"The Iago Factor
Hamza Yusuf delivers a riveting talk on the concept of evil as personified by the character Iago in Shakespeare's Othello. Shakespeare's plays are best known for showing the complexities of human nature and the struggles we face in the spectrum of good and evil. Othello reveals the harrowing struggle of the title character, a Moorish general in the Venetian army, as he succumbs to the deceptions of his ensign, Iago, whose sinister plot is to falsely present the good and pure (represented by the character Desdemona, wife of Othello) as evil and wicked. Othello then engages in a heinous act. The tragic reality of his error in judgment is a stark reminder for each of us to not fall into the trap of our own inner Iago."

Alhamdulillah! I feel so blessed to live in an era where an ordinary person like me can listen to such an erudite scholar as Sheikh Hamza Yusuf via Internet. May Allah preserve Sheikh Hamza Yusuf, increase his knowledge, protect him from all evil and grant him His Friendship and highest Jannah! Ameen!

Religion ,literature and history have never been fused and interpreted so precisely,comprehensively and knowledgeably in the modern context.Shykh Hamza Yusuf is simply a matchless scholar and spokesman of Islam in the West.

He claims he was converted to Islam...after attending a production of A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream? Um, so he adopted a form of religious fiction by seeing an intentionally fictional and unrelated one. Good speaker nonetheless
@HMMK119

What do you mean he claims, isn’t he a Muslim and what is the base of your claim. What form of religious fiction he adopted. He is a Sunni Muslim and he is quoted the great scholars of Islam he isn’t painting any strange religion, this is Islam my brother!!

I guess the doubt is connected with the weird trigger, not whether HY is a Muslim. The Prince who brought Christianity to Russia did so, apparently, because he found the Byzantine churches beautiful. Also strange, but not as strange as if he had done so coz he read an amazing Arabic poet

no he's talking about his conversion journey to islam. he didn't convert due to the play. the play was a reminder for him to not lie to himself.

I had adored and admired the western civilization for a long time before i realized another civilization. then realized that the western civilization was just a tiny part of this new one that i witnessed. It is actually the civilization of God the Almighty. So i disbelieved in the old one and came to fully believe in the new one.

Daniel 7:13 is also a very important verse, and one of my favorites. In this verse we find the title "Son of Man", not as a way of humanity, but deity: "I saw in the night visions, and behold, there came with the clouds of heaven one like a son of man, and dirigiu- to the Ancient of days, and they did get to him. " Two figures are presented in this vision, the Ancient of Days and the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven, or the Shekinah glory of heaven. Whoever the Son of Man, He is Divine. In fact, it is so brilliant in glory, shining on Himself as the clouds of heaven. Compact divine brightness of clouds of glory illustrate before the Ancient of Days, when the Son of man enters the Divine Court and the books of judgment are opened. As we shall see, the favorite name of Jesus Himself is this title, Son of Man. He certainly knows who is the divine Son of man, who shares the glory of God. In fact, it shines with the brightness of the glory of God. In Micah 5: 2 we find the Messiah's birth site prophecy. But it not only marks the birth place of Christ's humanity, but also marks the dual nature of the One who will be born is eternal: "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, out of you will come for me be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from the days of eternity. " Messiah's days are of 'eternity'. The Messiah are assigned incommunicado divine attributes - as eternity or the nature of what is eternal. Only God is eternal and yet we see that the Messiah is considered eternal. Zechariah 13: 7 also refers to the Messiah with divine title of God Almighty. When Christ was in the garden with His disciples and was arrested, he fulfilled the prophecy that the shepherd was injured and the sheep will scatter, "O sword, awake thee against my shepherd, and against the man who is my fellow says the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and spread will be the sheep;. I will turn my hand upon the little ones. " The key here is "turn my hand upon the little ones." The Lord is speaking of Himself. He is the shepherd who will extend his hand on the small [Jewish brothers] and join them to bring them back. He is the Messiah and also the Lord.

stanley stanley He is a Man.. Stop worshipping a Man God.. Let Jesus guide you to Allah.. your scripts have been mixed with Blasphemy. ALLAH is Absolute and Eternal Your Father Son and Spirit are nothing.. but a myth of the Hindu scriptures.. Islam is simple.. its for Everyone. Your understanding of the Texts u quoted in that essay are interpretation that are way off. Stop trolling Islamic Lectures on RU-vid.. May Jesus guide you to the Way the Truth and Light. That is the Islamic "Trinity"

This has nothing to do with Shakespeare. Shakespeare never discussed it slam as he discusses Judaism in the merchant of Venice. It could be many reasons for this; moreover, many things are not clarified in Shakespeare's such as the identity of many of the characters being male or female, the role of Islam in medieval Europe, the role of Judaism in mid evil Europe.

+thad dani It has everything to do with Islam, especially that Muslims were in Italy at the time of Shakespeare, and Venice, an Italian city, was represented in Shakespeare play with the Moore. Please listen to entire video before such response, and also recommended that you read the plays as well. Please to refrain *smiles =)
