Did you use all hard solder on this? or did you use any medium or easy? I'm actually trying a similar technique of making the undercarriage of the ring and I'm having some trouble with pits and seams forming. Much respect to you though, you have obviously been doing this a very long time. I really hope I can be that good someday.
@@scaffoal I am impressed with your English, so that is OK! In many of your videos you cut a wide band down, In this video, it happens around 5 minutes into the video. Do you have suggestions for making that cut with your jewelers saw blade? I struggle to do that on a curve. Hopefully, that helps explain. Thank You again.

Si è un manipolo martellatore. Il faro è sicuramente ottimo e affidabile io ne ho uno che uso da molti anni. Ultimamente ne ho acquistato uno alla Legor Grup di Vicenza ex FOV di cui non ricordo la marca e che costa decisamente meno ma che svolge un ottimo lavoro (sicuramente dalle foto su internet non è il Foredom) .
grazie per avermi risposto. virrei acquistarne uno ma sono indeciso. ve n'è un altro tipo che invece è sensitivo (parte appena lo appoggi e puoi dosare la forza) negli USA costicchia intorno ai-400-500, mentre acquistarlo quinon avrebbe senso perchè il prezzo levita fino a sfiorare il migliaio di €....si chiama Magna Graver e può montare anche dei bulini (ovviamente modificati) comunque ti faccio i miei complimenti....io sonio sei anni che lo faccio per hobby e i tuoi video mi aiutano molto. Io personalmente non ho mai provato il mandrino di cui mi parli ma per le mie abitudini non lo acquisterei perché a volte ho bisogno di avvicinarmi più o meno al metallo senza toccarlo per potere dosare la potenza non solo col regolatore. Ti consiglio di cercare di provarne almeno un tipo prima di acquistare.

Two questions please. There was a waxy substance being melted and forced up into the underside of the ring. What does this do? Second, it didn't look like the setting was compressed to hold the emerald in, was there some adhesive or cement?
The wax substance is used to hold the ring in place while the setting is being finished and the stone is being set. And the setting was compressed to hold the stone; the raised edges of the setting were filed and then compacted against the stone with an automatic impacting tool at 20:00 until 20:30, as far as I can tell.
Thanks. Depends on the quality of the emerald, the gems that often use are owned by customers. A ring like that of the video costs about 700 euro (gold and manufacturing), plus the emerald.
How much does it cost to have this done? I have a 12.6 g and another of unknown weight (probably slightly smaller), along with 2 earring scrap 14K for my base setting. I would like a 5.45ct. oval opal that I want placed in a similar setting. I have no clue a to how much it will cost me to have one made for me.
+Shawn Bruce The opal is not a suitable stone for a ring like this, the opal is very delicate. The ring without the stone center costs about 700/800 Euros (gold and invoice)
Wow must say im very impressed with the handcrafts you posses and what a beautiful peace of art! What is the benefit for the use of this method contra making the peace in other material and then casting it in gold? Please bare with me I do to the fullest appreciate you skills :)
TQ Al Today I repaired a ring made of casting, she was cracked in four places. In a ring made of sheets rolled this does not happen. One of the many reasons ....

Just like a modern hammerd rifle barrel contra the old castes canons :) thank you again and again. It's so inspiring to se handcraftment like this! I can watch it over and over again. And I have decided to try out this method with some scratch silver I have lying. :)

+scaffoal I actually want to get into this, I really do. I know where to buy everything, including cultured pearls, and even loose precious gemstones. How pure is the gold you're working with, and what gauge of gold sheet you're working with, if you don't mind. I see on RioGrande that 18K, 18ga, (1.02mm) is currently $306 for a 1" x 1" piece.. I could go with silver, but I'm drawn to gold because it's so expensive, and people tend to like gold more because it's more of a precious metal than silver. Really nice work btw, I really like how you made that ring, it's really nice, thanks so much for Sharing with us your goldsmithing skills. (+1 : 521)
I thought after when I see the finish product, same gold tone color every part, no soldering line or anything else :"D I'm dumb ! I do the same thing at hobbi, from copper, wood, sometimes silver and your working method really helpfull for me ! I really like to watch your videos, to see every tiny detail what you do.
