Been-there-done-that on a dive tour the boat had to go back in town replace the hose or tightening because no one had a wrench ( I am looking for one now) Thanks Alex.
Kevin told me in Fiji, the dive boat motor died. Find the cable to the battery snapped off. No tools, drifting to rocks. Used a divers knife to cut the cable and zip tie it to the battery post then back to shore. 18 divers miss a dive due to basic tools, not fun my friend.
I have one of the star tools in my pouch at all times while diving. I added a lanyard so it cannot get lost if I drop it while using it. Under water it has been used once but good to have it on hand.
I always have that 'ninja shuriken' (XScuba multi-tool. That's what my buddies and customer use to poke fun about it whenever they see me taken it out from my pocket 😆) and Pandora's multi-tool stored in the zipped pocket of my tech pants.
The equipment specialist class is pretty much a waste of time and money. Especially if they only teach what PADI requires. I used to be a card collector, so I took it. But maybe I was expecting to much out of it. Still take my gear to local store anytime I have a problem.
excellent video, not so excellent tool this can save the day but I can't rely on such a tool to go deeper in regulator maintenance tooling asks for specific steels quenched and drawn to a specific degree to insure strenght and wear properties, the fit to the nut or the inner hex is of a capital importance to avoid ripping the bolt head, the nut or allen cap screw head.
The second tool is for simple field fixes, the first for pro's but as you said, deep maintenance needs tools, training and experience which most divers don't care to invest in. Take care Jacques.

I have the Apeks MTX-R din sidemount set. I do lots of cold water diving. I noticed some moisture in the first stage after removing the spg. I removed all hoses and connected to tank to blow out a small amount of moisture. Both first stages had the same amount of moisture in them. I have them drying out. Is this normal for the apeks din ? Any help or experience with the MTX-R would be appreciated. Perhaps my connecting or disconnecting the din first stage is in error?? Thank you in advance
There should be NO moisture inside the 1st stage of any regulator, DIN or not. First, be sure the water you see is actually inside and not in a pocket or cavity on the reg. If there is water inside, then sorry, but you are doing something wrong. I'm not sure why you're removing the SPG. Is it a detachable style or are you removing the hose at the reg body? Removing & replacing hoses could be a source of water. Let me know exactly where you are seeing this water and I'll think of some possible solutions. Alec
Hay Alec, off subject here, but i recently heard about a new product just coming out, that i really think should be a huge hit in the scuba market. Its a full face mask conversion system. The RKD D40 mask. Basically its a full face mask that you use your 2nd stage on. It has a 180° range of vision, and has a silicone seal, and a sealicone area for pinching your nostrils to help you equalize. Its priced about $130. I like the idea of useing my own 2nd stage... mainly because i have brand new chinese no name brand ones that are working great for my right now... but also if i want the performance of the Pacer X or what ever brand 2nd stage I have, I can use that on the mask. Also at $130, I can afford it!!!! Hopefully, i can find a way to order one from a web site or a seller that has a honest and good reputation. I get asked about full face masks a lot and have it on my future video list. Problem is few stores carry FFM's and with Covid, I won't open a new unit just to test it out. Anyone paying for a FFM should get it totally untouched. Stay tuned and it will be done some day my friend.
