I spoke to a tunnel rat. He said one guy on his squad went down with a crookneck flashlight and a .38. A while later, he came scrambling up through the hole, covered in gore, threw down the gear, and said to his co, I'm never doing that again. Went back to the barracks and refused to tell anyone what happened.
I'm imagining them fighting, and idk who would win. But in terms of who had it worse? Hanzee absolutely no doubt, he had to go into those tunnels alone, not knowing ANYTHING about what's down there waiting. Whereas Tommy had an entire team with him, and they were the ones doing the digging, had lanterns to see, and didn't need to worry about booby traps with every step.
Ey Tommeh d'y'know wot, we should let this 'Anzeh lad join our diverse gang o semi-immortal raggamuffins, by order of the Peaky fookin Bloinders n all that. Ee's got the fookin plot twists for it, asn't he?
@@ericcloud1023 yeah it's still really hard to compare because the scope of ww1 is a bit differend than Vietnam. WWI was so massive scale bloodshed in very differend way that it would be hard to say without actually going thru both experiences 😅 WWI also went for one year longer. Also I would argue that there is benefits and bad sides on being with other people, say there is some complete dummy who doesn't know when to shut the f'up etc. But yeah it's hard to say. We don't even know how long and many missions either really had, in Tommy's side it seems like he didn't barely see sun the whole time but yeah especially Hanzee's backstory is explaines quite vaquely (not that Tommy's isn't) to go and compare who had it worse.
@@JohnSmith-gb5vg An important distinction to make, usually. However, look up Tiger Force war crimes and you'll find the Army's Criminal Investigation Command produced and then proceeded to hide a dossier on the extensive war crimes committed by the unit. Here's some of what they did: Murdered and cut the ears off of innocent men, women, and children and wore them as necklaces. Drugged, raped, and executed a young mother. Murdered a separate mother, and then killed and decapitated her infant child. Practiced collecting the scalps of both slain combatants and innocent civilians. Over decades of investigations revealed extensive war crimes against civilian populations that numbered into the hundreds.
@@squamish4244 so do the Gurkhas in WWII....British officers doubted their claims of numbers of Nazis killed behind the lines in the North African desert during their night time patrols, so the Gurkhas began bringing back two bags, one full of blood left ears, one full of bloody right ones. Doubts about their claims of KIAs vanished.
