23:50 FACT CHECK - Carbon dioxide (CO2) makes up about 0.04% of the Earth's atmosphere. However, the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere fluctuates with the seasons. During the Northern Hemisphere's spring and summer, CO2 levels drop as plants consume the gas. In the fall and winter, CO2 levels rise as plants die and decay. Not many people know that as I have shown asking around - 0.04% - 419 parts PER MILLION ! by the way QUOTE "Concentrations of CO 2 in the atmosphere were as high as 4,000 ppm during the Cambrian period about 500 million years ago, and as low as 180 ppm during the Quaternary glaciation of the last two million years." There is a £34 Billion Black Hole set to appear in the future and I dread the future for our Children/Grandchildren after the gigantic **-astronomical-** costs Covid19 has caused. Wasn't DVD the fastest accepted media at the time? Recall CDs took a while to disrupt vinyl - but even that made a comeback. Bluray was subsidised by Sony as part of their PS3 onwards - they dropped it eventually. Coming back to cars. I always coveted a diesel - but I didn't do enough mileage to offset the higher initial cost. Petrol works Well for me. When I looked at replacement for the Mrs car the electrics were from £40k upwards. Apparently they burn fuel in a mini ICE to power the hybrid motor. Or I could get a fully battery version from £50k and to make it a bit cheaper I could.install a high voltage charger on my drive and get solar.on my roof. Got a CX5 petrol. Lovely car. £22k 2nd hand. £30k gets me 25k l fuel from Costco. That's about 250000 miles at current mpg. In other words I might break even in 20 years.

I see an increase in the leasing of used vehicles in an effort to get a second bite at the cherry before the cars hit the auctions and 'bomb out'... There's a lot wrong in the trade just now but parasitic companies exist in every industry - an equalling of miseries. Despite the billions in public money poured into subsidies for EV's most manufacturers can't make money on them and are now screaming at Brussels to revisit the time line and strategy for EVs. When they are made well enough and cheaply enough people will no doubt buy them without being forced to do so.
@petersimmons3654
@petersimmons3654 23 часа назад
Well you understand nothing. What 'public money poured into subsidies'? The manufacturers have paid grants to assist growth in sales, 8 years ago I bought a 2 year old Leaf and Nissan paid £1,000 towards the cost. Then the dealership bought it back as they had a buyer, and I bought a newer one. First two years cost me nothing except insurance. My 2 year old Leaf cost me £10,000, a third of the new price, which is of course paid by people who can afford it, and can afford to lose in price drop. Same as ICE vehicles, it's all the same trade. No subsidies for EVs from government, so stop whining about a lie.

EVs make perfect sense for about 15% of car owners. Those who can afford one, with off-street parking and daily usage within the real range of the vehicle. In California, EV sales are 26.7% of all passenger vehicles. This would be the extreme upper range (generous incentives and very extensive charging infrastructure).

If California was a country, it would be the 6th largest economy in the world. Most of the population is in three large conurbations, San Diego, LA and San Francisco. In the UK I have never seen a EV fire. But the simpletons who hate them talk constantly about fires, which in EVs are a tiny minority of the hubndreds of thousands of ICE fires annually. It's about 250 annually for EVs. But don't let facts get in your way.
@GT380man

Has your new iPhone really lost 8% of its capacity in just a year? I expect they don’t lose capacity in a straight line manner. I’d expect an exponential, so that a certain % of Januarys capacity is lost to the next January, but it’ll be a reducing % of original capacity when new. Same basic algebra as radioactive decay. From the little I know of battery electrochemistry, the rate of loss of capacity turns more on number of cycles than age. Usage & storage are also very important, but all else held equal, number of cycles is single most important factor. This is people are shy of especially USED EVs. Range when brand new is one thing. But buy one that several years old and you have a major uncertainty. Has this car been used & stored in ways that have preserved the greatest amount of capacity? Or the very opposite? The answer could be the difference between your car becoming suddenly worthless, or not. That uncertainty kills interest until the used prices are so low that you’ll accept the uncertainty. Unfortunately, that isn’t a business. In business, those in each of all essential stages must make a profit that represents a reward for the risks shouldered.

If you've decided to not want an EV, you're perfectly free to not get one, without having a used car salesman elaborate on why falling prices on used cars (yes _all_ used cars) are bad for used car salesmen. Either 1) EVs will continue to put pressure on car prices (new and used), which will benefit everyone except used car salesmen. Or 2) EVs will not put any further pressure on car prices, in which case there will be no change from today. Logically, the only reason to worry or care is if you're a used car salesman who believes EVs are sufficiently better/cheaper to disrupt the existing ICE vehicle market. If that's not you, you've got nothing to worry about.

Fuel savings compared to my previous diesel Golf: £5,100 (I do a lot of miles, it helps with the price differential between the fuel types). Expected life. Who knows? I run cars until they need replacing, not very 3 years. I can soak up a lot of depreciation over the life that way, plus the car saves over £1,000 a year in fuel. Battery life? No real idea, I’ve not had an official test done. By looking at real life driving numbers it’s around 90%, so about 2-3 % drop a year. Repairs? £650 so far. Mainly a gearbox actuator needed replacing. Nothing on the EV side of things……yet. Wheels? Tyres need replacing about 10% more frequently than my Golf. Pads and discs are fine, no sign they need replacing yet. Pro-EV? Yes and no. I also drive a diesel (not the Golf, that got sold). Love both, happy with both. EVs do a good job where they fit and are adequate in scenarios where ICE is superior.

1.2 million EVs in the UK, 35 million ICE, so garages have plenty of work and are not equipped for working on high voltage - and are happy to stay that way. Its logical that ICE drivers are nervous to move to BEV because there are a lot more people slating the EVs than those who can provide a real experience of an EV - its human nature to reject change - and that's not restricted to vehicles - it applies to everything - just look at planning permission - a builder wants to build a small number of houses - and everyone objects saying lack of infrastructure, not enough NHS services, roads cant cope, increased traffic, lack of schools etc etc - what they really mean is they don't want new houses spoiling their view - so you have to take objections with a pinch of salt. The lies tend to be spread about EVs by so many people that haven't a clue how their car works - many drivers cant even open their bonnet - so they are swayed by someone telling them in an authoritative way BEVs are dangerous, unreliable, will let them down, too few chargers - and energy use is expensive - the EV owners are lying to everyone - so the truth of this is EVs do indeed devalue quicker than an ICE vehicle - just like ICE did when horses were the common form of transport. It makes no difference to me whatever type of energy propels your car, buy what you like - its your money you're choice. OK you want facts? I bought an EV paid £53000 - my money no finance in 2021 - its value according to Autotrader averages is circa £27000 - so Its cost me £26000 in just about 4 years, £6500 per year Charging at home at 26p per Kwhr and lets take average miles of 8000 - that's costing £520 (charge at 8p per Kwhr - special EV tariff that's £160) Average of 35mpg at £5.50 per gallon is £1257.14. EV - no annual servicing, ICE circa £400 annually. Insurance EVs are more expensive but my EV which is a model 3 performance cost me 2024 to 2025 £377 fully comp with Aviva - Im 68, retired, full NCB and 5000 per year - wife on policy too and protected NCB, Leicestershire location. HV battery - 8 years or 120,000 miles warranty, current degradation - when bought 100% charge displayed 296 mile range, now 100% indicates 295 miles. I actually did a trip a month or so ago from Leicester to Warrington and back, mainly motorways and 70mph, started with 95% charge, there and back no recharge stop - 260 miles round trip - arrived back at Leicester supercharger - 3 miles from home with 14% left. The way I see it is all forms of transport cost money, If savings were the only thing to consider we would all have a three cylinder diesel doing 60mpg plus, group 1 insurance and hopefully a very low RFL score - so £20 per year, but, we all like different things, I like performance, comfort and in particular gadgets, I really dont care the cars value has dropped £26K as im not selling it, It can accelerate to 60mph in 3 seconds, it drivers and rides superbly, My phone is my key, so just open the door and drive, it auto locks as i walk away, I can engage air con or heating remotely from my phone - and Tesla are very hard to steal. I've not had a single fault with the car and it remains pristine. Now tell me I'm misguided in buying a fully electric car, Its all about horses for courses - BEV suits me and my lifestyle - there is no absolute wrong or right. I just wish people would stop spouting absolute shite. Go buy an EV at the stupid low prices they are now second-hand, clearly you cant loose a fortune because they are cheap, live with one for a year then come back and tell us all how your experience was. Im sure your rhetoric will have changed completely. Funny thing - all non EV owners know BEVs are pants - until they actually buy one.

@@andrewwaller5913 You really are deluded Andrew if you believe a diesel is superior in every way to a BEV, granted you can fill up quicker and have a greater range on a full tank then any EV on a full charge. So average motorist drives 30 miles each day, averages 8000 miles per year - there really isn't a great deal of incentive to being able to cover 600 miles on one full tank of diesel is there? but we can agree a diesel will do that quicker and go longer. But, diesels are unrefined oil burners that rattle - especially when cold, emits lots of particulates and have to be thrashed to regen the DPF going on pointless trips whenever the amber lights illuminates - and that's rather frequent if you do local trips. They smell rather bad, Injectors don't really have a long life and hence as they wear the black smoke appears out of the tail pipe, everyone hears you leave and arrive. Your diesel cant out accelerate my battery car - its just a fact - and i don't care how expensive a diesel you have - so we have established its not quicker - 10 gallons of diesel to do, lets be generous 600 miles, so £64 - 9.4p per mile. 600 miles will consume 150Kwhrs of electricity - which on EV tariff at 8p per Kwhr is £12 or 2.5p per mile - bugger - so Diesel isn't cheaper either is it. Did I mention Road Tax has been free for me for last 4 years and although EVs pay from next April - we all just renew the tax in March and not pay until March 2026. You really don't do your homework at all do you? My Car has lost 50% of its value in 4.5 years, but, Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Porsche etc - you know quality vehicles, loose between 40 to 60% over 4 years - so not a great deal of difference over that timescale - though I do admit at the two year point the EV is 40% ish and the ICE maybe 30 to 35%. You are right its not rocket science but perhaps just a little bit of research and you wouldn't be announcing to the readership how foolish you are. And unlike you, I tend to explain the reasons for my viewpoint and back it up with the facts - you on the other hand just deliver unsubstantiated dubious statements - and like many believe they are facts - You do know facts are the truth don't you?
@andrewwaller5913
@andrewwaller5913 20 часов назад
@@Gripper-ie2qg Your EV doesn't do anything my diesel does. Your EV is more expensive, has less range, takes longer to charge and depreciation is far worse. My diesel will be on the road long after your EV is scrapped so its superior as I said. If EVs are so great why have sakes stalled at 15%, with petrol and hybrid cars increasing in sales recently? You can quote all the numbers you want but my turbo diesel is cheaper to run, easier and quicker to fill up, had far greater range and is easier to repair and service. You'll be getting rid of your EV once the electricity price goes up even more and the depreciation puts you in negative equity. So I'm not deluded but you are. Good day.

@@andrewwaller5913 I just have to reply, A car is a car - a Mini does the same job as a Veyron - but a vast difference in price, speed luxury, equipment - we also buy cars to suit our personality - so cost and how much to fill with energy isn't the only factor to consider, I've had a Mini - indeed my first car - never had a Veyron but I don't denigrate a Veyron because i cant afford it. We live in times where pretty much everything is disposable - so maybe your right in that your diesel will still be running when my battery has died - or burst into flames - and if that's your definition of superior then i guess your right - but its your viewpoint which doesn't mean its true. I don't like old bangers - never have, don't like classic cars either - so i don't want a car to live forever - remember, we are all different, no right, no wrong. EV sales have slowed and Its because they are expensive to initially buy, people are wary about the longevity of the battery, people tend to believe the lies told about EVs rather than investigate the facts, sure if you look at a Prius with 60 miles range and failing batteries after 6 years then you have a point but these were early designs with no thermal management, the naysayers don't mention the 12 year old Model S that still have 90% of original battery capacity and having covered over 250,000 miles because it doesn't suit their narrative - but its the truth - Facts. I also cant be in negative equity because i bought my car outright - for cash, £53,000 and now worth circa £27,000 - which i don't mind one iota,. A car to me is also a hobby and all hobbies cost money, I believe I'm getting good value for that money. Just one final point - you say my Tesla cant do anything you're diesel cant do - OK - try these - I can lock and unlock my car from anywhere in the world, I can sound the horn, flash the lights, open the bonnet and the boot, put on heating or air con, I can switch on and off sentry monitoring of the car with 6 cameras, I can not only unlock the car but can activate the car so someone can drive it with no key, indeed my Iphone is my key. It auto locks when i walk away and i get firmware updates at least once a month, I can remotely check the level of charge within the battery - If I need Tesla to rectify a fault I don't phone them - I use the app and if it can be done at my home a ranger comes to me, If I take it to them I dont need to see reception, I drive in their premises and they recognise my car has arrived, They welcome me on my cars screen and indicate the reg number of the courtesy car - I lock my car up and take the key card with me, Tesla unlock their car, I recover the key car from their glovebox and drive it away - any charging needed whilst on loan is free. So How much of that does your diesel do?

I can only tell you my experiences with EVs over the last 10 years. The best car I have had so far is the Renault ZOE GT LINE. It's been great! bought it two years old for £15k from Arnold Clarks. This car is crap apparently! But I love it! The latest models are much better, bigger batteries than my 52 kwh one, much faster charging! More toys, better looking, more comfortable! But the Zoe is still better than any ice car I have owned. it's been cheaper to run, more reliable, and just lovely to drive. The list goes on and on. People aren't cueing up to SELL their ice cars yet because EVS are different to what they are used to! and the crap that people come out with is mind blowing especially the news organisations who get loads of money from ice car manufacturers.A wise man lets an ignorant man remain ignorant! If you can't be bothered to do your research and just want to live your life in ignorance carry on, who cares what you drive? Instead of seeing everything as a negative. start seeing problems as, 'solution opportunities!' What are people in business for? It's not to make loads of money! That's not the prime objective! It's to satisfy customer demand! The customer is king! Car dealers are a solution opportunity to supply customers that need the correct transport as a solution for their situation. The more money you make the more you can help customers get what they want and you might earn a living. That applies to all businesses! If you are just looking to rip as much money off from customers and don't give them what they need you will go out of business and good riddance! Customers don't want crap anything, don't want to listen to hard luck stories, don't want to buy the gold bracelet for the Arthur daily's! they want good service and good products that solve their problem.
