Hannibal has a lot of tonal changes with the plot that a lot of people didn't like. I felt this one was trying to have more action and didn't let the unsettling aspects stew and let it build. I enjoyed it but it had diminishing returns from the first movie.

I watched this when I was too young to comprehend it, but that end scene with Ray Liotta eating his own brain scarred me for life.

I wish they DID keep the book's ending! I liked the concept of Clarice running off with Hannibal. THAT was shocking when I read the "Krendler scene" in the book and a few chapters later there was a Hannibal sighting at an opera in a South American country (forget which, and not switching screens to look up) and who was his companion? Clarice! I wasn't disgusted not one bit by the relationship, but saw it as a natural (even though unexpected) progression from where we found them upon first meeting and all through their interactions of the whole length of SotL and Hannibal. They had a certain chemistry that led down that path. There's an old saying that goes: You dance with the devil and you're not gonna change him- he'll change you.

I always liked this movie. It’s obviously inferior to Silence but I thought it was better than Red Dragon to be honest. The only thing I really don’t like is they changed the ending from the book. I thought the book’s ending was a great conclusion.

You thought it was great that Clarice decided she was in love with Hannibal Lecter?
@jtstevenson81

@@nickm8874 Yeah, I don't buy that ending at all and I am glad Ridley Scott chose to change it. It would be completely inconsistent with Clarice's character to do such a thing.

Perfect recap. I didn’t feel like watching the film and now that I’ve seen your vid, I realise Hannibal’s third season incorporated this and made it better

The thumbnail reminds me of the same character from the show when he's cutting up his face and feeding it to the dogs 😂

Excellent makeup for Gary Oldman. Julianne Moore was a good Clarice. This movie had some great scenes.

Great analysis! The one thing I wanted to add is that the boars ignored Lecter and attacked the henchman (and eventually Mason) because the boars were genetically modified to attack people based on fear. Frivelous plan when you consider who Verger is dealing with.

Honestly I liked the movie most when it's focused on Hannibal as he had a more screen time in the movie and I enjoyed it cause you can never get enough of Hannibal Lecter
@NitPickz

Definitely an oddity in this series. And there's several things omitted from the book, as well as added in. The ending, obviously, is not how it is in the book and another major difference is that Verger's sister is not in the film. Though they probably had a good reason why... Also, Verger is not killed by boars in the book and Barney has a more substantial role, which was likely reduced since Verger's sister is kept out. The TV show at least shows the sister aspect of the book, though it's not directly following the book. Basically, the translation from the book to screen is pretty complicated. That, in my opinion, would be fixed in the next film. And, yes, I have read the books. Definitely worth reading if you're into the macabre.

Were there boars in the book at all? They are the one aspect that feel so out of left field for me, I'm trying to make sense of them haha.
@NitPickz

@@HamburgersHorror I think there are boars in the book, but they don't get the chance to use them when Lecter escapes.

As far back as I can remember, I always wanted 'Cornpone, Country P###y' Cue Rags to Riches 🤣 Interestingly it was Liotta's idea, if I remember it correctly, to include the brain eating scene. In the behind the scenes, Liotta had seen a real surgery documentary and wanted to do that. Personally I think Hannibal is on the lower half of the ranking lists and it's not hard to see why. This movie didn't have the urgency that the better films have and utilise to amp up tension. But I like the weirdness and while no Foster, Julianne Moore is a good stand in Starling. I like the eerie classy credits music, If that's not Hannibal esq I don't now what is. Thank you for looking at the movie and I am looking forward to 976 evil.

While I didn't love every strange decision made here, I definitely respect the weirdness! The movie is anything but generic.
@roguebritgravy1
@roguebritgravy1 2 года назад
@@HamburgersHorror if under a different execution and the same subtlety as Silence, I could see the weirder elements like the Pazzi Death, the human hungry boars and the brain in the same universe as silence of the Lambs with the skin suit, head in a jar and Jame Gumb dance. Definetly not generic. Also it was a good point you made about seeing Hannibal as a free man. This is the only Movie (as a adult) we see where he is free and how he acts outside of a cell. I hadn't realised that before.

This is random but I want a story of “Evelda” the character should of have a bigger role and more back story maybe she had insight on the streets and could connect Hannibal and Clarice some way
