Hand-raising a Baby White-cheeked Gibbon at Perth Zoo

A male White-cheeked Gibbon was born at Perth Zoo on 17 April 2011. His mother wasn't able to care for his at the start of his life so keepers are looking after him until he can be safely returned to her and the rest of the gibbon family.
Perth Zoo is part of a regional breeding program for this critically endangered species.

I don't want to be mean here, I know other people and its mother thinks their babies are cute but I think Gibbon primates are the homeliest babies of all primates. So why would anyone want one as a pet is beyond me.

Gibbons are pretty friendly towards humans so long as you don’t scare them or mistreat them. Unlike chimps who are unpredictable and can kill you, gibbons see humans as living playgrounds
