@@krazycharlie I have everything stock, as for temps I’ve been playing forza 5 and watching RU-vid for about an hour and all 8 cores are sitting around 40-50c and the gpu temp is at 33c. Idk if those are good temps or not but for what it’s worth I’ve never experienced slowdowns or hear the gpu fan when gaming.
I've got one of these with an i7 9th Gen and a 1660Ti, Just love this little machine. Primary drive is a SSD and I've got a 1TB just for storage and such. It really is a great little machine
I bet it's not all you have. You obsessive consumers can't help yourself. You're probably just like ETA himself here where you buy something you don't need that's a product that you have already reviewed. Buying shit you don't need is part of your identity though. At least ETA here does have an excuse for it, a slim one seeing how this is not exactly a "new" product but he can trawl some views off of it and use that money to buy even more shit.
I am running one of these with a 10700F/3060. Upgraded to a 1TB m.2 + 2TB 2.5" SSD. The gfx card is LHR, so I do most my gaming on this and let my 6800XT mine 99% of the time. This is a great unit. I have been trying to build one of these form factor for a decade now (from a Morex 2788-B). Equips with a 330w PSU and keeps good thermals in vertical stand mode.
It's pretty amusing that you're covering this system. I have a similar one, but by default mine came with the GTX 1660, a 512 GB SSD (and I think mine has the second slot for another drive, but I've not looked into it), an i5 (I think mine's a 10th gen) that is single threaded with 6 cores, and 8 GB of RAM by default. I don't do a whole lot of newer gaming, so it works pretty awesome for the games that I generally run on a regular basis (emulation mostly, but also some older computer games). · I forgot to add the amusing bit mentioned above. I'm actually watching this video on the system now. LOL. Sorry, it is pretty late.
Once I read your comment I started listening for it and it doesn't sound unnatural at all. When he refers to something him and the PC need it's "we", if it's something he's going to do it's "I". Also he includes us in the "we". We're looking at this pc together. Please watch a part of the video again you'll notice the times he say "I" and "we" make sense. This is not royal we.
It's kinda like those single web designers, web masters.... EVERY website says "we". NEVER have I seen a website that says "I have taken a lot of time to bla bla". It's to give the illusion of power and popularity.
@ETAPRIME MSI ms-17a16 ^this will allow you to use two power bricks at one time. With this you could get up to 660w and run the i9, as long as you don't mind two power cables.
Easy answer, console hardware is super optimized for gaming only, on PC everything is getting bigger and bigger also since the HW is made for everything is poorly optimized for power consumption. It´s a shame really
Nice to finally see my computer on here. Loyal viewer. A excellent test is playing kill zone psp emulation and running bluestacks intensive Android games. I know you do your regular list but the youth play games I rarely see you post.
Console form factor PCs are my weakness. So cool and useful. I remember having an Alienware alpha and I learned every inch of it. The cmos battery died and I replaced it. Felt so cool. But that was my tiny unit I play everything on back in the day. WoW, ffxiv, eso, and call of duty. Definitely still love the usability.
i liked the graphs at the end of video. and DO IT!! pack as much shit in that little case as possible. i want to see what that baby can do lol. love your videos. thanks
I have the 2nd gen trident that I purchased on Newegg a year or two back for $699.99 on sale that I upgraded the graphics card to a gtx1070 and power supply. I also have the trident x i9, 32gb ram, rtx3080 and its a beast!!!!!
You can actually use ultra settings in doom eternal, adjust the setting to your taste and then press P on your keyboard it saves the setting and goes to another menu then use ESC key to go back to game. I tested it and it works.
I don't even have a windows or linux/unix machine of any kind, gaming or otherwise but I love your reviews. When I eventually get a budget, it will be one of your many recommendations of how I'll slowly get back into PC gaming and true emulation (i've done a little on my m1 mac mini).
I have the Trident 3 10th version and upgraded it to the following specs: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F (Stock) Storage: 8TB SSD (4TB Western Digital Black SSD M.2 NVMe and 4TB Seagate Firecuda SSD Sata3) Memory: 64GB Kingston Fury Impact 2933Mhz Graphics: MSI Aero ITX NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 OC Edition - 12GB This PC is great for gaming and upgradeability is not an issue. I can play all games with great performance and no issues so far and the same for video editing. Thinking in upgrading the CPU to an I9-10900F soon.
I’m thinking about getting this one as it does have that 3060 card in it. Is it still working, still good? How’s the temps? Also how’s that GPU doing as it is 30 series card so I’m hoping for very nice graphics + good fps :)
@@Percival2644 The 3060 + the i7-10700F are too much for the included 330W power supply. I had to get an external 780W power supply so the Trident 3 can work without sudden shutdowns. Temps for me are around 80°C when playing demanding games. After the PSU upgrade, I haven't faced any issue so far.
@@obakamaster oh I see! If you wouldn’t mind linking or letting me know the power supply you got, that would help me out a ton! I definitely thought that power supply would be an issue
Nice little build! I was worried about the temps but it does much better than I was expecting, maybe thanks to that i5 CPU. I think going with an i7 is still viable but temps will see a good spike. As for an i9 will make it way hotter than desirable, so a less power-hungry CPU will make the difference.
cant believe that enthusiast machines are being shipped with mech drives as the primary drive these days, public retail price for a 1tb ssd is only 100ish quid, and the difference is night and day for performance. many old slow machines can be massively improved just by swapping in a cheap ssd
i had one of the previous models. the biggest downside is they basically have zero ability to upgrade outside of ram/storage, and the vast majority of components don't change out to a normal pc, so you're basically left with a box with mostly useless components if something significant fails, or you want to upgrade. and if you manage to find a gpu that also fits in the case you have to contend with their very narrow power limitations.
I did extensive research on the power supplies and can confirm you can not upgrade it. If the motherboard is ver 1.0 it will not read the higher watt power supply
Awesome video as usual! Do you think you could try to include some info about the noise levels under load with those mini PCs? I like how you now regularly include the power consumption chart, some info about the noise level would be awesome since i think those PCs might be a good choice for silent environments (AKA Bedroom :))
That's a normal laptop cooler, so think normal gaming laptop fan noises unless you're pushing that gfx card hard. The laptop GPU cooler is probably louder than that 1660's. But what difference does it make? If it's just idling it'll be silent, if you're gaming you're either going to have headphones or you're going to have volume on, likely won't hear it either way.
@@MrSlowestD16 well Laptop fans are very annoying under load and the point was that some of those small and silent systems might be used for example in a bedroom where people might be sleeping.
@@Flako-dd Gotcha. Yea I'd say if laptop fan noise is a problem for you it's probably not a good call. May be better to get one of those AliExpress gaming PC's with the low profile desktop 1650 and the desktop CPU cooler. They're like an inch thicker because of that CPU cooler, but it's a normal desktop cooler and probably significantly quieter). That being said, the Trident is probably common enough that if you Google it you can find some videos of them under full load with the noise the fans are making.
I didn't even know this exsisted at all , I've been looking for a system to run in my living room alongside my series X and also use it as a media system for things like Kodi etc . The form factor is what's the most appealing part of it for me perfect to sit under my TV . Massive thanks for the video I'm going hunting now for one .
@@ChriswithaCrc series s/x has a developer mode that you can pay $10 for and run retroarch for emulation. Not sure on the mediacenter though. We probably will see a lot more options in the future if steamOS and the steamdeck take off
I saw the white version of this one in person it look clean and neat. Unfortunately, I don't see them updating the white version anymore. I'm still waiting for a small pre built PC with good GPU power. Mac mini is great but the M1 GPU is still not enough for my Casual gaming. Maybe, if they will update it to m1 pro or max then most of the people might consider especially if they will do something on their OS.
@@LiminalSpaceMan192 Sorry, but you're wrong. You're thinking of Steam Link. Steam Machines were small form factor PCs running SteamOS. They were a complete flop.
@@MichaelFagerstrom oh haha duh. The fact that I got the two mixed up shows how great of a success they were. It would be cool to try and resurrect the steam machine nonetheless
Looks like a very capable machine. Definitely better then a lot of the current listings on eBay. I wouldn't waste my time with anything under 9th gen and 1660 only because you can get much more capable laptops for what these are going for used. I mean I get the appeal of this form factor, but I'm more of a laptop person. For this to be useful for me, I would have to have a specific set of hardware.
@@Fernando-RodriguezFernando.. . Fernando.. . If I have the money to burn, what does it matter what I choose to "waste" it on? 🤭 And for the record, it's only a waste if I don't want it.
@@josephl3602 if you truely need it then buy laptops but laptops are practically inferior to desktops, you can spend the same amount of money on building a desktop pc and get a much better performance for a longer peried besides you can upgrade your graphics card and cpu and the machine keeps going for a few more years laptops don't offer as many options as desktops.
There is a guy in my area with MSI Trident 3 for $650. With Intel Core i5 9400F (6 cores 6 threads) - 16 GB DDR4 RAM - MSI Mainboard - Kingston 240GB m.2 SSD - 1TB Hard Drive - Nvidia GeForce 1650 4GB Is this a good price?
You like all different stuff, and i enjoy your reviews. Have an idea for you, lol, order PCI-E to MXM3.0 Graphics Card PCI Express X1 to MXM 3.0 Raiser Riser Card Adapter Converter Board with LED for BTC Miner Mining (around 25$), video card amd Firepro M5100 (around 50$) and try to use it thru Pci to m.2 adapter as external video card for mini pc. That would be a blast if it would work (it should theoretically) Now that experiment i'd love to see lol. Best wishes.
I have one of the first Trident models (Skylake i5, GTX 1060). I still use it, but it has a defect in that it takes about 30 minutes to an hour to finally turn on. A lot of early models had that issue, but MSI never acknowledged it or recalled them.
Clicked the eBay link and these are going for $700 to $1000? For what? You know what else is $700 to $1000 on eBay? A scalped PS5 or Series X! I don't get the pricing logic with this one. One can do 1080p gaming @ 30fps maybe 60fps? The other can do 4k gaming with ray tracing @4k 60fps or 120fps @ 1080p. Again, where's the logic?? If you're using this for gaming (and alot in the comments are) you're essentially paying $700 - $1000 to game on something the equivalent of a base PS4 which goes for about $250 used on eBay. I just can't wrap my head around why they would price it at this range with what little performance it offers when there are cheaper alternatives with the same performance. Or pay the same price and get a PS5 that has 6x the performance
34 watts at idle?!! That's too high man Would be fun to see this console size pc running recalbox or something to see if Power consumption / performance differs Any way, great video
I actually found something better in shop here in Poland. There are two available now: MSI Creator P50 with i5-11400 + RTX 3060. The other one is MPG Trident AS i7-11700F and RTX 3070! I would even consider buying one if just they either have Ryzen 5600 or new i5-12600K. Maybe MSI will release new one in 2022.
You haven't been benchmarking NS emulation, legal stuff? Or is it too confusing with all the crazy updates like project hades and yuzu's fsr implementation?
definitely test the 330w PSU, if anything, you'll know the limit and step down the cpu and maybe step up the GPU a little still, I'd say that would be worth it for some longevity
From what I'm seeing, forza 5 is everything but smooth despite the FPS counter. Same for Witcher 3. I play Witcher 3 at 1440P at around 70FPS average, it's buttery smooth. Here, there's tearing all over the place and it seems like it sticks every 2-3 seconds. the other games look the same. High FPS is great but if it looks and feels stuttery, something is wrong.
I just sold one to my friend, with a 2070 Super for $600, I don't rip off my friends. He needed a PC, I still wanted some money, and thought 1/3 of what I paid for it, was good enough.
I bought the 10400F + 1660S on sale late last year for my first gaming PC in 20yrs, love it. I also bought a back-up 330W PSU brick to keep at the living room TV. Could you install a i9 or i7 125W CPU and run it at 65W to see how it performs? The Microcenter nearby doesn't have 65W CPUs anymore, just the 125W versions. I'd consider upgrading CPU since they're relatively cheap now. Or....if you get a 330W PSU, could you see if you could run a 3060Ti externally using your PCIe extension? That's what I'm really interested in. Cheers!
Another way to keep temps under control if the TIM swap doesn't do the trick would be to undervolt CPU and GPU. Did wonders for my RTX 2070 that has a garbage cooler.
In my country this would go for about 1200 dollars...not really attractive because of that but if it was affordable it would be awesome, bet it does Yuzu emulation at 1080p without any major problems.
