Part 2 of 2. In part two I create the seat, make the stool comfortable, and add layers and layers of finish. Made from maple and poplar, this stool is sized to be comfortable while chopping waste and to store under the bench top when it is not in use.
Future Eric reports that the stool is working well in the shop.

The cracked milk paint is a very cool looking finish, especially on the textured side aprons. Good work as always

Thank you! It is one of my favorite finishes. It takes a while to do, but I think it is worth it.

I really like your aesthetic. Very cool looking crackle finish. And I noticed the carved trim around your shop window. Awesome!

I wonder if making the saddle would be easier had the grain run from back to front instead of left to right. Thoughts?

I do not know enough about chairs to definitely say why it should be done one way rather than the other. I oriented the grain like you would on a windsor chair.

@@EricMeyerMaker hmm. I made this comment because it seemed you were having some difficulty making the saddle. I know less about chair making than you. 🙂

A scorp would have done wonders in this situation. The compass plane I was using is more of a refining tool than a heavy stock removal tool.
