buy one, but buy it a few toys? 4) Are they very friendly? 5) Can they learn their name?
We currently have 2 guinea pigs and I must say they are the most loving and social cuties. They respond more on a personal level similar to dogs and cats. I've had hamsters in the past which were very friendly and social also. Guinea pigs are definitely more costly. I think I'm on team guinea pig and hamsters! Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful video, great information! :) Also a lovely idea to compare the two, this will be very helpful for someone who is deciding on which pet to get. I personally prefer hamsters over guinea pigs. Mainly because I found guinea pigs weren't the right pet for me, I didn't have the best experience with them when I was much younger but they were still very cute and had character. With hamsters I never had a problem, I just wish they would live longer. Loved the video!

I considered a pet rodent and watched many RU-vid videos about their care. I was a kid in the 1970s, and It’s great to see how most people care for their pet rodents now. Such a pleasant change from metal chicken wire bottoms. In choosing which species of pet rodent I wanted, I narrowed it down to rats or Guinea pigs. I’m left at a standstill now and can’t decide. Rats are more intelligent and affectionate like a dog but can’t be kept in an open enclosure like how Guinea pigs can be kept in. Rats are so intelligent, but so much so that they are great escape artists. Also, Rats only live for about two years and that seems a tad too short, especially since they need to be kept in groups, and when introducing new Guinea pigs to replace one that has past away, if you want a baby or younger Guinea pig, you need to introduce two of them together so they will have a companion in their same age group while adjusting to being included to a new home with older piggies. So even though they have short life spans, keeping them as a group turns into an almost endless cycle of commitment. Guinea pigs on the other hand can be kept in an a more open enclosure, and live longer (3-4 years), but seem skittish and like little mindless eating machines. I can’t decide because I want my favorite parts of both rats and Guinea pigs rolled into one but the aspects I like about one, the other doesn’t have. Until I decide, I’ll just keep watching more meat RU-vid videos.
I had a Vet tell me a couple of things, she said if people knew more about guinea pigs they probably wouldn't get a hamster, the guinea pig is a much better pet, and that hamsters can be 'nippy' while guinea pigs almost never bite, this is what I was told I don't have enough personal experience to say.
As it goes with personality,guinea pigs are more atached to you than hamsters,but both hamsters and guinea pigs get atached to you. Not all hamsters bite and not all guinea pigs are 'none bitters'. It completely depends on their character and personality.
I had 2 dwarf hamster brothers years ago the man in the pet shop recommended to take both of them but ended up having to split them up as they were constantly fighting
I absolutely love Guinea pigs but, I would have to go with team hamsters. I have no hatred with guinea pigs. When I am older I will defiantly be owning a hamster though. Have a nice day 👍🏻
1:44 those cages aren't good enough for hamsters. Hamsters need 450 square inches of floor space or more, and at minimum of 5 - 6 inches of bedding. At 2:07 she says they would need about 100cm cage
You say guinea pigs are easy to pick up, mine aren’t one bites me when I try and pick him up and my other just runs from me and when I DO get him in my hands he just copy’s his brother; biting me I’ve had them for 1 year now :)
Nat what is the best place to bye a hamster I have had 3 hamsters and the 1st died last month she lived a month then it got 2 and one just died and I have had it for a month so I don't want to get anymore hamsters for that pet store
If you can find a registered breeder then that's always a good place to find a healthy young ham :) if not from a rescue & you could give a ham another chance :) x

Here are my opinions on Guinea pigs and hamsters (sorry if it sounds mean this is just my opinion) Guinea pigs: Cuteness: 4/10 ~reason: idk maybe cuz their size, or their eyes? Probably cuz the way their face is shaped, idk. Just don't look quite nice.😐 🐹 Hamsters: Cuteness: 11/10 ~reason: they're soo tiny and adorable! Their eyes are so big and when I see one my heart always melts😊❤❤❤(plus I have 2 hamsters)

Not nessasary. I got a dwarf hamster for my 14th birthday and she lived till after my 19th birthday. It's a real rarity and I've never heard of another hamster living over 3 4 yrs but Willa lived to be 5 1/2 yrs old

Would it be ok if I take a pet store guinea pig cage then put a dog run next to it so during the day she has access to the dog run to play and run around then during the night I shut her up in the cage?

Chinchilla are like 200 dollars in America. So they are probably expensive for you at your pet store. Plus they are hard to take care of. Since they grow these teeth behind their actual teeth that you need to trim at a vet(or what I heard)

I would recommend only when they absolutely need it. Baths dry out guinea pigs skin, and they are pretty much self cleaning animals, so I would say only give short haired ones baths if they are ridiculously filthy
