Two months ago we got our 2005 Northern Lite 10-2000 with a wet bath. Since then we have made numerous repairs that had to be done in order for us to camp. One of the most important repairs (to us) was the Happijacs. The ones that came with it were old and weren't working. The wired remote control that originally came with it had been lost by the previous owner along the way before we purchased it. We decided to send the motor heads back to the factory to have them refurbished. During this process we also decided to order a wireless remote control and module to go with them.
In this video we show how we removed the old motor heads to send them back and how we re-installed the rebuilt ones once we received them back from Happijac.

You need to get the whit caps to cover the manual crank holes and put O ring around the plastic square piece that goes in the leg to help keep water out .

Air compressor with rubber tip and hold it firm in the little hole on bottom of motor and shoot air and that motor cover will pop right off .

Might be a good idea to use some dielectric grease on the jack motor connectors. Even though they are in a weather proof case.

They say you can not oil the worm gear from putting a heavy oil I used Lucas oil stabilizer which is real thick and with you motor tops pour the oil in top of leg half full if you over fill it might deep out of the lever holes or the little plug and I put screw gun on and rand it up and down and it did lube the worm gear .so don’t take them all apart to oil because it makes it’s way down threw leg. That big funny looking gear is you clutch and if you hear it slipping just tighten it one full turn. I think the book says 13 ft pounds .

Sir, I see you have your camper mounted on cinder blocks. My grandfather always warned me to never use cinder blocks to hold up a vehicle. He knew someone who was gravely injured because the cinder blocks he used collapsed while the gentleman was working under the car propped up with blocks. I only say this out of concern for everyone's safety. Thanks for so many great videos.

The blocks are correctly installed. The webs/cell walls are vertical and strong as apposed to horizontal which can be crushed.

You can poor concrete in the cinder block cells to strengthen them (if you put the jacks on them horizontally)

If you finish that part take the long worm gear out and clean the best you can the clean shaft up and rub that long drive screw with regular grease and run it up and down to get grease on that long screw shaft and it will run like crazy and not turn off it will run like new because nobody does it because the sell it in 5 yrs and now it’s your job !

Just remember on your plastic gears use only lithium grease it will be white grease any other grease will melt your plastic gears .

Would dry spray graphite on the worm screw work better than grease because will pick up a lot of dust and rust. Myself I love Amsoil synthetic grease and it will not wash and like you said will not kick on any type of a long pull and it shuts 2-3 times but after the grease it would run them all and not kick and reset them a lot .

I just have a question about your Casita. I’m looking at buying a Casita for my first time camping by myself. I am a 63 single female that has never set a camper up by myself. Did you find the Casita easy to set up? And did you find food odors a problem with the Casitas lining?

bossywassy yes it was very easy to set up and also easy to tow. We really didn't have any issues with food odors but we mostly cooked outside. It was a little tight for two and our big dog 😁

Looks like a professional job to me . you should hook the jacks tothe clapper then you dont need the remote . just kidding ha ha .

@Bart Davis we paid less than $5k for it. We are going to do a future video on our costs and the cost of the repairs so we are kind of keeping that a secret for now 😁 The camper was in pretty rough shape and we think it may not have even been worth what we paid considering all the work we put in it. It's done now and hindsight is 20/20 I guess 😁👍. Definitely look for water damage in the basement. I believe I've heard several people say the older Northern Lites were notorious for this if they are kept outside. Thank you for watching! Good luck in your search.

Runaway Roses thanks for the information, my good friend bought the same model and vintage after watching your video, he has the floor back in and basically did what you have done. He paid 9,000$ We just bought one this week after losing out on several. We paid 12,000$ but the floor is ok.

The controller was about $250 and to refurbish the motors was $60 each. Plus the shipping cost.

What brand paint and color name/code did you use?

Truck Camper Canada we just used the white Rust-Oleum spray paint on the jacks, bumper and steps and it matches just fine. I don't have the color code but it was the white gloss.

Since there are no replacement motors out there, I thought I'd just convert it back to a manual system. Remote jacks... what a con. You buy a drill attachment for $12.00 from Amazon and you're suddenly turning the Jack's five times faster. Wish I had never paid for those slow-ass remote jacks.

I thought he said they sent them back to happijac. Happijac use to rebuild the struts and after calling them direct I was informed that service isn't provided any longer. Bummer my two up front do not work worth a damn.
