Both phones are essentially the same, but one is running Android 6 and the other is running Android 7.
They also have different keypads.
In this video I attempt to show what you can expect to experience depending upon which version you buy.

Yes. I wrote to Samsung 3 times asking them to make an upgraded version. Eventually I got a reply suggesting I check out their current handsets! 🙄

Perhaps it'd be in your interest to look into Samsung's other flip phones such as the w2019 and g9298. I myself ordered a g9298 but it seems shipping will take quite some time

These phones are all too out of date now, and no one has the will to satisfy this side of the market, it seems. I contacted Samsung many times about an up to date flip phone on Android, but they don't believe there is a market for it. I've switched to Unihertz now (see my review of the Titan and the Titan Pocket).

Im sorry to ask but I had recently bought the one on the right, the chinese version but mine is not an android Version 7, its at 6.1?? How did you get a version 7?

@@OtterseaV2 it came preloaded with it. Both phones came with the 2 different operating systems, and they were no longer being supported, so couldn't be upgraded.

hey there, where did you get these?, i've been looking for one for a couple weeks now but i've only found sketchy listings on ebay and a few south asian sites that i don't trust with shipping

I bought them on ebay in the UK and subsequently sold one on there too. They don't come up that often though, as you say. I have bought phones (and other items too) from China, and not encountered problems with postage and delivery, other than a very long wait, but of the two phones I purchased (from the same seller) one was not working properly and had to be returned. I don't think I'd buy an expensive technical item from there again, so you're probably well advised to stay away. I'm thinking of selling my Folder 2 on ebay which, as it happens, will be a 2nd attempt...it didn't sell last time I advertised it.

That's a question without a simple answer. Some phones, when upgraded from 6 to 7 run more slowly than they did before the upgrade. Having said that, there is no noticeable difference, not that I noticed at least, with the Folder 2 on 6 or on 7.

To check which version of Android a phone is running on, look at the 'About Phone' folder in the settings menu (usually at the bottom of the settings menu). Then look for Android Version, or Software.

Hello ! I am really interested in purchasing the Hong Kong version, is it official Samsung right ? I also want to know if Android 7 is more upgraded than 6, ( I have been on iOS for ages, so I don’t know how Samsung or Android versions work, sorry. ) I’m looking to download apps like Discord and RU-vid on it, would they function properly on it ? Android 7 is a later version. RU-vid still works on it, as do messenger and WhatsApp. I've never used accord. Android 7 is pretty dated now though, so there are no more updates, and I imagine only a couple of year's more support by 3rd apps such as the ones I've listed. I've had three Chinese / Korean versions of the Folder 2, all typically Samsung loaded. I've now switched to the unihertz titan pocket.

I want to buy a flip phone with a full version of android as a second/work phone and just to make calls, whatsapp and music (my mp3 files) maybe a picture or youtube video here and there and the form factor is good to protect the screen and type with the physical buttons. Only found 2 so far the Samsung folder 2 and the LG Smart Folder the bad thing is that some come with android 6 and some with 7 but is good to know that the dual sim and keyboard is different, that way I can tell which is the android 7 version but sadly it does not have a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Do you remember if it is android 7.0 or 7.1 or something? I want it to last a couple of years at least to use it with whatsapp. The Lg one has a 3.5mm and comes with android 7.1.1 but the keyboard is made from rubber because they all are refurbished now a days, and the original one was similar to the samsung and that is a downside because the original was nice. The Lg is cheaper, the headphone jack and not gambling on the android version is nice but the keyboard... The Samsung is pretty nice looking and the keyboard is nice, but not having a headphone jack and kinda gambling on the version and being higher in price. Hmmm maybe the Lg is a better choice I don't know.

@@ser777XD sorry, I don't know which version of Android it had, though I'm not sure if the difference between 7.0 and 7.1 will make any difference now to the usability of WhatsApp. The Bluetooth connection to earphones and speakers with similar versions of Bluetooth worked fine.

@@markymarkgroovemaster Thanks, the Samsung is tempting but I think I will go with the Lg because is also cheaper for me and it has everything I need, the cheap paint in the Directional buttons is the thing I do not like from the keyboard but the rubber buttons are fine for me so it is mostly fine. Thanks for the info on the folder 2, hope they launch a new flip phone with more modern specs in the future! it would be really nice.

Yes you can, although yo need to bear in mind its age and there the standard of Bluetooth its running. Some newer/more up to date Bluetooth earphones/headsets/speakers may not connect.

hey mark , the keypad are not able to write an alphabet only numbers , any idea how to change the settings? the star button on the bottom left does not change the settings only a star sign would come out on the screen. Please help been on it for a few months.

On Android 7 you need to set the keyboard to US or UK English and delete the Chinese input. After this you can use the # key to toggle from letters to numbers, then to symbols, then 3rd press of # takes you back to letters.

Marky Mark its on android 6.1 , but the space bar is in the middle .i only use english US for the keyboard , and i still cant use the # key to toggle to alphabet. thank you for the reply , im having a hard time,

I don't know but I wouldn't recommend it because Android 7 is no longer supported, so there aren't any up to date security patches.

I'm seriously thinking about this phone because I want a flip/ physical keyboard phone which also supports Waze, Spotify, dual sim, has aux slot, decent camera and battery life (I also like that I can carry around a replacement battery) , and the NFC capacity would be a huge bonus (for Google Pay). After a lot of research this phone seems to fit the bill. What do you think? Anything better you could recommend? I would be getting from abroad and don't have a chance to try before I buy...

@@shevawittler5471 It doesn't have an aux/headphone slot. No one is making a phone like the one you have just described. I've written to Samsung more than once about this but they're just not interested in producing a new version of it.

@@shevawittler5471 I bought a Bluetooth adapter from Amazon. I connect the phone to the adapter and that gives me an aux out. I also have a 4 year old car stereo which reads the phone content from the charging port (a lot of car stereos, including bang up to date units do this). So it charges the phone while playing tunes in the SD card or from Spotify. The unit in my car also controls the phone, so I can skip back and forward using the car controls.

I doubt you can update it now. Someone with technical knowledge might be able to do it, but Samsung will no longer be supporting older operating systems, and therefore will not be updating their old phones/old operating systems.

As addictions go however, it hasn't been costly because over here it's possible to buy and sell quite easily. Sometimes I make a little money sometimes I lose a little, so it pans out ok. I used then both with Giffgaff (which is o2) and Voxi (which is Vodafone) and they work fine. Signal pick up was very good on the south coast, near Brighton, UK.

Apparently not in the easy way, ie a standard Samsung update, because they stopped the Android 6 updates ages ago. Someone said to me that you could Root the phone and then put an upgraded operating system on it, which is a job I tried to do a long time ago on an old phone, but without success. Evidently it was way more complicated than I could handle, but if you, or someone you know can do it, or a local business that offers the service, then I daresay the answer is yes. Whether the phone hardware would drive anything newer than Android 7 I don't know, but again, someone who does this kind of thing would probably also know the answer to that.

Only the Hong Kong version was updated to Android 7.1.1 The Mainland China and Korean versions are stuck on 6.0.1

@@BeyondBillions not that I know of. If it wasn't upgraded before they stopped supporting Android 6 there isn't an easy way to do it. I had someone who knows about Rooting phones tell me you can root it and then put a stock Android 9 or 10 on it, but I don't know enough about that kind of thing to want to risk it.

They should call them "ugly" phones.wtf is nokia and samsung thinking just my opinion. I would prefer samsung d500 4g and or nokia 5300 4g. Simplistic dont have to be ugly and not usable. Eneways nice review man

Yes, I agree. The Samsung D500 was great in its day. I think an up to date Android version would sell.
