Thank you so much! I've moved to the middle of nowhere (almost) - my nearest Handy Quilter dealer is either 5 hours or 4 1/2 hours away. I think I had the spring in upside down!

You are not alone! It creates erratic tension and can be very frustrating to work out what is going wrong...

Thank you so much for the info on the bobbin spring. Mine kept falling out and I was struggling with get it to back in properly. Something so simple can cause big frustrations.

It's one of those things that can really make a difference and having the confidence to know what to do is all it takes.

Is there a special brand of spring that is better than other brands for the handi quilter?

This is quite a specialist part, so it is likelk that it is only produced by the original manufacturer. So there probably isn't a choice of brand. Get the official Handi Quilter replacement from your dealer.

My Bobbin case spring was missing and I didn’t notice it. Could that have been why I would have skipped stitches?

Debra, yes that's quite possible. But there are lots of other possible causes of skipped stitches too. Replace the spring if you haven't already done so.

When do you know to replace the backlash spring? Do they wear out?

If they are distorted and can't be persuaded back into shape we would recommend replacing it. If it is falling out regularly or you are having stitching issues that you suspect are due to the back lash spring.
