Oof, the writers who wrote him, the actor who play him are bloody brilliant ! I personally am not a huge fan but I can fully immerse myself in his character. I like ubbe personally. I always felt ragnor was king, Bjorn his heir and Ubbe was the gods reincarnation on Ragnar upon his death.
I think King Harald is as ambitious as Ragnar, he just didn't have his luck. But he never hid his true goal even from his opponents and strove for it, and, in the end, he realized his dream. I believe that he is one of the greatest characters of the Vikings. Also great video))
It is not only about luck, the direction of their ambitions were quite different too. The difference between the ambitions of Ragnar and Harald is that Harald wanted to rule. Ragnar's ambitions were simple (in a good sense). It was his destiny, traits and understanding of the world that made people admire him and be the one who he became (Ragnar).
This has probably already been posted, but seems that he (this Harold) is loosely based on 'Harald Hardrada' - even though THAT Harald lived a century later, was older when he bacame King of Norway, after years of winning wealth from being Captain of the Varangians, and also, was allegedly 7 feet tall (possibly 7.5 feet, at 5 "ells") But the similarities are too obvious...I really do like both Finnish actors playing him and his brother Halfdan - they are top notch as Vikings - (being Finish helps a great deal). 'Vikings' is strewn with really great characters - as I am sure the Historical Vikings were as well...
@@harrykadaras9459 Harald is based on the first king of Norway. He had a great ambition, fulfilled it and lived to a natural death. Harald Hardrada is the third of that name. And the current king is Harald V. Norway's is the story of Haralds. (And Haakon, Olav, and Magnus)
I really liked the way this actor( Peter Franzén ) played King Harald! He was ruthless but you still felt sorry for him in the end.. l cried when he died ! Also loved the scenes he did with Ivar when they talked about what it meant to king and when Ivar had to apologize for being a bad ruler.Harald had made it his life ambition but once he became king Of all Norway he realized it wasn’t all it was cut out to be .. he didn’t want to rule and preferred raiding instead … a case of “ be careful what you wish for “ ( “there is something about being king that makes people go insane “~Ivar Ragnarsson
Harald is a real warrior, although insidious, but he is a real Viking! I don't believe that Harald died on the shore of his capital, I'm sure that Ivar will find him and offer to join him to raid Engalnd!
For me Harald is the best character after Ragnar. He had a dream and made it possible, he was the first king of all Norway and one of the greatest warriors he deserves Valhalla Skål.
He knew how to rally his supporters, sign of a great leader. He was confident as a warrior, but lacked confidence in his decision making and was awkward and cruel when it came to women which he focused a lot of his energy towards. Still a great character. I liked how every time someone disrespected him or he disapproved of something he rolled his eyes and sucked his teeth as if holding back the urge to slaughter them lol. I also noticed he was shorter than most Viking leaders which probably made it harder for him to reach his goals. Ragnar, Harald and Jarl Borg were my favorite characters.
King Harald was a great warrior and could have been a great king if he had been given the chance. I hope he gets it in season 6b and survived the battle but if he did not then at least he died fighting and would surely have been taken to Valhalla. I always felt sorry for Harald. It seemed no matter how hard he tried fate was always against him, especially in love. He deserved better. A beautiful tribute to one of the greatest characters in Vikings, thank you.
This fucking video made me cry again. I'm watching it right after I just finish season 6a. I couldn't bear to see him fall in battle. He is one of the best characters or even the best in my eyes, I hope we will see him again in the next season ... (great edit for sure)
This video was magnificently done :) Thanks OP It sure sucks how ass backwards Vikings got Norse culture and Norse history period and consequently it sucks what a joke was made of Harald Finehair in fact his life was not so much a tragedy as painted by series but instead it was essentially monumental and made a defining impact on our fair country Norway .
don't feel sorry for him. The real Harald Fairhair was a winner. He unified Norway with his axe and died at a ripe old age with 20+ kids. His descendants ruled Norway for centuries, Harald Hardrada the last viking was the most famous one of them.
Herald was always an underdog and sidekick in the series. He was portrayed antagonistic often but unlike other, he was humble, warrior, survivor and a bit of liar.
They kinda did a disservices to King Harald, but I still respect the character in the show. But in history, or what we get told from the Sagas, King Harald fought and won all of Norway instead of a supposed election.
I like how harald by the end of the show didn’t go out like a bitch I guess Bjorn didn’t either but I mean cmon just stood there and pulled a half boromir even the last season wtf just let’s Ivar kill him that’s not the bjorn I knew in previous seasons
Unless some US Presidents in the past, LIKE YOU KNOW WHO???? King Harald might be slow in thinking at times, and have lost battles, but as a Norwegian figure and a leader for his people, he resembles more as the King of all Norway than Bjorn Ironside. Maybe I'm wrong on this.
No you're right, he has a cartoon villains confidence, no matter how many times he fails he just gets back up and tries again. His determination never stops.
Why does he have dark and dirty hair in this series? He is called Fairhair for a reason, his hair was the fairest of them all. Fair meaning blonde and beautiful. Medieval illustrations also depict Harald Fairhair with lush bright blonde hair.
Am I wrong, or is the entire Viking serie always just about some wild north men fighting? I'd love see and know rather more about their normal day-by-day living, which means struggling and surviving, too! How and what did they farm, handcraft and trade with? Fighting and killing should be just last straw, not dayly business.
You do know Harald Fairhair was the actual first king of a unified Norway, right? They have changed the characters in the show so far from the actual people that few to nothing is correct anymore other than the name.
This is not correct ! ---Harald Fairhair was the real King of Norway and had many many children. Bjorn Ironside went back to Sweden, after his defeat by the Saracens ( he lost more than 40 longships, near the strait of Gibraltar !
