Not a midair - someone tumbled. I'm not sure why - it was rough but I didn't find it THAT rough in that area. He came down in a clearing in trees and only suffered some minor cuts and bruises.

Especially with a nose as big as mine eh? !! ;-) No my nose is fine actually. But it's not as cold as it looks. Sometimes it feels warmer in the air because I'm wrapped up more warmly than on the ground.

Richard, nothing divvy about that question! My Vario does have the total energy option, but I don't use it

Thank you so much for getting back, Darren. I ask because, unlike my tatty old Goldmarque Shadow (in the 90s), your T2C probably retains energy quite well! Thank you for the fabulous videos: they really aren’t helping me to keep my feet on the ground! I would be starting again from scratch but oh so tempting.

Hi Andy - yes my vario tells me the glide angle to goal from my current position. So a rule of thumb is that when it gets as good as a 10:1 glide angle, you should make it. Although this depends on a number of factors including sink, headwind etc. Similarly you might make it to goal with a much more difficult glide angle if you encounter lifting air / a tailwind. For example on this flight I set off to goal with a 15:1 glide angle required, but the numbers got better and better as I was able to ridge soar a little bit on the way.
