Sometimes you just find a handy little add on to some of your favorite tools and you just have to share! That’s what happened when I found the Knipex Jaw Protectors, a way classier look than my normal method of wrapping the jaws in electrical tape that Ive done for years. Ranging from $6-$12 for a pack of them at the time of recording, its an inexpensive thing to just add that little bit extra of professionalism to your image on the Jobsite. #knipex #plierswrench #knipexcobra

I own several pliers wrench’s from Knipex, pretty much replaced my crescent wrench and my slip joint pliers. I usually throw some 3M 33+ electrical tape on them but this looks like a great option. Thanks for the video!

Those jaw protectors really are super handy. I’ve got some for my pliers wrench and recently used them to tighten up a shower head without marring the surface finish. 👍 Still need to get some for my cobra pliers. Cheers! 🥃😎

Outstanding! Great idea and video. Now, how to get mechanics, technicians and plumbers to use them when I hire help.

The pliers wrench don't marr up finished surfaces. Ive done many a chrome plated flush valves for toilets with them. Not one scratch.

2:04 The number in the middle is the handle type which, as you say, is irrelevant to the jaws/covers.

I have the ones for my 10" cobras. Have had them for like 2 years, and only used them maybe 3 times. Once was on a chrome plated pipe that I had to remove. But was so tight, I couldn't get grip with the protectors. I had to squeeze so hard, that the teeth bit right through and put light marks on the pipe. You lose a lot of grip with them, but still have their uses. Also, for the love of god, don't use any wrenches on shower heads. Most the times the threaded part is plastic and easy to break. Tighten by hand, then test for leaks. Adjust only if needed

I didn't know they made these for the cobras too... I usually use a wide rubber band, I think you call em "ranger bands", between my cobras and the stuff I don't want to scratch. Oh and for the pliers wrenches the protectors don't fit on the older pliers, they're shaped differently. Might need to keep an eye on that

I have seen them before, but as I rarely do installation work these days, I tend to use the old school methods you mentioned. McMaster-Carr do a similar option and call them non-marring slip joint pliers, either with these plastic covers or some with brass jaws. There are a few Chinese bulk manufacturers that do some as soft-jaw pliers, but none o them match the range that McMaster or Knipex do.

Well you got me, I bought both types! lol. I think the set for the Cobras should be made heavier, do the pliers teeth cut right through them?

Nice product, made just for the Knipex's , may have to get some, I have been using small pieces of leather , leather works pretty good, is durable and also grips quite well
@MillisConstruction
@MillisConstruction 2 года назад
Yes it would, I hadn’t thought of leather. Did you make them to fit? I’ve just used electrical tape up until now
@robertperry2079
@robertperry2079 2 года назад
@@MillisConstruction I didn't make them to fit , I just cut a strip, enough to wrap around what I want to grip on and then put the pliers on

I have been using old serpentine belts or using cut-up inner tube on certain applications.

Absolutely! Some reason I couldn’t think of electrical tape and said duct tape and painters tape in the video but yep! I always used that 😁 these are slightly classier lol

I tried it only once and they didn’t work. The pliers slipped and got warped from the fixture. Maybe I’m missing something but I was better off using without them and relying on the smooth jaws of the water pump pliers themselves with no marring

I use heat-shrink tubing on my cobra 180mm pliers. It's far from a perfect solution, but it works, it stays on and is fairly tough; the down size is that it has to be cut off to remove it. I haven't been able to find the red vinyl "soft jaws" for this size (7") pliers . If anyone know where to find these, please post.

@Fictitious_Character

I'm ghetto I guess and just wrap them with electrical tape. I also don't need to do that as often as some other people might. They look good though.

I have finally to buy one…which one would you recommend as a basic for your tool box at home: The 180mm or the the 250mm?
@MillisConstruction
@MillisConstruction 2 года назад
The 250 mm if it’s your only one. The 180 would probably be my second one. If you carry it on you then the 180 first as the 250 is too large to keep in a pocket setup.

Hey buddy.... so I just came across your channel and I did subscribe. Hoping I can get your opinion on a few things. I'm looking to buy my 1st set of QUALITY hand tools and think I'm going to go with knipex. So for my 1st cobras and pliers wrench what do you think the best size is? I'm going to get a few eventually but for the 1st of each, what size? Then would like to know what would be your suggestion for the next 3 or 4 tools from knipex. Like linesman,twingrip,wire strippers..... ect. Thanks for your help!
@MillisConstruction
@MillisConstruction 2 года назад
For the first two, I’d get 250 mm on both. They’re just great all around unless you plan on carrying them on you then the 180 is easier to do that with. I’d go with 250 if I had to choose a single size for an unknown job though. From there I’d add the forged wire strippers with the screw cutters and wider tips. Just a lot of heavy duty usefulness right there. Good pair of needle nose is also a need for me. On the linesman’s, I’d look at their various models as they have some that have a lot more features baked in than others. Line pullers etc. Side cutters are right up there in the first few too, just handy in many situations unless you can get an adequate cutter in the needle nose or linesman’s. From there it seriously depends on what you do or expect to be doing? I’m happy to discuss with you if you like, just message me over on Instagram and I usually respond pretty quickly 😁 Happy New Year!
