Hex-Logic Polishing / Buffing Pads:
bit.ly/3N26Nqo
Engineered, developed and tested to specific requirements of our OEM clients. These pads utilize the best foams from around the world and the latest of testing and research and development including Chemical Guys own Self Centered backing system!
The Hexagon is not new to science, it's just new to detailing. Rather then try to reinvent some catchy gimmick, Chemical Guys invests in technology that through the years has simply been unbeatable and improves on it. Hex-Logic pads are designed to hold product and distribute it evenly over the surface of the pad, delivering a superior even finish that is hard to achieve with any other pad.
Nature selected the Hexagon for storage and designed it to be one of the most efficient holding cells. For example a mass of hexagonal wax cells built by honey bees in their nests to store honey and pollen. The bees build the comb with 6 sides for even distribution of product fast and effectively.

If polishing is used to bring out shine and remove scratches, and there are harder pads that u can use, why do u use “compound”? Also... is green and orange pads for compounding and the ones on the bottom for polishing?

Every Paintwork is Unique. Even in a specific manufacturer, the paint can differ from model to model. Every paintwork requires a "Test Spot" to ensure you have a proper combination. I would recommend to start with V36 and an orange pad as a baseline then adjust the pad or polish accordingly to achieve the desired results. -Greg@CG

Thank you guys so much! I have all the hex logic pads, but I've been using them wrong and getting frustrated. This video has shown me exactly which pad I should be using. Thanks again for taking the time to make the video. Reminds me, I need to order a few new pads!
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 11 лет назад
Try using less polish. It seems like maybe you are using a little too much. You should only use 5 small dots for each section. You can always add more polish to the pad if you didnt add enough but it is much more difficult to remove polish. Once your pad gets saturate with "spent" polish, you need to clean the pad using a pad cleaning brush or a Pad Washer. I personally prefer the Pad Washer because its gets the pads VERY clean with little effort. -Greg@CG.

Using the right pad is important as you do not want the incorrectly use a pad not suitable for a particular and demanding job and ruin a car's paint worth several thousands of dollars. Its illuminating and enjoyed it very much.

I Keep seeing all these different color pads (with no continuity between different manufacturers) and no one answers the basic question: Are the pads abrasive-infused with different size grits or are the pads simply different durometers / stiffness?
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 6 лет назад
Hi Hal, this is a trifling question indeed, I actually found a really detailed article on the subject that I think will answer many of your questions, and it will teach me a thing or too about pads as well. The simple answer is the stiffness of the pad and the density of the foam, however I'll take a seat back and allow the article to more accurately describe what's actually happening. www.ereplacementparts.com/article/2663/Abrasives_Polishing_Pads.html C.G. I have a 1986 classic car 🚗 with original paint. It sat in a garage for a number of years before I bought it and the owner told me something must have dripped on the top of the car while it was storage. It looks almost like water stains, but it’s not. A friend came by with his D.A. polisher, but it only removed the haze in the finish, the marks or swirls still remain. Anything you can suggest would be greatly appreciated as I would really like to save the paint as the car 33 years old and all original. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for checking out the video! I've included a link to the hex pad page of our site which outlines all the uses for the different polishing pads, I've also included a description of the orange pad which would be the best choice for you based on the amount of scratches and swirls in your car's paint. Orange Medium-Heavy Cutting Pad-This firm, high density foam is ideal for scratch and defect removal. The orange foam offers the correction of a typical compounding pad while at the same time allowing the polishing ability of light cut foam pad. When used with heavier compounds it will remove moderate swirls and scratches with little or no haze. Its an all around pad that will work on most light to moderate imperfections. www.chemicalguys.com/Hex_Logic_7_5_Buffing_Pad_Kit_p/buf_hexkits_9da.htm

@AaronMattheus

I have the orange pad for compounding and I dislike it so much. It's so hard/stiff it wont bend, so when you compound cars with many concaves with it it wont fold into the concaves. I also use the white pad for polishing and black one for applying sealants/waxes but I like these last two, just dislike the orange pad, think it's too stiff.

+Amateur Detailing Its all bullshit gimmick man. Just choose the pad that has the softness and flexibility that you need... and then just overlay the pad with a microfibre towel or something. So you're just using the foam pad as a backing. I overlay my foam pad with a nice soft, thick, high thread count t-shirt.

@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 6 лет назад
Hey there sleepy, thanks for watching. When polishing, you're removing clear coat to expose fresh unscratched paint. Remember that you can only polish clear coat 1-2 times a year because clear coat is very thin. After polishing, you must apply waxes and sealants to prevent premature oxidation because the clear coat acts as U.V. protection for the actual base coat. Hope that clears everything up. C.G. Alex -

How do one determine the type of paint (hard/soft)?
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 7 лет назад
Hey John, thanks for watching. The best way to discover if your paint is hard or soft is by trial and error. You can also check the internet to determine what kind of paint you're working with. You'll find out what kind of paint you're working with when you start polishing, start with V36 and an orange pad, if that's not working you would move onto V34 and V32 with a yellow pad which is the most aggressive pad. If all these options don't produce the desired results, than you're dealing with hard paint. Hard paint needs to be corrected with either a microfiber pad which has replaced the wool pad over the years, or a rotary polisher that generates more heat and friction which doubles its ability to remove clear coat. You always want to start with the least aggressive approach before you jump head first into the most abrasive compound. The last thing you want to do is remove more clear coat than you absolutely have to. C.G. Alex -

Hi Stephen! Test your combination of pad and chemical in a small inconspicuous area to determine if the you need more or less abrasives. Orange Hex-Logic is a good pad to start with.

My order of blacklight car wash and glaze arrived yesterday. I'm going to get the harbor freight polisher today. I plan on washing the truck claying it putting the blacklight glaze on then using the wet butter wax. Can I use just the orange white and black pads for that whole process? Or would it be better for me to purchase the blue pad for the glaze? I'm new to this so any information will help.

Hey Jason, sounds like you have a great plan of action! Yes, you can use the orange and white pads for the polishing process, then use the black pad for the glaze and wax. Check out the link below for more information and tips to use while polishing! Hi Charlie! Absolutely, the Medium Duty Clay Bar is a great choice for prepping the vehicle for paint correction.

great explanation, thanks a lot, I just bought a new car and it does not have many swirls, still I want to correct the most as possible before coating, sadly in my garage I can't use my polish machine, but since it does not have many deep swirls I will do it by hand. which pad would you recommend me to do this job? thanks in advance.

I have a 2010 black Lexus does this car have soft or hard paint
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 6 лет назад
Hi John, in general, Japanese cars have softer paint, however, these generalizations are a rule of thumb. There are always exceptions, for example if your car has been resprayed. We always recommend starting with a 2x2' test spot first before polishing your entire car to figure out what kind of paint you have and what products will work best for your particular car. Start with V36 and an orange pad and then make changes depending on the results you achieve. I will leave a link below that explains the exact steps to take to figure out the best combination of pad and product to get your car looking new again! Thanks for watching, John, and check back later today for a new video drop! www.chemicalguys.com/How_To_Choose_The_Right_Compound_Or_Polish_For_Your_Car_s/644.htm

The pads are one thing... the compounds and polishes are another... what is v 36 or v38???? Pair them with the correct polish to be more exact... good video but confusing at the same time...
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 6 лет назад
Hi Julio, thanks for stopping by. V36 is an optical grade cutting polish and V38 is an ultra refined final polish, whereas V32 and V34 are compounds. In terms of cut, the products from most aggressive to least go like this: V32, V34, V34, V36. I'm going to leave links to a video that explains the V Line and also to a helpful article that explains which chemical and pad to use when. Thank for watching, Julio, and stay tuned for a new video launching tomorrow! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HrUmQ6uLSPI.html www.chemicalguys.com/How_To_Choose_The_Right_Compound_Or_Polish_For_Your_Car_s/644.htm

Hi! Great question. We have found 5.5" pads to be the perfect size that strikes the balance of coverage and focused cutting power. In fact, all of our polishers ship with 5" backing plates and 5.5" pads! Thanks for watching and make sure to check back later today for a new video upload!

There is a way to remove orange perl without sanding just with compound?

Hi Rafael, good question. Orange peel is going to require wet sanding- there really isn't a way to remove it with just compound. Thanks for watching and make sure to check back tomorrow for a new video upload!

Which would I use for my challenger. I did the mistake of taking it through quick car wash. Which pad and polish should I use. Car paint is only 4 years
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 6 лет назад
Hey Luis that depends if you're looking to do a one step polish or a multiple stage correction. I think you can achieve a more accurate and precise correction when you do a multistage correction. In case you're not familiar, single stage polishes are like an all-in-one for light to moderate swirls. If you are looking for a comprehensive treatment, go with a two stage correction. Here's a suggestion. Start with V36 with an orange pad and see if the desired results are achieved. Depending on the severity of the scratches and swirls on your paint, you may need to use a more aggressive compound. Finish off with V38 and a white pad to remove the marring marks created by the abrasive pad. Don't forget to top off with glaze, sealant, and wax for the ultimate protection. Feel free to send us pictures of the before and after, we would love to see them! C.G. Alex-

I'm in the process of polishing a 1946 Teardrop trailer that's made out of aircraft aluminum that has oxidized, and I've done one side of the trailer by using Blue Magic metal cleaner which came out okay but was a lot of work I'm not going to try with pads on side but was wondering which pad I should use to apply the Blue Magic metal cleaner with? The wool pad or one of the foam pads? Thanks for any help you can give .

Hi there! Using a microfiber pad will easily cut through oxidation and stains using metal polish.

Hey I am going to buy one step polish (polish+finish+protection, Menzerna 3 in 1). So is it better for me to buy the green pad or the white pad because I want to have a nice shiny finish and protection film created after polishing.
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 6 лет назад
Hey Marko, the green pad is definitely more aggressive and is considered a heavy polishing pad. The white pad is less aggressive with less cut and is considered a medium-light polishing pad. The pad you use will depend on the condition of your paint and the recommendations of the polish you are using. Check out the chart below to see all the color pads and what they do. When detailers use our premium one step polishes such as VSS, we recommend the green pad for medium scratches and swirls and the white pad for light scratches and swirls. Thanks for watching, Marko, and stay tuned for a new video dropping later today! www.chemicalguys.com/v/vspfiles/assets/images/HexLogicPolishingPadChart.jpg

I also would like to know how to clean the pads, dry, and can the pads be reused? What speeds does the machine use, I understand low, med, hi, but I'm asking rpm information. Thank you.
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 6 лет назад
Hi! Yes, Hex Logic pads sure can be reused when cleaned and cared for properly. You have a couple of options when it comes to cleaning your pads. You can either clean them by hand with a brush and Pad Cleaner, or you can use the Universal Pad Washer. If you only have a couple of pads to clean, then doing it by hand is probably sufficient. However, if you run a shop or detail many cars, the pad washer is probably a good investment. After cleaning the pads, allow to air dry in a clean, dry location. I will leave a link to some videos below on how to clean pads. Enjoy! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B01zu7wuGA0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4vfvP1Z2R4U.html

Hi Ricardo! Start with an Orange Hex-Logic Pad and V36 Cutting Polish. From there you can determine if more abrasives are necessary.

When i am polishing my orange pad and some v34 i find that half way through the job the pad gets clogged with the polish and isn't as effective as when i first started out on the car. Is there something i am doing wrong?
