Well, well; the pond and the trencher are back. About 2 years ago I started watching videos about this trencher and the building of this pond was one that convince me to buy this trencher. It is exactly what the videos lead me to expect and I plan several mods when time permits. So far we have not worked ours hard but it has dug out a small (300 gallon) pond for our turtle and 6 very large holes for trees in 50 gallon pots. Just that much digging was enough to justify the purchase given the price point of this trencher. But, anyone who is considering buying one, heed Henry"s advice from one of his much earlier videos (I didn't and I got very lucky that it did not cost me hours of mechanical work). Replace all those zerk fittings with good quality stainless steel zerks. Henry warned about the two inside the housing for the main pivot pin and recommended replacing that right away, or risk breaking it off and have to remove the entire boom assembly to get access. I figured just lubing it up one time; what could happen? Well, the grease nozzle refusing to let go and pulling at it real hard and breaking off the zerk is what can happen. I say I got lucky because, as luck would have it, my fittings were not very tight and I was able to use an extension with an ez-out to remove the broken threaded body of the zerk. Lesson learned. Those brass fittings are very soft and the time spent replacing them is nothing compared to the time dealing with one that is broken. Great trencher and Henry has lots of very beneficial videos for anyone considering one.
Pump the water out. You wont get compaction with it there. When filling the new soil make sure you compact after every foot. I made my dam wide enough so I could drive my tractor wheels across to compact it. That mini truck would work good too.
