Imagine that there may have been black soldiers in the Operation Kino, and Landa made the President to give them congressional honors the same as white soldiers. With this action, Landa proved to be more anti-racist than the President himself.

ShaneTheSlayer he was a great character and a great villain, one that even people like me who aren't violent would be towards him! This movie was so good and well thought out like the meeting they had in the bar with the actress and how they were given away by just the way Americans and Germans hold up their fingers for 3! so small but yet so big cause it revealed em! I love Quentin Tarantino's work cause there's all this stuff that like u have to watch several times to see all the stuff he puts in, even of them smallest details.

Only those who were useful (like Von Braun for his rocketry expertize). Top Nazi brass needed to be publicly punished as an example for other potential troublemakers throughout the world (Nuremberg), also some of the most extreme documented lower-rank war criminals. This is where Landa would fall. The allies would have gone back on their promise to provide him with anything once Hitler is dead, and had Aldo killed Landa too, no one would have cared on the Allied side. Landa's involvement would have either been omitted from histories or his death would have been explained in some way.

When Landa says "I look forward to seeing you face to face as well", one can only assume right before Landa says this that Harvey Keitel's character said to Landa "I can't wait to see your face", because Keitel knows that once Landa surrenders to Aldo Raine he's going to have the Nazi symbol carved into his forehead. Landa, not knowing what Keitel meant when he says, "I can't wait to see your face", responds with, "I look forward to seeing you face to face as well". Absolutely brilliant writing.

I'd love to know how exactly Hans lived out his remaining days on Nantucket Island. No one would've wanted to associate with a man that had a swastika carved into his forehead, whether he ended the war or not. Prolly would've died from depression, maybe even gotten lynched by an angry American mob.

nahor88 more likely this was the scenario: Aldo and the little man were shot for treason (not to mention war crimes) because they not only mutilated someone the US AND UK made a deal with, they also killed a surrendered person accompanying said person of interest. The best surgeons would remove the scars from Landa's forehead, and they could do so with such remarkable results that one would not even be able to see any scars on his forehead. Even the worst case scenario is that he might have something akin to a burn mark on his forehead. Then Landa lived the rest of his life in peace and harmony with a fat bank account that never ran dry. As spiteful as you might want to be towards the guy, civilized people honor their deals. If word got out that the US didn't, the next conflict they face can only be ended through bloodshed.

You can tell by the level of detail of his demands (including the real estate on Nantucket Island) that Landa has really though this through. It is clear he has been thinking about this for a long time. You have to wonder if maybe he intentionally didn't catch the Basterds earlier because he saw them as an escape route if the Third Reich wasn't going to pan out? Maybe he even started to think about it when he didn't shoot at Shoshana?

I think he was making it up as he went along. He was a fast thinker and as soon as he sniffed them out at the reception he made the mental calculation on the spot that it would be very easy for him to either foil their plot or to ensure its success, and that with the Nazis losing the war he personally had more to gain from the latter than from the former. He probably decided that before he murdered Bridget Von Hammersmark, and definitely before he had Raine and Utivich arrested. I have zero doubt that if they and the general had refused to deal with him he'd have called the theater and exposed the plot, lying and saying he only just learned of it by interrogating Raine.

I just had the idea that Landa's life after the war would make a great sequel for Inglorious Basterds. The plot would focus on his life in (Nantucket?) maybe 18 years or so after the war ended (so 1962 or 63). He might appear to just be a rich, quirky old recluse (with an unsightly scar on his forehead) living a monotonous existence until....someone from his Nazi past shows up to blackmail or taunt him. Maybe even have a tie in with the plot to assassinate Kennedy? The big question (to be answered at the end) might be: did Landa truly repent or is he still his old evil self? Maybe it is too late for this? But maybe not. Hopefully QT will read this and be inspired.

+Scoonertuna lol that's ridiculous. They're toppling the third Reich and with it being the victor of world war 2. What greater benefit can one possible have that that? How is Hans the only one to benefit? How many Allied, civilian as well as Axis lives will be saved from prematurely ending the war in this way? Why do you think America bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it was seen as a "necessary evil", a means an end". Lots of people will disagree with it and say it's not the "done thing" but after it was seen how many souls were lost in operation overlord in France. They didn't want a repeat. So how many lives were saved from not having an allied invasion of Japan? A means to an end..
@Scoonertuna
@Scoonertuna 8 лет назад
JoshD1001 The man is strong arming everyone and bending them to his will. Toppling the Third Reich is solely his chip to benefit himself. Pure and simple. He sees an opportunity to benefit himself and, along with it, get everyone’s hands dirty with compromise and deception. Perhaps, this was his ultimate act of cruelty. Hans is the only one who benefits from this because he can always put his evil deeds behind him. Also, this is a piece of fiction. He prematurely ended the war in a fictitious sense. The war did not end this way, no matter what nitpickers, conspiracy theorists, etc. Say. Do not compare fictitious events to actual events. This is a movie. Aldo and his companion hate the deal because they are compromising themselves and making a deal with a Nazi, a hated Nazi, who is walking away "squeaky clean". Hans thinks he knows how the world works and always stakes the decks in his favor. Aldo proves to him that, no matter how much in control you think you are, in the end you cannot cover everything.

Yeah, Raine knew exactly what he could and couldn't get away with. Nobody was going to care that he shot a worthless corporal or tortured an SS colonel and war criminal, but they'd be furious if he killed such a valuable intelligence asset before they could interrogate him. It's pretty clear that Raine would have preferred to kill Landa deal or no deal, but he wasn't going to ruin his own life to do it.

Because he was under the assumption that the US government was as authoritarian as Nazi Germany's was. That's also why when Aldo breaks the deal and shoots Herman, he immediately says that Aldo "will be shot for this", because, in Nazi Germany, if you disobey orders, you die

Firstly, Landa is the type to hold a lot of weight on the value of deals. He probably left the French farmers from the beginning alone, and is clearly distraught when Hermann is killed by Aldo in the finale. Secondly, Landa made the mistake of thinking Aldo saw him as an equal, with their various subordinates basically being pawns. Aldo just saw Landa as a Nazi who was valuable, but still just a Nazi who was just as deserving of a swastika carved onto his forehead. And another reason why Landa failed to anticipate Hermann being shot and getting a branded with swastika is that he doesn’t plan ahead. As an opportunist, he is concerned with his immediate well-being instead of his long term one. Sure, his demands could’ve been thought up after some time, but he never thought to plan his demands very carefully, down to every minute instance and detail. For the situation with Aldo, the other mistakes I previously mentioned play into why his escape from Germany with his radio operator, Aldo, and Utivich goes awry.
@axelblomb6471
@axelblomb6471 2 года назад
@@machirim2805 i beg to differ, Landa didn't anticipate Hermann getting killed and him getting a swatiska,. Because the Nazi chain of command is very strict, a soldier must obey a superior or else he subjects himself fo death, hence why Landa says to Aldo "you're gonna get shot dead" also Landa is a perfectionist he plans and anticipate every detail, he already knew the 3 Italians were basterd since he picked up the actress highheels at the tavern + because they were expensive and not many people could afford those , he knew mishammemarks was a traitor and the italians were spies, he just wanted to catch her in the act of lying to satisfy his ego. He could have slaughtered both mishammermark and the 3 italians but since he knew the 3rd reich was coming to an end he chose to use them as an escape from nuremberg trial + possible torture or execution.

If you're referring to all the awards on his uniform, that's simply due to it being a formal occasion, thereby requiring full dress uniform with all awards.
