Harbor Freight Liquid Transfer Pump - Worth Trying?

On a whim I decided to purchase Harbor Freight's liquid transfer pump to see how well the inexpensive little piece of equipment would perform. Much to my delight it was able to quickly transfer 5 gallons of gas in just over 2 1/2 minutes. That is faster than I can pour it directly from the gas can.
At around $10 this proves to be a cost effective way to keep this handy little tool around for those inconvenient fueling jobs.

Walmart has the same pump for the same price! I bought one at Harbor Freight. We used it to transfer gas from 5 gallon tanks to vehicles. Also used it to vac out older fuel out of ATV and emerg generator. It worked great and i used rechargeable D batteries. After about 6 months it no lonnger works - dead. Tried fresh batteries, no go. I even went to the extra work of flushing marvel mystery oil through the pump after each use. Not sure why it died. I never let it run dry, stopped and poured the last quart or so into funnel in a can or vehicle. For $10 it served well for six months. I plan on tearing it apart to see if it had an o-ring failure or corrosion? it was kept in an enclosed shop. HF also has a manual hand pump for $10. It works for small jobs like sucking out old gas in ATV or small gas tanks.

I definitely need to get one of those. Would keep me from lifting those 5 gal of diesel fuel to put in my tractor. Thanks 🙏

Clean when finished and removing the batteries have made it more reliable.

I have a $2 skinny funnel that takes little effort. Can take the nozzle off of the gas can and pour right in without spilling a drop. Been doing it for years. Today’s “safety cans” aren’t designed for vehicle use, unfortunately.

Oh yeah, the first thing I do with a new style gas can is punch out all the safety features and even then the things still leak fuel if I have to fuel up my CRV. Looks like a handy pump to have and my closest H.F. store is not too far away ;-)

That looks handy, it looks like a person could build a manual pump to do that so it requires no electric. I don't like the fill nozzle on my little one gallon can, I have to pull a lever back and push a button like thing down to let gas out of the can.

Love the idea, purchased 4 units. Now all 4 units have failed. The pump fail after a month or to.

Make sure you clean the pump after using it and remove the batteries. This has worked for me.

I had no luck getting it out the top. I ended up pushing it down into the canister.

I recently purchased two fuel tanks one blue for kerosene & a red one for gas both with those useless POS strainers. To remove them I stick a flat blade screwdriver between the strainer & tank neck to separate the strainer lip from the tank neck so it can be gripped with a pair of pliers. Clamp firmly on the strainer lip and pull it straight out. Note: Some I've done in the past have larger ears half way down the strainer that prevent them from coming out, those require a little more effort but will come out by twisting while pulling, Easy Peasy!

The new tanks are aggravating. And they leak like crazy when filling the lawn mower up.

Mine failed right out of the box. The motor spins but it does not transfer fluid. I have called the number indicated in the instructions regarding this. No one answers and no one returned my call even after several attempts. Harbor Freight shame on you.
