As others have said, it's one thing to know your a pro at work, but when a company supplies you with THEIR stuff to achieve a look and you're NOT using it, it doesn't provide any help to us. You should used the supplied cans as a control at the least. Like everyone else said, it's kind of a pointless video to say it doesn't work as "magic" in their video, when you didn't even use it how they said to use it. Your own methods maybe what causes the problem. Just because you understand how your usual method of painting works, doesn't mean you understand why that company supplies the rattle cans. It may be the secret sauce, and you cannot say otherwise until you actually try it.
Your experienced opinion is extremely welcome and I hope you make more of these videos. This is a great way to find out about high end products claiming magic, as you put it, thanks for the information!
As you're a pro, one would expect you'd use manufacturer's spec as a baseline, and then go from there if you got poor results. How do you consider this an effective review if you totally disregard the basecoat, and the rattle cans that most of us average joes would be using?
there is a real possibility that those rattles have a chemical reaction that is necessary to avoid the streaks, and to have the flakes lay flat. I'm with you, this video should be revisited.
Bingo. In the instructions, he states that if it doesn’t chrome within 10-20 seconds, the basecoat hasn’t had enough dry time, indicating that there is some sort of interaction between the products.
Congratulations! Despite your years of experience, you succeeded. Allowing the gloss black base to cure completely is critical. Heavy coats result in a dull finish. 1K topcoat (not 2K) is advised. "If all else fails, read the directions."
Further instructions also mentions that the base coat must be absolutely dry. They even recommend curing time of 3 days depending on size etc. The chemicals in the base coat actually interferes with the chrome and all of that has to evaporate before applying the chrome. But I suppose if you wrote a book you know it all

Yeah I got this cake making kit with sugar, eggs, and flour but I’m pretty much an expert chef so I threw out the sugar and eggs and just added vinegar and honey. This cake kit was horrible. Worst cake I have eaten, don’t buy it.

Come on man! You’re doing a review of a kit but not using their base products because “I don’t think these are as good as they say these are.” and “I know what I’m doing.”? Customspraymods did a demo using this product and got beautiful results because they used the system and followed instructions. Wow! I’m sure Alsa did a lot of research and formulation to get this finish. Sorry to say, this was not a review, not to mention completely unfair.
How can you properly test a product without using the actual product? The kit comes with 2 cans of there own paint for a reason, the reaction from altering the black paint could've also altered the way the chrome reacted once applied

Not going to be rude or anything, but the official youtube did infact say that it works on their own base coat. You should have, for at least demo purposes, put away your reservations and done a demo with at least their bottom coat, even if you don't like Rattle cans, just for comparison purposes.

Then use the recommended paints. You make it sound bad but yet you say you would use it. It’s because of our name and products you’re getting so many views. Consider being a nice guy Your test pieces weren’t even dry. Unreal You say it’s crap yet you would use it? Huh??? You have no idea of what these ingredients cost. Light passes are not the way to go. It’s only because you didn’t use our base.
Cool vid, light coats over a gloss black base is pretty standard for most chrome paints. Did think you missed an opportunity as it would have been better if you compared it to using the supplied aerosol cans as well. Although they're not the best, they could have had some other chemicals in there that helped the brush process. Maybe next time. Thanks for the content.
There are various chemical silver deposition methods (in the past, diy telescope builders would silver their optics with it). I suspect the product uses real silver, hence the price.
I've seen a couple of their application vids now and it seems to be done differently by them. They spray on the chrome paint, then another guy sprays on a clear liquid using a different sprayer. Then the first guy comes back and sprays the chrome again followed by the second guy spraying the clear liquid again... they do this 3 or 4 times alternating between the two. Does anyone know why there's a discrepancy between the two different application methods? The second spray seems to be what makes the chrome shiny... is this just an editing trick?
I wish you'd have, at least once, applied it using their base coat and clear coat as instructed.... to give everyone a better idea of what to expect out-of-the-box
Good to know the price here. I recently bought a truck that came with the chrome package and wanted to buy a grill guard to match. But the chrome ones all cost $200 more than their matte black equivalents. Figured I could save some money and buy the paint. Doesn't seem to be the case.
Alsa has always had this odd mix of materials that look like they spent a ton of money developing and a website/marketing that feel like they were exported from an old Geocities account.
I have a question. Would putting on one or two more coats of that product make it possible to polish the product to bring a better shine? Not that it doesn't look great right now I think I will look into that product even with the $200 price tag.
Glad somebody competent finally tested this stuff, I knew it was too good to be true. The low rez images were making it very hard to get a good look at the finish and I never saw anyone else review it. Thanks.

Hello, once the chrome paint is applied, is there a way to protect the chrome so that it does not turn black or with a minimum of stumbling it is damaged? Putting lacquer on it darkens it and the chrome loses its characteristic reflection.
So here's a suggestion, their own base coat is a gloss one. I know the S2-25 (the HOK jet black basecoat you used) is not glossy, it's a basecoat. My thought would be maybe you should topcoat that with a clearcoat to get the proper gloss before you put the chrome on? But it does seem to me that you didn't get the right shine due to using a basecoat which will dry dull and not glossy.
I loved this and would love more of it. Now that you've figured out the trick/secret, I'd love to see you experiment with some less expensive silver paints to see if you can get the same result for less money.

When you simulate Chrome in Blender, one technique is to add a "Color Ramp" to Black, to the "Shader". I think that is simulating the exact thing you figured out here with the light coat over a Black surface.
Spaz Stix Mirror Chrome will get much better results at a fraction of the cost; $10 - $12 a container. You apply it similarly with a black backer basecoat followed by light dusting coats of the Mirror Chrome. Surprised nobody has mentioned that yet in the comments, from what I can tell.
I’ve bought 1l of a french equivalent and had the idea to airbrush because the paint on result is horrible as you say, and I got a cloudy result when using a 1mm guage gun with the compressor. Hoping airbrush is the solution :)
Great video. Funny you painted your pretty ring. I wouldn't give £10 for that paint. But does look OK silver/chrome when sprayed light coats with airbrush gun. Might improve it using warm air drier afterwards. It seems endurable unlike Simonize that takes weeks to dry.
Yes he does say copy of his classroom ring. A replica hahaha, he is quite the entertainer. I found using chrome paint over black paint doesn't dry to good. Seems the secret is very light coats. Let it dry and then another light coat and so on.
what if it made a differance with the easy chrome outside in direct sunlight maybe hotter outside temp would dry differently also didn't use included cans base coat.
Is there a less expensive option that works well? It doesn't have to be perfect I just want something decently reflective and inexpensive. Thank you for the video :)
customspraymods seems to have better success using Alsa's gloss black primer, and no clear coat. you can check his vid. He also recommends spraying, either with a gun, or a can sprayer kit if you don't have a gun.

Look like it's just a regular metallic lacquer same as Alcad, which makes the price definitely seem out of hand considering the same 4oz size of alcad is only 30 dollars. Unless there's something really special about those rattlecan paints, I think this is just one of those things that gets remarketed to niche users for a big premium.

I would like to know how it actually holds up? Is it durable or is it just like typical paint and ,easy to scratch? Does it withstand the elements? Or do you find yourself always recovering with the paint all over again?
Only problem is your using Killer Chrome and not Easy Chrome as in the vid title. Both are from Alsa, but the newer Easy Chrome does give a better finish.
ive sprayed Easy chrome and it works just like on their video, and i used ppg base coat. i sprayed it not brushed it and here in Australia it costs $200.00 for 125 mls. ok so i sprayed black 2k base over 1k primer no problems came out like a mirror, i waited a couple of days and sprayed the easy chrome over the top. came out perfect. im not sure what this guy has done but ive got peices that look exactly like chrome
I know you're not keen on spray cans, but I've seen videos of people using the base coat products. Could you maybe give it a try to see if there's any difference.
So you couldn’t lower your ego enough to at least try the paint supplied with the kit? It probably would come out ten times better than what you did. But then we will never know will we.
