Just change the backing( to a Groits Garage 6" Vented polishing pad and you will not look back. That vented backing plate is awesome. Stops pads from getting hot and deteriorating. In the end, it will save you lots of money. I also got the 3" Torq Vented Polishing pad as well.
Thanks for this tip! Before I was considering getting a 5 inch plate from Autogeek and a 5 inch counterweight from Coastal Tools! The backing plate by Warrior seems to be a real problem! The ball bearings and brushes can be replaced by American Ball Bearings and American Brushes! Looking forward to getting the Harbor Freight 6 inch DA Polisher soon! Has the power for the money!
My friend, I see that American Ingenuity is alive and doing well. I bought my Harbor Freight DA Polisher this afternoon and will using your solution to the problem. I may try using the plastic display container the pads came in to make my rings.
I updated the description. You need to glue the plastic ring to the velcro on the backing pad or it won't survive for long. I should have put a bit more mileage on it before posting this video!
That is the 6inch backing plate and the 6inch pad from HF. The pads are made with the hook and loop that don't line up. But changing the backing plate is something that I recommend doing.
I know this video is old by now but that was pretty clever. but I must tell you that that is s 5inch pad ment for a 5inch backing plate. and I use HF DA POLISHER also and what I like about them is you can use 3,4,5,and 6inch backing plate and pads that's why I have 2 of them 1 with a 3inch plate and 1 with a 5inch that way I don't have to slow down my work by changing out.
How about buying the correct size backing plate. Go to chemical guys web site, autogeek.net , detailedimage.com, and meguairs.com sell backing plates. HF is really good after you get rid of the factory backing plate. You can also go to buffdaddy.com for backing plates. He can also call him and he will give you the right advice for what you need to use your da for.
