Whilst I have no official trade qual’s, this old technician came through in the school of hard knocks… and when the boss man teaching said it was a cir-clip, it was a goddamn cir-clip. Just the same as we have spanners, not wrenches. And the boss man teaching had fists and the entitlement to use them as an incentive in the education of young whippersnappers. Kind regards from Oz 🇦🇺👍

I do not, any longer, fool around with anything hot other than testing. A few years ago I had a customer with a water leak in the crawl space. There was enough headroom to be on your knees with your head between the joists. The ground was muddy with a inch or so of standing water in areas. I seen the wire running along the joist but didn't give it much thought, until. Apparently the homeowner or ? had cut into the wire down to the copper, I missed that. My elbow got into the bare wire, knees in the mud and water. I have been hit with 220 and while I would not recommend it, that was nothing compared to the hit I received from that 110. Holy crap, It took a second to realize what was was causing my eyes to cross because it was literally everywhere on me. It was definitely the worst shock I have ever had. Stay strong brothers and be safe.

I am a high voltage electrician and I use the blue and red handled diagonal cutters and forged wire strippers to troubleshoot neon transformers pushing out 15-20k volts, along with pole lights pushing out two lines of 277v. I’ve cut live wires plenty of times and so have many other electricians in the service field. There’s no way the electricity we work with is going to conduct through that thick plastic.
@drangduewel
@drangduewel 12 дней назад
It is the same material, just thicker in some places. All electrical pliers are tested with 10,000V. If there was an air bubble in the handle of the non-electric pliers, you wouldn't notice it. In that case, you could be killed.

I could see where they could be confused for insulated tools; but you should definitely check the handle every time you pick them up with intentions of working on live electrical.

Greetings from Poland. Nice video 👍. Not sure how in US, but in Europe, Knipex makes 1000V tools also with all-red handles (please check for example pliers no. 03 07 180 in graphics). They are more or less similar in shape as those yellow-red ones (the handles are thicker compared to standard pliers), but made with the similar material as this plastic coated pliers wrench mentioned first in the video (they are shiny red). From what I know, there is no difference between all-red 1000V pliers and yellow-red 1000V ones in terms of technicalities (besides coating), but the all-red ones are used mostly by technicians dealing with power lines, tension poles, transformers etc., and the yellow-red ones are used by electricians installing sockets, lamps, working in household installations in general. This is not an official division or similar, just some kind of general "rule" the tools are used (do not know the exact reason why it is so). As for the pronunciation, the Germans say Knipex with K at front. You can take the word knee, say it with k at front and add "pex" at the end, this is more or less how it sounds.

7 year journeyman Canadian electrician, first off I will say we should be doing everything in our power to eliminate workplace related injuries and deaths from every industry. We all want to go home to our family’s at the end of the day and not have injuries. Electrical safety is more than a having 1000v tool safety rating. You need proper training, tools, procedures, proper equipment, communication and awareness of your surroundings.

All the pliers I buy from Kinpex are all going to be comfort grip handles. I have two maybe three pairs with the regular handles and I don't like them digging into the palms of my hands. I have larger hands and most. But I've also been very sick for the last two decades so from my hundred and 95 lb body I'm 130 lbs now. So I have no more padding in my hands that I once had so the comfort handles make the difference of the world. Worth every bit of the two to three dollars more they want for them. I don't really do much work around live electrical so I've never seen the need or necessity to own much of the insulated stuff except for 1 special tip screwdriver for changing out outlet receptacles

If u search there’s usually a better version of snap on fir everything. I own my fair share of snap on and also vim and knipex etc when applicable . Fun to shop around and research. Also nice to just have convenience of name brand truck tools delivered or order knipex online or head to local lisle/napa or our farm ranch carry GW and teketon etc. Fir a tool I will use I usually don’t have time at that moment to research so I stick to brands I trust. Sparky's and other electrically qualified professionals remember unless you see the double insulated symbols (double square or triangle) along with the insulation rating written on the handle it's not insulated. This may save your life if you are working on live wires and using properly insulated tools. If they are not properly insulated you will get electrocuted and potentially killed. Don't risk your life, take the time and effort to read and verify you are using the proper tools and PPE for the job.
@burnedupsparkytipsandrevie9597
What is knipex warranty on their insulated pliers. My 1000v installation pliers got ran over by a roller coaster and destroyed the handles. I still have them In service just wrapped them in 33, 130c and glass tape, and even though when I do live work it’s with my class 00 gloves and arc shield still would like to have the certified insulation again
