This video shows how to hang a picture of Darwen tower using the French cleat method. The French cleat method can be used to hang a multitude of objects and is one of the simplest and best methods to use.

I’m still very busy working on site full time, so unfortunately I do not have much time to make many videos. Amazingly it has been dry weather for over a week where I live in Darwen, today is a beautiful day! I hope you all have a great day ;-)

I'd love to have a workshop like you. The amount of things I'd make.
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 7 лет назад
Thanks, the only problem with my workshop is that it is very small as it's only a single garage at the side of the house. I waste hours and hours of my life moving things and trying to find things because I do not have the space to have everything set out. I'd make a lot more things if I had the time but at the moment I'm very busy working on site most days. Thanks for the comment ;-)

Great vid, what a good use of a French cleat! Gives a lovely flush finish. Best practice using the envelope as nothing worse than trying to clean up red brick dust and even plasterboard gives off dust. Also use of screwdriver as opposed to powered driver as you get more control and I find the board does not bulge as much. Nice to see you still around and appreciate you have a living to earn - we get some great tips from you. All the best - Mike
@ultimatehandyman

Thanks Mike, I always try and use the envelope but it wasn't really needed with the wall paper as there was no visible dust. Thanks for the comment

When I do something like this, I also measure from the ceiling/coving to the wood to double check as the ceiling might not be perfectly straight and the picture could look crooked even though it's straight. Good video though.

Nifty method - I like the ability to adjust horizontally after. I also like that you checked it for level after the first screw had been fixed. You did however forget the envelop taped to the wall for the 2nd fixing - probably not needed! Can the wall fixing be screwed in with an impact driver or would it be too powerful?
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 7 лет назад
Thanks Matthew, I didn't forget the envelope- there was no dust at all when I installed the first fixing and so I never bothered to use it for the second fixing. I have installed these fixings in the past using my drill and on a non wallpapered wall and there was a bit of dust, which is why I used the envelope this time (for the first fixing). You probably could use an impact driver but plasterboard is easily damaged and so best to use a screwdriver. Thanks for the comment

Can we please have a review on the best screwdriver set to buy
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 7 лет назад
I have thought about doing this, but I have not tried every make of screwdriver. At work I use Teng, at home in the garage I use Beta, in my home toolbox I use CK insulated, in the house I use the Bahco ratcheting screwdriver, but my favorites are CK tools screwdrivers- I have some of these that are over 25 years old and still going strong! Which reminds me that I must treat myself to a new set of them ;-) Thanks for the comment

with older houses where floor or ceiling is not level with the earth ,would u measure by eye instead of still insist on spirit level ? whats ya view on this ?
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 7 лет назад
I always use a spirit level but sometimes if I'm installing stuff at work and other pipes etc. are not level it's best to follow the original pipe work or else it stands out like a sore thumb. Thanks for the comment

Hi mate, just wondered are AEG giving out those drills to prominent review channels for reviewing? I've seen a few other fairly big channels with permanent AEG logos in the videos and their tools being used for instructional videos. Enjoyed the video. Those plasterboard fixings are great. I always drill a 2/3mm pilot hole first then screw in the fitting with a flat head, always find it does less damage to the board/better solid fixing than the brute force hand/drill method. Thanks Ryan
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 7 лет назад
I'm not sure if they want the drill reviewing but sent it for me to test, so far I am impressed with it ;-) I think some people even charge firms to use tools that are sent to them and won't use or review stuff if they are not paid! I've never tried drilling a pilot hole, but will give it a go next time. Thanks for the comment ;-)
@shifty277
@shifty277 7 лет назад
Nice to see another major company enter the market to give Dewalt, Makita & Bosch some competition. I think they have major chops in the US under the Rigid brand so they should be good quality tools coming to the UK. I've always found the small pilot helps greatly when driving them in by hand - I refuse to use the combi drill with this application. Thanks for this video nice and technical with great editing to bring it all together.

Ahh you are correct the goliath that is TTI - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Techtronic_Industries Although I was onto something here, the Ridgid Tools look lb for lb like AEG ones and TTI make the tools for Ridgid for the US market en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ridgid

Check out a "Fixing" called EZ Ancor, made of plastic, seems like a heck of allot less waste and has a better guide once you poke a hole through the drywall with a #2 Philips head screw driver.Sold by Home depot here in the U.S. It's a better solution then that metal Auger..

Would you recommend your table saw, what make & model is it? Thanks!
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 7 лет назад
Yes, I would recommend the saw- it's the Evolution Rage 5. So far I have only cut a few pieces of timber and acrylic (with a special blade). The machine is really impressive and the dust extraction is good once you have connected the machine up to a vacuum. Evolution recommend that you don't remove the blade guard so this machine can only be used for cutting, if you wanted to do some types of woodworking joints another machine may be more suitable. Thanks for the comment ;-)

It's hard to say, but the chuck can be changed for an offset chuck or the chuck can be removed to expose a 1/4 hex chuck on the AEG, plus the 4AH batteries seem to last a long time. I have only charged the battery once and I have used it several times (it comes with two 4AH batteries). I quite like the feel of it and so far it has been great, hopefully it will be reliable ;-)
