I started my plastering apprenticeship 52 years ago. My boss didn’t even own a mixer. I would have to mix the render with a shovel and of course all the internal brick walls were floated . How times have changed. But I’m retired now but I’m still interested in new developments in the building industry. 👍👍

Alex if you got caught out doing external rendering top coat where it's started to go off before you have had chance to float it up. What would you do?
@Yamaha.ha.ha.ha.
@Yamaha.ha.ha.ha. 10 месяцев назад
Yes they are worth the money. I used to dred the rub up. The sitting around and all of it. Power float almost immediately on a big hit. Wish i had got the battery one as lead is a pain in the arse. But couldnt justify the extra.

Hey Alex, love the videos, any chance you could do a indepth vid on ruling off render?
@AlexMorleyPlastering
@AlexMorleyPlastering 3 года назад
Yes that’s the plan. We meant to on the latest job but the wall was a bit complicated to show how to rule off properly. We are rendering a new house in September. That’s when we will do the video.

Hi Alex, really enjoying the content. Might have to invest in one of these. We do tonnes of rendering every year and its really hard going, especially when it's really hot. These look like they take a lot of the hard work out if it, and anything that makes my life easier these days I'm all for. Out if interest, are you putting water proofer in your scratch coat? That looks like it's staying nice and wet for you. Also what are your thoughts on plastic beads instead if stainless steel?
@AlexMorleyPlastering
@AlexMorleyPlastering 3 года назад
Thanks for the comment. Glad your enjoying the videos. The feedback is much appreciated. Regards the powerfloat, if you do a lot in the summer it’s a no brainier. At very least to reduce strain. If you buy a leader version they are a lot cheaper. Regards the waterproofer, yes we use FebProof Plus with SBR. For us that’s the best WP by a long way. Keeps the render wet for hours. Enables us to put huge sections on when we need to. We then our Rendamix in the top. As far as beads go, generally we only use plastic as we are on the coast. SS are a bit pricey IMO, and the galvanised ones are junk. Saying that metal bell casts tend to be a bit better. But not enough for us to swap over from plastic.

Defo thinking of getting one, just deciding to go battery or lead . I believe the lead one is lighter, is this true ? Great vid

Could you advise on which discs to get also , think it comes with a medium disc , do they do a finer disc or do you touch up with the hand sponge ?
@AlexMorleyPlastering
@AlexMorleyPlastering 3 года назад
I believe so, though you do get used to the heavier weight very quickly. It comes with 2 floats. A standard diamond and a sponge float. Both ideal for S&C. Not too sure on the others the.

Quick question, How long does it take to become proficient on the machine would U start off floating garden wall's/small hits, for learning, not much time on outside, but know the rope's, Any more vid's on Power floating would be appreciated 💪🖖👍
@AlexMorleyPlastering
@AlexMorleyPlastering 3 года назад
Tbh, it’s a little bit of trial and error. When you first buy it, it’s easier to use when the render is wet, but you get better result when it’s pulled in a lot more. We have used it for about 50 hours. 6-7 houses, and about got the measure of it.

U mentioned diamond floats considering getting one do u recommend them
@AlexMorleyPlastering
@AlexMorleyPlastering 3 года назад
They are ok. Especially if you struggle to get the wall really flat with a straight edge. However the smaller polythene 12” floats are better for compressing the render which reduces cracking. Also the diamond floats leave a slightly aggressive scratched look, which I’m not a fan of. But that aside they are probably second best floats on the market behind the Emir Polythene Float

Hi Alex great vid would u say that the powefloat is good enough finish to just sponge after. Or would u use a hand float as well just to tickle after powerfloat??
@AlexMorleyPlastering
@AlexMorleyPlastering 3 года назад
It’s fine to finish with it. I personally find it a little scratchy, I prefer a very Sandy fine finish. This is just preference

They do have a scratch plate. I don’t think I would use it though. It would probably be too aggressive for colour render.

If you're doing a short wall with angle beads on the top and side, with a bell cast on the bottom, would you still flatten in both directions or just rail off of the beads?
