Today we are unboxing and testing out our brand new 12 HP Hangkai Chinese Outboard. We will show you what all comes in the box, how to fill the lower unit (foot) oil, and starting the motor up for the very first time. The Hangkai 18 started on the first pull. Let's see if this one does too!

Just an FYI if you rev it up on the hose like that without backpressure, not only are you increasing the chances that it will runaway on you, but you can easily bend or snap reed valves. only idle or just off idle on the hose!

So you remember when the 18hp puked on you because of the pressure? When you reinstalled that top plug you allowed it to build a negative pressure to assist in hold the gear lube in.

i just bought one, i get it on friday cant wait to use it on my 10.8 inflatable boat hopefully it can get it on plane with 2 people.

It’s definitely a big upgrade over the 6 hp that we had. Haven’t got the chance to test it with 2 people but the 18 planes very easily with 2 people. Hopefully this one will as well.

Do you think that engine would be to heavy for a 12 foot Jhon boat? Im looking to buy one of these engines for my Jhon boat because i want something ballsy enough to get me up and down a moving river! I'd really like your thoughts on that? Or do you think i should just go with a 6 hangkai? 😂

That not the way , break in Hangkai engine,, should follow the braek in step by step,, you cant just simply ramming engine like that..

Is this a long shaft outboard? Because my 13' Saturn SD 385 requires a short shaft outboard. Either way I'm still looking at getting the 12 horsepower outboard. Please let us know how this performs on your bris boats. Thanks again

It is a 400mm short shaft. It's looking like it can get the boat up around 20 mph with one person and gear. We should have a video coming up soon. We've been trying to get the 12 and 18 past the break in and we've been running them in some pretty harsh conditions.

I have a 14 jon boat! All I hear is about these motors on inflatables, I need one for my Jon boat.

I wish we still had an old jon boat laying around that we could test it on. Unfortunately the one we've got now has a stick steer and remote controls so it would be difficult to toss one of these on it. That being said, I'm sure it would work fine. The Hangkai 12 is a copy of a Tohatsu 9.8, so if you think 9.8 HP is enough for your boat you should be good.

It's about damn time you figured out how to change the fluid in a lower unit...not a foot....lmao 😂 I thought it was great when the 18 horsepower spit fluid everywhere... I just wonder how many people followed your instructions😮

Yea I was always taught to fill from bottom up and watch it come through the top. That way no back pressure

So far so good. We should have some riding videos up once we get it past the break in period. We've been running it in some pretty rough conditions and it's been good. Gets the 10.8 FT dinghy on plane even with 3 adults on board.

They sell them on Amazon, eBay, and Walmart.com. There is a link to the Amazon listing in the video description. You may have to check with your state if you have to register outboards, but in our state we don't.

So I was about to buy this, come to find out in Texas you title and register outboards, did package come with a blank title or Mfr of origin doc or other for titling registering? I’m new to this. I wrote hangkai and they said they don’t send paper work. That puzzles me.
