i quit being a machinist to come do standing seam and its a big sigh of relief to see you eyeball 3/8s i spend too much time measuring to 1/16th or better

like i tell me guys, there are times when to turn it on and when to turn it off...meaning i have developed an eye for when to be exact and when to let loose...comes with experience i guess...thanks for watching...ive seen you in the comments quite afew times

Love seeing the copper work. Work with a medium size company that installs a lot of pre-fab systems (acm, s-lock panels, fiber cement, etc). Always have looked at copper being the endgame for cladding skill. It truly is an art 👍.

Love it!! Quick question, when doing that pocket fold, I’ve seen lots of people talk about bisecting the angle. But what it looks to me like you had a feel for it. You mentioned you used your needle nose pliers to adjust it. Is it unnecessary to bisect the angle and do all that stuff I see on RU-vid?

I like doing it like this. Bisecting is good too. But I believe this is why the pocket former was invented. Having done this for a bit now I can visualize a little bit better and I find myself twisting things up and getting them dialed in and squeezed in place and it’s really helped increase my speed while still maintaining the quality. I will say though having done bisecting for an awhile it really helped me develop my 3d thinking if that makes sense. It helped me understand which direction the folds are to go in to get the metal to do what I need it to

Can you do this double fold with 24 gauge steel? Seems like that many layers with the pocket fold would be tough

ive done it but using the blind sweep approach where you dog ear behind the chimney and have a single layer of metal to turn over as a result

@613kc copper isn't measured in gage where I'm from...16 ounce is the lightest you should go in roofing

Hi, just fishin for help. May I ask if you'd assume a standing seam copper porch roof about 30 years old could be removed and reused? (not on a house roof) Maybe for a shed, projects, etc? No idea what i'm doing with copper, but i'm smitten with copper since i started putting some copper on the chimney tops I work on. No idea yet how the bonded the seams.

Yes absolutely... Copper's reusability is very high... As it takes quite abit for it to stress crack from being unbent and rebent... Unlike aluminum where you can only bend it back and forth twice before it cracks
