@@laurenhazlett6327 Yeah I saw an interview with Villeneuve where he said he wasn't sure if he was ready to do the project yet and he was talking to Zimmer about it because they're both huge Dune fans and Zimmer said "You have to do it! If I do it will you do it?" and Villeneuve said yes he would. So that's how we got Dune 2020.

This is an exception to the cliche. They had DAMNED good reason to pull down some Floyd for this movie. There is almost 50 years of history here... going all the way back to Jodorowsky getting Floyd to agree to score his first attempt (That never got out of pre-production) to adapt Dune. Dune and Floyd have been tied together for decades, this trailer is the first time it actually _happened_. So rather than a cliche, this was a nod to hardcore fans that know the history. And it's Pink Floyd. Who the hell can bitch about Pink Floyd?!? ;)

Just because something has become cliche doesn't make it any less effective. The problem with many copycats is not that they mimic, it is that they don't understand why the form they've mimicked worked in the first place. They superficially borrow the idea, but deliver nothing of substance.

@@bighands69 We've gotten better, sure. Not good enough to halt climate change on a significant basis before it became a massive problem both for humans and wildlife. Even when the writing was on the wall in 10 foot letters. As for the plastics in the ocean - which is terrible but probably a smaller scale problem than climate change, which will lead to many more permanent extinctions - I'm not sure where you think my complaints are going. To China for dumping it? For America and the west sending it there to dump because they don't want to pay to dispose of it properly? China has banned the import of most plastic waste. So either the rest of the world will have to do the right thing or, more likely, just figure out some other country desperate for cash to pass it off to and then turn a blind eye.

Syd Barret deserves almost all the credit. If it wasn't for his loss Rogers never would had created this masterpiece. I'm glad Dune is getting a Pink Floyd-esque soundtrack considering the original film was supposed to have them.

"The Incal" and "The Metabarons" are two comics written by Jodorowsky with almost everything weird and unique he wanted to put in his film. Its definitely worth the purchase.

They're both about drugs!

The lyrics fit the sci fi theme as well as the theme of Paul's acceptance of his destiny. It's just perfect.

Jodorowsky's film was never going to get made - ambitious would be an understatement. If he had his own funding he could have done it - alas making big films requires big money, and you need to convince people that their investment will come back to them at the very least.

And now he's hating this movie.

@@jaswati It's more like he finds the movie trailer to be boring. I must say he's quite right. I was underwhelmed. Denis Villeneuve's work in Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 is incredible. I mean Jodorowsky does have a right to be bitter when all his work for Dune went into the creation of some of the best sci-fi films created. Give the old man break because honestly he has ever reason to be bitter. He is an arthouse film director after all.

Anyways, there is no necessity for it but he did talk about Villeneuve's Dune and measured it with his own so the bitterness comes out of it an unfulfilled dream. He is such a passionate man that you only want the best for him. Btw, be proud that your Latin American. The nations in your continent has produced some crazy works of magical realism. The original (PF) also has power in it, but different. Maybe more neutral, however this is something I will buy as a soundtrack and would like to see it in the theatre. However, that may be hard in these times.

Pink Floyd were lined up to do the soundtrack of a previously abandoned version. So Hans is really really delving into the history of the soundtracks.

This shows me that they are VERY well aware of the weight of history on their shoulders. I went from gaurdedly optimistic based on interviews and hearing Villenueve say what I wanted to hear... to riding the worm to hypetown because of this.

Paul Atraides is a character who, as the story of Dune develops, is seen as a Messianic figure by the people of Dune, a deliver , a conquer, a savior. Paul becomes idolized as a prophet by the Fremen, and is named Maud’Dib. Paul has become a spiritual leader of the Fremen, and his mother the new Reverend Mother. Indeed, the second book in Frank Herberts series is actually called, "Dune- Messiah." The decision by the director/producer of Dune to include the Pink Floyd song "Eclipse" whether by accident or by design has lyrics which are parrell with scripture of Matthew 7:12 *"So in everything you do, do unto others what you would have them do unto you, for this sums up ALL the Law and the Prophets."* In other words....whatever you do in life to others, whether it be to love, hate, steal, create, destroy , slight, fight...(as expressed in the lyrics), ....has far reaching effects on those around us. OUR actions and the way we treat others is what makes the world a better or a worse place to live. I know some people will strongly disagree with this interpretation, and that's fine. But it is apparent to me Christ and Paul Atreides are two Messianic characters whose mission in life was to bring enlightenment and peace to a universe of evil and death. The only difference between these two messianic figures was that one was based on events in fiction while the other was based on events in real life.

It was a conversation between Hans and Denis that led to the film being made in the first place. Denis wasn't sure if he was going to do the project (or something to that effect) and Hans said "You have to do it. If I do it with you will you do it?" And Denis said yes. So it was less about Hans being Denis' first choice and more about Denis being Hans' first choice.

I would imagine Johann Johannson being dead (which sucks, the man's talent was amazing) rather put a crimp on the idea.
