The "give away book" looks very interesting. I have been blending various wool's and mohair for socks for a while now. I always click on your podcast when your are doing this spin along. It is great that you delve into the whole process the way you do.Thank you for making the time for this project every year.

Hi Kerry it was great to get up this morning and have a coffee ☕️ with you and catch up with the spinalong and seeing your socks, they are looking good and your Shetland socks are very pretty, here in Northwest Queensland Australia we have mostly Merino, with a few farms of Dorset? For meat. I live on a cattle station as a caretaker/ cook and in my spare time I craft which includes spinning, I am looking into finding some different fibre for a more durable yarn for making some work socks so this has been very informative for me thank you for sharing

Very much enjoying taking part in your spin for socks along. Inspiring to see your Shetland socks, they look gorgeous. I’ve finished spinning and now knitting socks inspired by a frosty morning in Norfolk, UK. The sock book looks so interesting and I also like Rita Buchanan books, she is a good teacher. Hope lambing goes well x

Thank you for sharing parts of your life with us. I was raised on a small family farm in Montana and seeing the sheep brings back fond memories. I think every flock or herd has a least one kooky rebel but they usually turn out OK in the end. The book looks very interesting to me and I am glad you showed that it has some beginner patterns. I just started hand spindling last September so am very new to this beautiful world!

You inspired me to spin for socks. Hubby wanted 10 pairs! He'll be happy with 3. I'm in the UK and using a commercially produced merino/nylon/stelina blend. I'll be crocheting on pair. Thought I'd try something different. Thank you for the encouragement. Your socks look so gorgeous.

I love your stories about your sheep and their personalities. That ewe sounds like a handful. I am still in the spinning part of the process. I was thinking that colorwork might make my socks last longer, I think the fabric would get less compressed against the floor and get less friction. Maybe I will do that if I get enough contrast in my yarns. That book about spinning for socks sure looks like a treasure!

I just discovered you today, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your woolly adventures. I am a newish knitter, but I have knit a sock, and I’m part way through the second. Mittens sound like fun to knit, too, so I’ll be trying them down the line. Your sheep, spinning, and knitting just draw me in. I’m going to go back and watch your past episodes now. I already have the book, so don’t include me in the giveaway. Can!t wait to see what you do next! And I love the looks of those Shetland socks.

I love how cozy your test socks from your Shetland fiber look. Your sock set socks are also looking so warm and inviting. Huzzah! I’ve finished my yarn for the heels and toes. I hope to begin the sock body spin this week. Everything is taking such a long time as my thumb rehab moves forward slowly. But spinning is great therapy, and more fun than what the occupational therapist prescribes! I hope I can have my sock spin done by the end of March. I'll hopefully be knitting by then and can slowly turn my yarn into socks. This is definitely long term making for me. I hope the crazy ewe lamb settles down and becomes a model sheep citizen in your flock! harpingJanet

Hi Cary! I was thinking of you today and wishing we could have a cup of tea and a knitting session together, and I happened to check youtube for new episodes and there you were! So enjoyed this visit and am excited to keep spinning my sock set. I am almost done with one ounce of the Harlequin, but love your idea of blending it with the Finn/Alpaca on the carder. I might try that with the other ounce, and hopefully will still have enough yardage for socks. I think I have that sock knitting book and will have to search for it. There are so many wonderful resources I tend to pass by when only looking online for things these days. I love how you highlight them so people can learn what's available! Best of luck with the sheep chores. They are so cute! Also- I’m loving spinning the Bunny Toes tonight!

Fiber seeds!!!! 🐑 🐑 Oh how fun. Your socks look great! love the bunny 🐰 toes. I am so you had some assistance with your shetland fiber, sometimes it can be a bit finicky if it is a shorter staple. That being said, I LOVE 💕 your shetland socks, oh my gosh, that black and purple - dreamy. Did you spin a 2ply for them? Doing the colorwork will give you additional strength on the soles, so they should wear well. Is the purple also shetland? I am going to have to do colorwork socks. I will reach out for some pointers for colorwork socks. 🧦 I really enjoy all the resource books you have shared. Thank you for another enjoyable visit 🥰 🤗

Hi Cary. I'm so glad I found you here on You tube and following your #sockspinalong24. Have now acquired wool and alpaca from a sheep farmer about 1 hour's drive from my home. The wool will be in my mailbox soon and not only that, managed to get hold of angora wool from an owner of rabbits not too far from here. Unfortunately, I don't have time to spin now, but when everything has calmed down around me, I sit down at the spinning wheel and expect to be able to start knitting my socks in the fall. I'm a beginner but I feel so secure, through you, that it will still be a pair of socks. Thanks a lot for all your videos, have seen them all. Sincerely, Lena

Happy to find you after knitting socks for 45 year from commercial yarn. By the years I find those not so comfy to use. Now I ´m spinning for maybe 12 years and just once I tried to spin for socks. These socks did ´n last so long, and it was ´t only because of using them on ruff ground. So, I give it a try again.

Hi Cary I’m glad to report I’ve finished my first pair of socks done in a 3 ply. I’ve learnt a lot even had to cut the toe off and shorten them slightly but they fit beautifully now and I’m really proud. On to the second pair also 3 ply but slightly thinner as first pair are probably a dk size.

@@mywoolmitten I enjoy everything about your podcasts. The life with the sheep and spinning are passions of mine. I have a five year plan and the end result will be to have my own spinners flock. I would like to know more about how you chose your breeds and what you like about the fleece. I am leaning towards Shetland sheep as they are considered a "ladies" sheep. They are small, meaty and produce great fleece. I especially like the idea of rooing them as oppposed to shearing. I am looking to be more self-sufficient in my ageing years. So trying to find a shearer would be difficult as I am not in sheep country. Curious have you milked sheep? Tried to milk sheep? O h I could sit in a room with my wheel going and pick your mind for a very long time I think.

while I haven't got a sock yarn yet, I feel like I'm getting much closer! The yarn I finished was aran, and I would like something a bit closer to sport for socks if possible. But I did really like the 3-ply roundness and bounce of it, which I would like to try to get in a sock yarn! I've just finished up the first single on my spindle for my next attempt. I think getting a good sock yarn as a beginner spinner will be a goal that might carry me into the next spin-to-knit-along, but I'm enjoying the process. I love the colourwork pattern you're using with your socks! I certainly would like to be entered into the draw for the spin-off socks book, it sounds like a great resource!

Hi Cary! I thoroughly enjoyed watching your latest video and I’m admiring your socks! Please don’t include me for the book drawing. I have a question about the bunny toe fiber that is included in your curated sock box. Do you spin it on its own, or blend it with the other fibers? On this video I think I heard you say your sock toes are being knit just with the bunny toe spun yarn. That got me to thinking of blending and spinning the bunny toe fiber with other fibers to create a yarn to knit a cozy warm pair of sock. I would love to know your thoughts about that!

'I'm knitting my 3rd pair (2nd of Cary's Corriedale . Great spinning. I ddid pit a lot of twist as I thought socks need it. However, the socks are quite rustic and stiffer than perhaps I want. My husbands sock I used size 3 needle; mine size 1(I spun quite bit finer than hubby's) Wondering if I should have gone up a size needle or put less twist. The yarn feels great and quite bouncy
