My Central Machinery 4x6 horizontal band saw that was purchased from Harbor Freight needed a small modification before it could cut 3 inch material at 45 degrees. Now in part 5 of my Harbor Freight band saw series, I show how the clamp capacity was slightly increased to accept 3 inch material. Below are some links to the most cost effective replacement blades I could find for this saw. I receive a commission from some of the links in the description. As a member of the eBay Partner Network and as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Best Budget Blades I could find :
- Coarse Tooth Blade ( 6 -10 TPI ), For cutting thick material : ebay.us/LzDerD
- Medium/Course Tooth Blade ( 10 -14 TPI ), General purpose : ebay.us/muOek2
- Medium/Fine Tooth Blade ( 18 TPI ), General purpose : ebay.us/2KINls
- Fine Tooth Blade ( 24 TPI), For cutting thin metal : amzn.to/3vJdvNa
Blade Lubrication (stick wax) : amzn.to/3HpstKH
Gloves I wear : amzn.to/3xDggRd

I did the bolt modification, filing. I then put two layers of of heat shrink where I filed. Took up a bit of the opening making it a bit smoother.

The heat shrink had the mastic which is a bit more heavy duty.

In the first few seconds of the video it looks like the bolt hole in the "nut' is off center, Coulee you remove the nut from the tightening mechanism and flip it around to get that extra few degrees?

It looks like that may be possible but I'm not sure. Thank you for letting us all know about that.

I've watched all five videos of this series and am looking forward to seeing how you address the bolt used to adjust the clamping angle. With all the adjustments and mods you've made so far, are you still glad you made the purchase? I ask because I am considering a metal cutting band saw for my shop. Your videos on this saw are very, very helpful. Especially if I purchase this saw. Thanks for being so thorough.

So far I'm happy with the purchase. I don't mind adjusting it. The saw has remained accurate after the initial adjustments.

I know your name is budget phill but like getting an appropriate lag bolt is only like $0.50

Reduced shank bolts of an appropriate grade are difficult to find where I live. The lag bolts sold at my local hardware stores do not have the correct thread type or strength for this application. Would have needed to special order the bolt and postpone the project until it arrived. I'm not just Budget Phil, I'm also impatient Phil. Thank you for your input.

Hello, why not put the piece in a vise while you file it? It was uncomfortable watching you holding it by hand ☺️

The vise is in a different area of the shop and I was too lazy to move the camera and extra lighting. If there had been much more to file then I would have moved to the vise.
