Any Aircat impact I've ever used has never let me down.

I have the HF gun and there's a key thing you have to do. Oil it! Oil it every time you use it. It says in the instructions to oil it everyday. If I skip a time oiling it, the torque drops way down. I mainly use it on caliper adapter bolts.

After taking apart my hf impact stubby... Not much to do except sand the areas where the fins go. I noticed they didn't slide in and out as smoothly as id like. At first it would leak air and not spin up on setting 1 i guess the fins wouldn't engage right away. I then oiled it in reverse, ran a few seconds AND forward 3-5 drops of oil and run a few seconds again. The difference was massive. As others mentioned maybe it loves oil.

I've used the HF gun daily for a few months on passenger cars and id say it puts out a good 200 odd foot pounds which is plenty for most stuff; if it decides to max itself out I just get the milwaukee or a breaker bar. I do notice you have to oil it every day or it will start to feel noticeably weaker but for $70 it has paid for itself already for sure. It's cheap, it's light, there's barely any recoil and it's durable.

I bought the harbor freight impact almost a year ago, it's served me well for the $99 I spent on it, but it's a far cry from the advertised Torque specs for sure! I've been very impressed with the aircat line since I used a 1" drive aircat, I have a Cornwell 1/2" drive that really disappoints me too! Cornwell advertises it at 1350 foot pounds of nut busting, I believe they're way wrong too!

The HF continued to stumble after these tests, even at more reasonable pressures.

I bought a Husky mini impact display model for $29 and I bought the same Husky mini impact from eBay for $40. Later Husky discontinued this mini impact model and Nitrocat came out the same model identical to Husky for $139. So Nitrocat made the Husky for Home Depot. I love it. The Harbor Freight mini impact looks like a Mighty 7 but with a cheap housing and a larger hammer. For the Harbor Fright price, I rather buy a Nitrocat 1056XL.

I have had hit or miss with the Harbor Freight XT line. their quality control is not great. I had a full size XT make less power than the mini-XT so I exchanged it, the new full size has better power, but the trigger leaks air. Quality control.

I love what you guys do. Invaluable data gathering operation. I have the earthquake xt stubby and the shop I work in doesn't have any air pressure regulators so pressure is between 150 and 120psi and my HF stubby has never sputtered like that. I think either I got a good one or yours was defective in some way? Idk. Keep up the great work

My hf stubby repeatedly gets fed 175 psi line, and it hasn't ever stuttered like that either. However my buddy got one about a year after I did and his died fairly quickly. Like within the warranty period. His second one is still going strong though

Nitrocat 1056-xl. Also known as the Hazet 9012m. Also known as the Earthquake EQ12CM. They're twin hammers, very nice. Don't get the xt stubby single hammer, get the NON-xt stubby. If you do the aircat boot 1056-BB for the Nitrocat, will fit on it perfectly, because they're the same gun.

I have the harbor freight one, and its strong enough for what it is intended for. But I would NOT recommend it for long term use, I took it apart to see what's in side, the rest of the components seems ok, but the rear case of the impact is a very thin plastic case. Spend a little more money and get something else.

The moral of the story is there are very few things worth buying at HF , what really blows me away is that you can buy something like an onyx for cheaper that is head and shoulders above an earthquake lol.

I own the HF stubby and I won't say it's a dog but it's definitely not as advertised. I've thrown 175psi shop air at it with a big line and it won't touch most things torqued to 300ish ft lbs. Sucks because I bought it to remove air disc calipers in tight quarters and still had to bust butt with a HF breaker bar to budge them. Also F550 lug nuts torqued to an unknown number. Wouldn't touch them. But for anything automotive car wise, it'll do most everything.

@JrSpitty

It actually takes less force to remove a nut then to tighten it; approximately 80% of the tightening force to remove it. Rust is the only reason a bolt will take more force to come off then when installed. Packaging often reflects higher numbers then the tools is capable of because they know a nut torqued to 1200lb-ft only needs 1000lb-ft of torque (1200lb-ft of "breakaway torque) to remove it. Its marketing!

I'd love to see you test the Flexzilla 1/2 compact impact. It's advertised at 800ft lb max. I wonder if you got a bad copy of the HF impact or if that's pretty typical. I just found your channel. I'll be watching more!
@pospc2
@pospc2 3 года назад
I can tell you that the flexzilla isn't true to rated. No possible way. I own one and I have a bigger 600ft lb impact that would remove fasteners without a sweat that the flexzilla couldn't get to move. The flexzilla also isn't wearing well at all. I wouldn't buy another and would recommend air cat or astro over it.
@john4kc
@john4kc 3 года назад
@@pospc2 Thanks for the info. I have one and haven't used it yet.
@pospc2
@pospc2 3 года назад
@@john4kc it took a few months of shop use for mine to start showing excessive wear on the end(where the socket rides against the case). Also the direction is easy to bump during normal use in tight areas. Don't get me wrong it isn't weak, it removes fasteners that a coworkers CP won't but I don't believe it's true to rated power. When you do use it,don't be afraid to let it hammer for a while. The longest I have let it try to remove something is around 30 secs. Before giving in and loosening it by hand. If you are a home user you likely will be happy. Good luck with yours.
