I am a starting Goldsmith. I have made a ring similar to this (2 rings 18kt. yellow gold on the outsides and 18kt ring white gold on the inside) a while back. Now I don't have much experience with repair but a family member of mine is soon getting married and would like to give them this ring. Problem is I need to downsize it, any tips on how to properly do that? What solder should I pick to resolder this? Or do I need to take them apart en resolder each and every one of them? I mean I'm afraid you'll see the difference in colour if I do it in one go. Thanks in advance . I appreciate any advice that can be given! Very nice video.
When you are soldering the three rings together, I wouldn't have thought the vernier calipers would be able to withstand the temperatures like that? Is it okay to do that at your average soldering temperature with a standard set of calipers or are you using a particular technique to do this? Beautiful ring by the way!

It doesn't look like you used a lot of solder to keep the three rings together....what did you use to glue them together before you did the second part of the soldering? Beautiful ring by the way!
Thank you. Normally I use a solder to high-melting point , these welds are struggling more to flow, but guarantee the stability of the jewel during further welding.
hi, that is a great ring, one question, what is that spiral you use when you solder? is it for giving it more air so it warms up faster? what is the metal made of? and one other question, in another video of yours you used a stick of soldering that it melted easily without cutting it into small pieces, just touching the ring with fire it melted where you wanted!! what is that? whats the name for that stick? where did you find it? thank you very much, great work!!!
The spiral I use for welding is a table clock spring, its function is to not absorb heat, and allows the object to be welded to heat up evenly. The silver welds can be found both in plate and in thread, the one I used is a tender welding in thin wire.
How much would a ring like this run? I'm an avid gold and silver jewelry buyer and this ring is something I'd find myself wearing everyday if I had it. Although 18k may be too soft for everyday wear for me, what would this ring in 14k cost?
