Yes. Gotta do this one. This one hits you hard. One verse in particular in this song will literally make you feel like you’ve been punched in the gut. I won’t spoil it, but you’ll know it when you hear it.
Tried to order a bribe for the People’s Choice Awards performance but couldn’t get Vine and Table to work this time. Would be great if you could do a reaction to it.
DISCO.... he's talking about disco clubs... Donna Summer was the queen of disco. In the late 70s and early 80s disco was so pervasive that it even leaked into country music... like Urban Cowboy type music... listen to Exile "Kiss You All Over" and think about that playing at a good ole country bar... that's what Hank was talking about.... You guys got there...
You took my comment LOL that's exactly what I was about to say he's not talking about rock and roll he's talking about rap and disco and stuff Hank Williams Junior has been on a lot of tours with rock and roll bands Kid Rock AC DC before covid he had a festival he would invite a bunch of rock bands to Hank Williams Junior got his style from rock and roll bands he's not talking about rock and roll LOL speaking of if you're just into guitar check out that song called Hog Wild the way he can make that guitar talk it's crazy
Although a hidden track, this is one of my favorite Hank Jr songs. Just imagining an Country Outlaw walking into his old bar that has been turned into a punk/discothèque is hilarious. RIP Toby.
You have to remember Jr was raised to be a star. He was raised to be Hank Sr., because people weren’t ready to let Sr go. They put him on stage, and on the road performing at age 8. So he performed with and learned from all of the great OG country artists. Around his teen years he decided that he didn’t want to be in his daddy’s shadow anymore, he wanted to find his own sound. He started leaning into more of the rhythm and blues, southern rock, and many other influences. Which is where the song Family Tradition comes into play. Really look at the lyrics and you’ll understand the song and meaning a whole lot more! Bocephus just wanted to be himself, and he combined all that he learned from all of the great artists and musicians that he traveled and performed with throughout his life and made it into his own style. Digging into his back story you’ll realize he’s a very complex artist and he has an amazing arsenal of musical talents, vocal and instrumental. Bocephus is a very talented, and one of a kind artist, that I don’t think we’ll ever see again. However, I do love that all of his children who have decided to follow in his steps musically, have done so by finding their own sound and not just try to be a copy of their father and grandfather. Hank 3 is a great example of this…he looks and sounds just like Hank Sr, has the rebel vibe of Bocephus, but created his own style and lane with his music. (Sorry for being so long winded 😂)
I hear this from alot of people but I genuinely dont think Hank 3 sounds anything like Hank. His voice has a very nasally/throaty kind of tone that just isnt there at all with Hank, and when he hits high notes you can really see the stark contrast in their voices. The album Men with Broken Hearts, where recordings of Hank are played alongside Jr and 3 covering his songs, makes this really obvious having them played side by side.
Yes he's talking about the Disco stuff and back when rap was first coming out they were starting to hang disco balls and some of them old clubs that used to play in you know how it goes when change comes people kick and fight but it changes anyway LOL of course Hank Williams Junior is not talking bad about rock and roll he got his style from rock and roll
I think the "Longhorn" he was talking about is the Louisiana Longhorn , which is on the border of Texas and Louisiana. They have real bull riding in the building. It does look like a spaceship , the last time I was in there.
I was the right age when it was all about and I was a dinosaur. I brought I strongly recommend you check out Hank Williams Junior they call me bocephus.
Dinosaur was one of my favorites that my friend and I would listen to in our youth. I wish someone would react to his song "All in Alabama". If you don't know the significance of what that song's about, watch the video of Toby Keith performing "Country Boy Can Survive" and they explain the life altering event that "All in Alabama" is about.
When I was 10 years old I would sit through this album a few times a week while my dad would play it waiting for my turn to play my Black Sabbath We sold our souls for rock and roll album. We only had the one turntable and I would go to sleep listening to Sabbath on the couch in our den.I ended up falling in love with this album and other outlaw country albums back then because of that.
Lol,yeah I played my Sabbath and Maiden when pops wasn’t home or asleep..lol.I learned my lesson one day when my sisters were playing Ted Nugent’s Wang dang sweet poontang off of the Double Live Gonzo album and my dad walked in from work and heard the lyrics and he took the record off the turn table and broke it with the heel of his cowboy boot and said “don’t ever play this shit in my house again!” Lol😂
Thank you for doing this reaction - and really paying attn to the lyrics! I’ve requested this on many many reaction channels, have seen toe maybe three now with yours. I would say this is my fav hank song - but I say that about all of them
I've been through them all & I liked them all except maybe disco, pop, & mumble rap. My current groove is the Dead South. They describe their genre as punk bluegrass. Check out I am a Broken Cowboy.
I highly, highly, highly suggest Ghoultown-Drink with the living dead.I know Keith would dig the shit out of it.Imagine Marty Robbins,Johnny Cash and the Misfits molded together to create an amazing sound with exceptional story telling.
The Longhorn is an old bar, all wooden, bucking horse in the middle, just on the Louisiana side of the Texas border. He used to play there, or at least hang out there from what family has told me. And yes, they redid the place years ago and it’s terrible. This last hurricane finally did it in, but they took all the original charm outta the long, wooden bar
That bourbon sounds really good. Luckily my local store sells it. You've probably looked up how much it costs, but my store here in Louisiana sells it for about $80.
See, I love David Bowie, but when it started it made me think of Ziggy Stardust. Which I can see Hank Jr looking at David during his Ziggy days and writing this song. But you are right, every generation can relate... but those with an ear, will find something out of each generation that is awesome. Thanks guys. 10 year here is 79.00
Keith... I've been looking for a response to your wrong species remark but I can't find the words... I keep laughing. May I suggest a ladies day on the channel. I would love to meet the ladies who deal with you two. David, Great song choice and apparently great bourbon.
Sad day for country music with passing of Toby Keith, like a lot of others left us way to early in life R.I.P. 😢. Hey guy's if at all possible play the song "HEAVEN CAN'T BE FOUND" a really good traditional country song by Hank Williams Jr. Great song think you will enjoy it. Thanks
I see a lot of requests for you guys to do another Toby Keith reaction. If you DO decide to do that, in light of his recent demise, I've a request of my own. All the attention seems to go to his later catalog, after he carved out that macho niche for himself. Love those, don't get me wrong, but before that he wrote some sweet songs, love songs, and sad songs that are overlooked. Could you maybe knock the dust off a couple of those? Maybe, "Who's That Man Living My Life?" "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This" or even "We Were In Love."
He's mocking Punk and Disco and the movement it brought in, not the Bee Gees, they were around over 10 years before anyone heard the name Disco (LOL). A director aske them to make songs for his movie, then told them it was a Dance movie, so they gave him up beat songs, nit Disco songs, they did nit like that tag later on, but they rode the success and profits, of course.
The reason hank jr wears the full beard and dark glasses it's to hide the scaring from the seventeen surgeries he had on his scull and reconstruction surgery on his face from a 500 foot fall off of a mountain on august 8th 1975
Vine & Table is closing. We're super sad about that, because they've been incredible to work with both for you guys, and for us. Dustin is trying to work out an arrangement with another store across town. It won't be easy, because V&T set such a high bar for cooperation and customer service both with our viewers, and with us. - Keith
@@BourbonCountryReacts ok that sucks because they were really good. I will have to get the other stuff I plan on sending from the Calumet website but I really liked getting stuff from Vine&table
I'm kinda embarrassed, but Disco/Pop groups are kinda my guilty pleasure at times. Not all of them, or even most of them, but there are several groups that I don't want to like, but I can't help enjoying them! I think the biggest would be ABBA. I hope I haven't lost ALL of your respect lol! I want to laugh and make fun of them, but when I hear songs like "The Winner Takes It All", "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!", or "Waterloo" I can't help myself but enjoy them! Maybe it's just me being a sucker for Female Vocals because it's a similar feeling I get listening to The Carpenters!
Any Hank Song i9s good, and the review was fine as always, but Vine & Table closing really sucks! Good luck in finding a new Bourbon Dealer Dustin, I'm tired of the Snafus when I send you a bottle or two. I don't quit or stop easily when I enjoy the show, so I may have to jump on the Norton Commando and deliver it myself. Heh, heh that'll take the knees out for sure, kick start only! The Amelas One
If you are going to pay attention to lyrics, you should really listen to the American way and Johnny Reb by hank jr . The American way is just a fun one, and Johnny Reb relates to today’s politics just as much as it did, when the song was put out. Gas prices, beef etc. Dixie on my mind another fun one
