On this day in 1975, Steven Spielberg's shark classic JAWS was released becoming the first movie to make $100million.... in just 38 days.... creating the summer blockbuster, changing cinema (and sharks) forever.
Saw it in the theater in Maryland at age 9.5 back then... it was a life changer! I was obsessed with the movie, sharks, and the making of the movie from then on....
Happy Jaws day. I was 10 years old when I saw this. I wasn’t allowed to see it because of the PG. but I persisted. I went with my Brother to see it and wow I was Hooked. This movie means so much to me. It’s the greatest movie ever for me and always will be. So happy 49th to Jaws. And to all who love this movie as much as I do🦈🎞️
The "Rated PG" at the end just absolutely encapsulates the 70's American attitude toward violence in movies. "God made the devil and gave him... JAWS. Rated PG"
Saw it a month later in my hometown. July 24th 1975 for me! But man, what a ride! 🦈Seeing it again next Sunday at my local theater! Georgia Theater Company has this thing called Flashback Cinema, and they show older classics in select theaters around the state on Sundays and Tue/Wed. It's the big J next weekend!!! 🤓On the big screen again! One more year to 50 and utter hell breaks loose! I wonder what is gonna start happening between now and then! Enjoy the year, all! 😜🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈- O!
I still vividly recall the anticipation and stir of excitement JAWS created upon its release. It went across the entire globe. I was 9 yrs old and completely intrigued by JAWS. I of course wasn't allowed to see the film by my parents. It was many years later I finally got to see it on TV. I so wish Hollywood was still making films like JAWS that whipped up an excitement and anticipation for movie fans ,but sadly no modern films even come close.
Good Call. I started my annual JAWS binge last night with the Anniversary documentary (the 2 hour version). Tonight, as per Tradition (john Williams won his first oscar arranging the music for 'fiddler on the roof') i am watching JAWS tonight. followed by JAWS 2, Jaws 3, then due to no other film in the franchise i will end the binge with Jaws 4. I want to see a Jaws: the five families. a mob story taken from the Jaws Book by Peter B. so it would be Canon. thanks for the timely drop. now to watch this trailer then the movie God Bless
Trailer's "dated" slightly, wouldn't call a shark doing what a shark does "The devil" Power, Curruption & Lies of a self-centred "Spin doctoring" suit ? Now we're talkin Chief
