That's what happens when some people are given power. It goes to their head. That cop that arrested him should be suspended without pay for 30 days to teach him that lives come first. Maybe the law was technically violated, but justice was served. And that's the very reason for the law; to see that justice is done. Sometimes the letter of the law will result in injustice. In those cases, I say "The law is an ass, an idiot." I'm more concerned with the spirit of the law than the actual letter.

Even though his order WAS technically carried out almost immediately by someone else, he didn't care! I rushed to the window and saw a pickup truck all smashed up and on its side down by the road. Our house was about 200 feet from the road and the truck was resting on our land . There was a light down by the road ( it was around 11 pm ) and I saw someone slowly drag themselves out of the truck. I rushed to get dressed and ran toward the truck just as a OPP ( Ontario provincial police ) car pulled up . A couple of other neighbors had come to the scene as well but as soon as the cop got out of the car he began yelling ( almost screaming ) at us to "GET THE HELL BACK !!! " Everyone was speechless at how insane the cop was acting . I tried to approach him to tell him what I saw but before I could get 2 words out of my mouth he flipped his wig and screamed " DIDN'T YOU HEAR WHAT I SAID , OR ARE YOU JUST FUCKING STUPID !" I backed off fast . OMG ! The cop radioed for "backup " and then continued to berate the bystanders. Then our neighbor " Dennis " came down his lane . The cop tried to intimidate him but Dennis ( who was an ex cop ) was having none of it and yelled at the cop " DID YOU EVEN CHECK IN THE GOD DAMD TRUCK YOU STUPID ROOKIE !? ". At this the cop sheepishly crawled up and looked down into the truck ( you couldn't see through the windshield as it was badly damaged and facing away from the street lamp ). I went to Dennis and told him what I saw to which Dennis asked me if I told the cop this . I told him what the cop did when I tried and Dennis turned beet red in the face and proceeded to let into the cop as he walked in the direction of where I told him the passenger crawled. About 15 minutes had passed since the crash had occurred . Dennis later told me they found him about 100 feet into a corn field with a crushed larynx . That wasted 15 minutes could have been used to save the man's life with an emergency tracheotomy OR by just trying to keep his airway opened , but no... THE COP HAD TO THROW HIS WEIGHT AROUND. Show us who was BOSS . And a young man is dead today because of it . Since then I have seen and heard of many other instances of this sort of incompetence and abuse of power , especially since I moved to the town of Renfrew Ontario. This place is a hell hold for good law abiding people due to the police . SHAME on all those entrusted with the safety of others who abuse their power ! Now , you police officers who read this … I await your threats and insults .

BUT, you can also be charged if you witness someone who is injured and not help them. So there is a very fine line. However, this case does not fall into either of those categories. When first responders come on the scene the good Samaritan is supposed to yield to the first responders. Sadly, the first responder didn't handle situation as well as the good Samaritan, by putting life above procedure.

I am quite familiar with Narcists like this cop, and I can say with some degree of confidence that the retired fire chief was arrested because he used the word "No!" Nothing sets these mentally deranged people off more than having someone stand up and say no to a demand they have made. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the only thing preventing the cop from physically pushing the chief away from the patient was the cameras and witnesses...

The actual charge was "Contempt of Cop"...as such, I SHOULD BE ARRESTED TOO; I hold that cop in the deepest contempt! I'd love to know the outcome of the trial. That the DA okayed the charge, shows abject ignorance, and the cold-hearted nature of that jurisdiction. The cop's actions were despicable and ill-founded...the retired firefighter, Mr. Rickerson, heroic and praiseworthy. God bless him. Please, if anyone has an update, let me know.
