Have the same jack bought about a year ago. So fixed my issues with not staying up. I use as a safty support with jack stands. And damn it does really rapid lift, that should have have been since day one. Thanks bro!!

Good video! As with any new hydraulic pump, you must check the hydraulic oil level prior to first use. If low, service and bleed. In my experience, most hydraulic pumps are shipped with low fluid. Assembly instructions will tell you to check.

Thanks for the video bro. I want to buy a jack from harbor freight tools, was looking at the aluminum but I am just like you , the steel feel is better. Your video taught me a lot about how to maintain one throughly, stuff I never knew what to look for which is why my last steel jack from Sears didn't last ? Daaa....thank God for RU-vid......

That's actually nice. However, regardless of manufacturer, I never rely on any jack alone. Jack stands are always a must, regardless of who made the it.

WD is great stuff but it evaporates! Get a spray can of motorcycle chain oil (Gunk makes it). It comes with a straw and it foams instead of running off. Then it leaves a good film of oil.

I also have read that Harbor Freight jacks (some) ship with low fluid. I think it is a good idea to check the new jack's fluid before you start using them.

I have friends who bought Craftsman jacks that came very low on fluid out of the box. I think this is becoming normal practice in retail these days. It saves the factory money but passes the burden onto the customer...that's my theory.

When you are pumping the handle to bleed the jack, you should have a weight on the saddle to keep it from lifting. Maybe about 10-15 pounds should do it.

First timer here: I just bought the same jack today and did all the prep work (lots of oil needed) and I have a question. When I pump the handle, the saddle raises up and then falls right back down. Do I need to keep turning the handle clockwise to close the valve? I don't feel anything when I'm turning the handle and I'm not sure if there is any tactile or auditory feedback to let the user know when the valve is opened or closed. Thanks!
@exbioman
@exbioman 6 лет назад
Turn the handle all the way to raise it. Not partially.
@jfair98
@jfair98 5 лет назад
Turn the handle clockwise until it stops turning. It seems you can turn it counter clockwise infinitely but closing it off clockwise it does come to a stop when it's fully closed and ready to pump up. Also when you let it back down you only need to turn it 2 or 3 turns counter clockwise it don't have to be turned a hundred times to let off the pressure

WD is a good cleaner but not a good lubricant. Spray silicon is much better it dries to the touch and provides excellent lubricity and is water resistant. It’s also ok to use around plastic, rubber. However be careful around painted surfaces and wipe up any excess or overspray.

Yes, always bleed a new jack and add fluid if needed. It even states this in the manual (not just Harbor Freight, but all of them say this in the manual). I have the older version of this jack and when I got it, it was a good 2-3 oz. low on jack oil. You'll know if you are low on fluid because it will not pump up quick enough and/or it will release too quickly making your car/truck come down too fast, which is bad when you are releasing the car/truck onto jack stands. I know people don't like to hear this because they don't want to have to buy a bottle of jack oil when they buy their first jack, however if you own a hydraulic floor jack, it's a good idea to own some jack oil as you will need it at some point. It will cost you $5-8 for 15-24 oz. so it's not a huge expense and the bottle will last you a good while. Check your oil level and bleed it at least once a year but more if you use it a lot. But if you only jack up your car 4-6 times a year for oil changes, then once a year is fine, unless you see a loss in performance, then you want to check it at that time.

Thanks for the video. Good job! If the hydraulic fluid is low, can you fill it up and "mix it" with "any" automatic transmission fluid for this particular jack? Or do you have to completely drain it and fill it up with one particular automatic transmission fluid only?
@danielnghiem366
@danielnghiem366 9 лет назад
***** Thanks! I will open the box and apply the knowledge from this video on my new floor jack today. :-) The reason I asked about transmission fluid was because I wanted to use the surplus supply of genuine BMW Automatic Transmission fluid (M1375.4) that I have available. Anyway, I'll just keep it simple and stick with the $5 hydraulic floor jack oil. Have a great day! :-)

***** I just picked up the low profile one one bad thing I did notice it has no stop counter clockwise so the ujoint unscrewed on me when I went to bleed it before use . It made a bit of a mess and had to refill but seems ok. Does yours have a stop when turning it counter clockwise or do you think the one I got is defective.
@danielnghiem366

***** Hey Striker520, Mine does not stop when I turned it counter clockwise either. I think it's designed that way; because my Craftsman floor jack does the same thing...
