Heres a quick demonstration on how I hand dye some of my yarn. Hope you enjoy. If you choose to follow my tutorial then pleas upload your pictures on instagram and tag me as ThisBoy
EXCELLENT! Thank you for sharing this! I can’t always find the colors I envision for a project, so I decided I needed to learn the process of making the colors in my mind come to life. I especially love that you’ve debunked the myth of not wearing a mask during a tutorial. I can hear you loud and clear with it on! Nearly every acid dye tutorial I’ve watched, the Dyer forgoes a face mask, claiming we wouldn’t be able to hear them speak. Also, I love that your dog is protesting not being allowed to help you 😂 I’ve only dyed once so far & my Pugs went crazy when they couldn’t be right by my side. They’re my best friends, so I contain them to a separate room to protect their little lungs.
Great video! Thanks for sharing! Also if you don't have a spin dryer, perhaps you can use a salad spinner to do the job. That's what I use since I only dye a few skeins at a time
Great video. I think I'm doing something wrong though. My yarn seems to be sucking out the dye from the mixture before I have finished dying leaving it very wet and semi dyed. Any idea what it could be?
Have a question mate ? If I am doing screen printing on a silk fabric using acid dyes. Do you think I can immerse the fabric in hot water along with vinegar or citric acid to fix the design ? Do you think the dye will run off or would have absorbed some on to the fiber. Also should I dry the screen printed fabric first and then do a final wash with vinegar or the other way around ?
i agree with that lady. Its to do with the type of fibre that you are using. Cotton is cellulose based and therefor unable to take u the acid dyes. I think some of the dye might stick to the outside of the cotton but it wouldn't stay there long. xxx
Thank you. I am glad I did not buy the acid dye now. I do have a lot of cotton I want to learn to dye. You and your partner keep up the good work. And I don't want to leave out your little dog...
