This Niya bow shape is based on the ancient han dynasty bows used in Northestern China. Such bow shapes were common as military bows and crossbow prods. Variety of ethnic groups used this bow such as xianbei, xiongnu, sogdian, Persians, Han, etc. However, the m shape bow is as early as 4000 years ago from Bronze Age China.
The Chinese fiberglass reproduction is called New Han Bow by AF Archery
afarchery.com/...
"Han to Jin (3rd Century BC to 5th Century AD) Excavated from Tomb No. 30 at Yingpan, Yuli County in 1995.) In the collection of the Archaeology Institute of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region." Two bows were featured in the exhibition. Both dated from the late Han/Jin period (about 200-300AD). One of the bows, although probably very interesting, had not been removed from its quiver, so there was no way to examine it. The other, however, was out of its quiver and so well preserved that the original gut string was still in position, although the limbs have been warped.
Bow: Length: 130 cm. Width: 0.6 cm - 3.2 cm. Thickness: 0.6 cm - 4.6 cm. Arrow: Length: 73.5 cm.

These are not Bow reviews. I use these modern reproductions to talk about the historical designs instead of using 2000$ hornbows which would be financially impossible to run this channel. Another common misconception is that people think Niya bows are very wide limbs shown on google but the original Niya bow based on ATARN is maximum 3.2 cm wide. People are confusing with the jin dynasty Khotan bow.

Hey! Love your channel! Can you tell me what is the brace height and length of this AF archery bow with string? This bow is gorgeous, very similar to early mongolian empire bows, with long and more straight siyahs,
@EdibleOutdoors

With a 48-inch (122 cm) string, the brace height should be 6.5 inches (16.5 cm). Other info you can find on their website or eBay.

China could have invented composite bows. The sumerians had the first artwork of composite looking bows as shown by jack due to its shorter length and later resemblance of Assyrian bows that we know are hornbows. And 10000 years before we had m shape bows from ancient Arabia (though that artwork likely depicts a wood bow) That 4000 year old bone script is the shape of future mongol style bows but it could of been steam bent bamboo shape instead of

We have no evidence the Chinese invented composite bows. In fact it is more likely the sumerians that invented composite horn bows or even earlier.

Are u talking about the bone oracle script from shang dynasty? We have no evidence that is a Hornbow. It is a script on a piece of bone depicting the meaning of bow. It could be m shape bamboo 😊

I have that style of bow. I have two of them actually. But I got it off Amazon. Now idk where it actually comes from but when I had gotten it They said that the style comes from Mongolia but idk if that's true but the bows itself is fantastic now. I don't know if that is correct or not it's it comes from Mongolia They also said The Mongols used to use this style, though now I remember the Great Wall of China was to prevent the Mongol raids from happening. That is what I was taught in school pretty awesome loves your videos man 😊
@AnkunFang
@AnkunFang 5 месяцев назад
We don’t know exactly where it originated but it is for sure not 13th century Mongolia because we have archeological finds like this one around 200AD. And prior to this we have 2000 BC artwork depicting very similar bows in the Shang dynasty on bone oracles. This m shape is not seen in Sumerian/babylonian artwork however. So if I had to guess it originated from central Asian around 4000 years ago but the ancient Shang peoples also recorded them in a bone script at the same time
