I’ve been an Omega fan for years now. I have several vintage pieces and of course also the “real” Speedy. This MoonSwatch is not supposed to be luxury. As far as I can tell, the only people getting bitter with it are the people that buy a watch as a status symbol and not for the passion of collecting time pieces. It’s a genius marketing move. Giving young horology enthusiasts a starting point. This inevitably will put Omega in peoples minds who maybe never even considered this brand for a luxury time piece. Omega flipped Rolex the biggest of birds with this. I love Rolex as well, but their scarcity game is very off putting and frustrating. This one will definitely become part of my collection once it’s available online.
for me the MoonSwatch enabled something that i haven´t dared with my original Moonwatch: i really love the design and would like to daily drive the watch, but - even though i work mostly in the office - i sometimes have to go on construction sites, where it is possible that my watch gets damaged. Also leaving it in the office is no option because offices are open and a lot of contractors go in and out (money, rings etc. already disappeared from co-workers). That´s where the moonSwatch comes into play: i can daily drive the MoonSwatch as subsitute for the Moonwatch. it´s much easier to swallow if a 250$ watch might get damaged instead of my 5000$ watch...
Well, as far as "Omega flipping Rolex the bird", hah! Wrong! Getting a Swatch MoonSwatch is actually harder to get than the actual Omega Moonwatch. Swatch even lied about a lot of things. First, they said people can but 2 per person on first release, but on the actual day it became 1 per person. Second, Swatch said plenty will be made available online, now on their instagram feeds, Swatch says the MoonSwatch will now only be made available in SELECT Swatch stores (not all Swatch Stores, just some select ones). Third, Swatch said that it is not a limited release and will be made available for everyone, now, according to the latest news, the MoonSwatch will only be made available up to the end of the year (2022).....Wow. That's showing Rolex. Hahaha! Making a Swatch a trade bait for flippers? Yeah...Rolex will be so proud.
02:15 MISSION TO SUN(yellow) 02:26 MISSION TO MERCURY(gray) 02:37 MISSION TO VENUS(pink) 02:58 MISSION TO EARTH(green) 03:17 MISSION TO MARS (red) 03:36 MISSION TO JUPITER(brown) 03:50 MISSION TO SATURN(beige) 04:18 MISSION TO PLUTO(reddish) 04:39 MISSION TO NEPTUNE(blue) 05:00 MISSION TO URANUS(light blue) 05:19 MISSION TO MOON(black)
I happily and excitedly picked up a Mission to Mars at the King of Prussia Mall in King of Prussia, PA just on ghe outskirts of Philly. I am pumped just to have it on my wrist as I have seen them being sold at ridiculous prices on Ebay and scalpers making out incredibly! I got raves at work by people asking me what is that? When they saw Omega and Swatch had collaborated , they were blown away! I absolutely Love this time piece! Blessed to have one! 🙏🏻❤️
I like the the Mission to the Moon because of its similarity to the original Moon Watch. But any of the color choices would be pleasing to own. Omega needs to come out with the collector’s set featuring all 11 colors.
This is why I got a bulova lunar pilot watch, the ties to history are good and it’s much cheaper, i paid 275 plus taxes for mine and it’s put together much better than these
I hope they don’t just limit this collaboration to the Moonwatch, this could be just the start of something of bigger future collabs. They could venture to expanding the concept to the Seamaster Omega x Swatch collab too: there are 31 varieties of the Sea theme for them to think about (e.g., Atlantic, Mediterranean, Red, Baltic, Arabian, South China, Celebes, etc). Another one is Railmaster collab series: the likes of Amtrak, British, Eurostar, Trenitalia, Oriental Express, SBB, etc). Better yet, the Constellation collab series would do great with so many possible variants.
Kinda defeats the fun a little bit, if they were super super easy to get, but can see both sides. I don't mind the boutique only approach, but that's partly because there are boutiques in Melbourne.
I agree with you, Preeyen. I'm also looking to get one online. However, Swatch has been relatively quiet since it's initial release. The longer they remain silent on availabilty, the more I'm likely to allocate my fund to a more legitimate timepiece rather to just a "fun" one.
You wouldn't mind making the trip if you knew that there was stock available, but I've made several trips to London only to queue up and be disappointed. By the time I factor in my travel, parking, tube and eating in London, the additional costs take the 'fun' out of it. It's almost cheaper to buy from the scalpers online.
I'm a personal owner of a official Omega Speedmaster, I love it. I recently tried the Swatch collaboration with the Omega Speedmaster and bought the Mission to Pluto Swatch. It looks closest to my real one. The Swatch one feels very lightweight compared to the real one. The style and looks or a 7/10. If you're a young adult this is for you. I can also recommend this to a watch collector because they are rare to find. Neptune looks real cool but is the rarest one. The rarest ones in order are Neptune, Mercury, Moon, Pluto, and Saturn.
I think they should already bring out of those selected areas towards the secondary markets like Manila, Wellington, Buenos Aires and Johannesburg. You have no idea how badly I want one
Picked up mission to earth today, for me it or Neptune are my favs, I own a speedy. Have to say the strap gets a lot of flack but so far I really like it, lume is decent on it too for price. Fun piece to have and wear, playful. Might pick up some in future for the kids as presents (save them for grad present or special occasion)
Funny the mighty execs at Rolex have not decided on a counter-move. Though we could take it as a sign that the apocalypse is upon us when a collab between Rolex and Timex will yield ---- GASP!!! , the ROMEX !!!🤪
Mission to Pluto and Saturn are by far my favorite designs, the only question I'm really asking myself is if I'm throwing my money away on a toy watch, or just save it and get another entry-level watch for the same price
These aren't toy watches. They are a nice place to start a collection and get people interested about swatch, omega, speedmaster, bioceramic and every thing around those pieces. And if you're concern about durability keep in mind that omega is a luxury brand, my guess is that they don't want their reputation to be damage on a cheap watch - they cut the cost down by using swatch materials and quartz instead of mechanical movements. At this price point, you can't go wrong IMO ! And I agree, pluto and saturn a freakin gorgeous !! I strongly hesitate between Mercury/Pluto/Saturn
I bought the mission to mercury. I was hoping it was going to have the “sweeping” second hand and not the ticking second hand (if that makes sense) what is that called I don’t know anything about watches
Here’s my ranking. 10/10 Moon. 9/10 Uranus, Mercury. 8/10 Neptune, Mars, Earth. 7/10 Jupiter. 6/10 Pluto, Sun. 5/10 Saturn. 4/10 Venus… I like them all apart from Saturn (poo brown strap) and Venus (waste of lovely powder pink case with a weird dial design.).. That said - what would I buy? Well I have a Pluto I wear daily (love it - even if other colours more appealing) and I have a Moon on the way (the icon.) Next up I would like a Mars (because of the historic design connection - also I think it will be fun to use as a running timer.) Hmm maybe I need that Uranus too…
Apparently, the plastic crystal is actually fused to the case and so cannot be replaced, and it can be scratched just by getting it out of the packaging - dreadful! You can polish it out with the right stuff, but why should you have to?
Exactly. Look, everybody and their cousin carries a phone now. We have the exact time available with little trouble. Watches are almost obsolete except for style. I’m not really sure why there is a market for cheap watches right now, it seems pointless. This collaboration is a head scratcher as well, great for swatch but is it really good for Omega? Imagine McDonalds selling a Ruth’s Chris burger.
Is all about Pluto for me, I even got a couple of straps already waiting for it, natos of course so I don't get my wrist stained... although I'm not sure it will be available in my country, is there a site you can go and check that? can't find it anywhere.
At the end of the day it is plastic with a cheap quartz movement. Swatch will release on-line once popularity fades which should be soon. Good video, however. Ty!
What if one day you end up getting the Speedmaster Professional. If you choose the mission to the moon, you’ll have two that look super alike. Why not go with a colorful one like Pluto or Jupiter and then you would have the Professional and the playful colorful Swatch :)
@@edelmar17 good idea but the reason im considering the mission to the moon is so that i know if the professional is the watch for me. I see it as a "demo" version of the watch and it would tell me if i would really like the professional or not. Another reason is that its a better strap monster than the other two. Its SO versatile and I like that about it. However i do agree with you and i also have my own reasons for considering the pluto and jupiter. Thank you for the suggestion!
Initially I wanted to buy all eleven and was really excited - now after hearing about the lousy quality and the unavailability game, I am not interested anymore. I won’t go for it anymore.
Mission to Venus.. very different from the rest... different font on the Tachymetre and only reading up to 400 rather than 500 like the rest of the collection.. No DON eventhough it's specified as having it in the description... maybe an undervalued collectable??
These watches with their easy to scratch glass are NOT changeable. They are laser fused into the casing. If you scratch them to the point of not able to buff out, throw away the watch and get a new one! They should bring out new variants of this series; mission to a black hole and mission to Hell.
Great idea, but is over priced, i just got myself an micro brand watch, full Stainless steel monoblock case seiko movement, sapphire cristal and ceramic bazel all less than this omega x swatch tag prize
overpriced for you, but judging by the extremely high demand most would disagree with you. I think the price is fine; you get the art of the luxury Speedmaster without the quality materials.
