You have already mentioned covering so way to go you might check on having it tested, yall have the makings of a nice place. Enjoy and cherish the time spent working with your Dad. my best memories of my Pop n I were pluggin away at some project or the other Cheers from Texas
now that's cool that's perfect good or not I found a six-inch well Ben grills in the backyard when I was digging behind the old house here it's amazing is 30 feet deep and there's water that is 12 feet down from the top I believe I'll be getting one of those pumps thanks cuz
No worries brother! I used it this weekend to fill the tanks in the camper!! water was cold and sweet :D I did have some issues with the sump pump check valve :( I got pipe glue in it and it wouldn't keep the pump primed.. So, I went out and picked up a brass swing check valve and attached that to the end and it worked like a charm.
I have to pump water from a canal say 1500 liters by a solar system of 2500 watts. I want to use DC shunt motor of 3 hp. The head is merely 5ft. The pump size is 4/3 inches. Very nice video.
Good on ya Jarhead. We finishing up our shipping container cabin and use this exact pump for our showers as well. No well on our property yet, but our local water hauler is very cheap. Septic tank got stuck in the ground this spring and we'll be plumbing everything up later this fall. Semper Fi brother.
I went to your channel to see all this greatness!!! I was sad :( do you have a blog or anything?? I wish I was as far as you were though! I had another subscriber ask me about using this pump for tank water, how does it work for you? I didn't think it would be a great idea, but now that I have someone to ask?? Appreciate the comment. Rah.
My channel is pretty lame. Ill try to get some video this weekend while we're here. But I did a lengthy write up with some pictures at the TSP forum. thesurvivalpodcast.com/forum/index.php?topic=52480.0 The pump works great for tank water. A lot of folks including my inlaws use them and have very little problems. Just have to be sure to keep the prime and be careful about freezing. Oh, and buy a foot valve as it doesn't come with one!
That is beautiful.. Thanks for letting me see the pics!! and introducing me to a really cool forum :D I messed up with my foot valve :( I had to replace it with a new one.. I put the pvc pipe glue in to hold the joints, and it leaked down into the flap. So it wasn't able to hold water and wouldn't stay primed. I changed it out with a brass check valve and that seems to work out ok.
Great property and I like your use of your own water; and, I would suggest an inexpensive water test in case you are ever challenged by your local community on the water quality. As the others suggest, well house is great way to keep pump out of the weather and protect the well from contaminants.
Nice find that well. I am digging a hole in my back yard. But not for water but to put my fermentor into. The temp down there is a constant 13°C at 3m deep. Perfect for a lager.
That is outstanding!! I did a lager a couple times in a shed in the cold months, came out crystal clear and really good :D I plan on doing a good old fashioned hillside dugout to make a root cellar.
Brother they put that non pot thing on the pump as a CYA. We have that same pump on a back up well and the water is the same coming from that well as the main one. Hell the town was trying to stop us from using are wells so we would buy town water. When that happen they tested with out asking me mind you my 2 wells and even there test says it was fune to drink. That one kind of back fired on them.. Just filter the water and your fine. Nice work. God Bless.
the non-potable warning is a recent addition, they used to sell the exact same pump under a different item number that didn't have the warning. the warning is there to protect harbor freight from lawsuits.
+Jordan do make a list of requirements! things you need.. I'm building a home from my own trees. So a requirement for me was no property that was freshly timbered.. I want animals and plants.. so readily available water, from multiple sources was imperative. and I would need cleared land to do that.. clearing land sucks. I wanted to build my own house, so It didn't matter if there was a home on the property. you may want one on yours. Do not settle for something that doesn't meet your requirements or expectations! hope this gives you something to think about.
Thx. Wanted to see the pump in action. Live in the desert on small homestead, and use water tank. Needed somerthing to bring water to rv. I suppose i will eventually get around to building a cabin lol.
The first one actually commented, was very upset that I put bleach in the well :D Thanks for the props! That pump is awesome... They were having a display model sale, and I picked up another one for like 20 bucks. I'm going to put the other one in the cabin.
,10ft of water is a lot more than a few barrels. Its a well, thats why they put it there back in the day. That well will flow more water thru the bedrock than that little pump can ever pump off
You mention that the pump is non-potable a couple of times. What makes the pump - not the water specifically - non-potable? Thanks for the information. We just recently had a well drilled and now we want the water for concrete mixing.
just rememeber too build a well house too get the eletric parts out of the weather.you can get a good 12 volt water pump too . that can be run, right too the camper/ cabin.
I got an ecotemp l5 shower off grid. . The flojet pump lasted one day then died. Need a super big pump to run 3 long hoses to get water in my rv from / with it. I have a generator ...I'm going to go to harbor freight get that pump n see what happens thanks.
Actually!! My buddy uses this pump full time on his camper.. just plug it up to the city water port and it will do fine. My dad uses this to fill up the camper fresh water tank. We still use it to this day :)
Hi, i make the same installation but i have a question. The water pump i have is 900W so what kind of generator/inverter should i buy to be able to work? Most of then in the market have output 650-800W. Will this work?
I run www.harborfreight.com/engines-generators/gas-engine-generators/2000-peak1600-running-watts-28-hp-797cc-portable-inverter-generator-carb-62523.html from harbor freight. Its the more expensive quiet generator, but I waited for a super coupon and got it for a couple hundred. There is a 4000 watt one from harbor freight that is cheap, quiet, and will run that pump no problem.
The original check valve was a sump pump check valve.. I got some pipe glue on the seal and it wouldn't hold the prime.. so I added a brass check valve and it's been good ever sinse.
Thanks, this pump is still working and it's been 2 or 3 years now :) we hook it up the same way... the only thing I changed was the check valve. A few months after this video I changed it to a brass check valve and it's worked perfect.
can u possibly give me a parts list of everything im gonna need to install this in my mobile home PLEASE? I see that youre knowledgeable and i surely need all the help i can get lol...THANKS
great video very instructional the only thing I would have done is scrape all the dead rodents off the bottom of the well first. Guarantee you they're down there. God bless good luck
Did the specs on the pump tell you how deep you can pump from? My well is 40 ft deep. I wonder if it would suck that high? Any info would be appreciated.
I mentioned that to my dad, It wouldn't bother me any. The well needs to be covered to not allow rainwater and any more organic material down in it. That well was the primary source of water for the man who farmed it in the early 1900's so the well can / will produce good water. But yes, a Berkey will remove lead and most all other contaminants (99.9%).
I'm thinking about buying one of these pumps as a temporary water supply to the house, to maybe take a shower or flush the toilet when something goes wrong with my deep well pump. So, if I have 55 gal barrel of water, and this pump is hooked up to the house plumbing pumping from the barrel , is there a safety switch that shuts it off when the barrel is almost empty? I see it has an expansion tank, so it must shut off, when you turn off the faucets inside the house. Thanks
No, there is not a safety stop as far as I know if the water runs dry. You could probably get away with something else a lot cheaper for what your looking to do.. This pump will run a 55 gallon drum empty in just a few short minutes. You are correct, when the pressure tank fills to 35 PSI or so it shuts the pump off.
Appreciate your time with the last reply, but just one more thing, I was wondering, if you might know. The pump is a swallow water well pump, so why wouldn't the water being pumped thru it, not be drinkable? Do you think maybe, in the materials, they use to build this pump, maybe contaminate the water? In my case, our deep well pump failed at the worst possible time, when my wife was ready to take her bath, she didn't take it too well. My goal, is to have maybe 2-3 barrels of water connected, to supply an emergency water supply, until I can figure out why my pump failed. Because it's stated, that it's "non-potable with this pump", I've reasoned, that this water from the barrels will will only flow to the tub and toilet. There shouldn't be any water in the 15 ft of pipe that leads to the kitchen sink used for drinking/cooking water. But I would ran water thru my faucets later to clean the pipes out after the deep well was fixed. Thanks
Hmm,.. I just thinking now, If I fed the water into the hot water tank for bath water, that hot water, I didn't use would eventually be flowing out of the kitchen faucet latter on. I would have to make sure the hot water tank was completely cycled and rinsed out also, after I fixed my deep well pump.
George P I'm really not sure why it says that.. I'm assuming that the materials used make it that way.. But as I said, the from my well isn't for drinking.. Its for flushing toilets and showers. I think there is a better alternative for your application. Send me an e-mail at Kentuckyhomestead@gmail.com and I'll send you my idea.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--NSOSkb4r98.html Check out that video, I'm pretty sure it will do exactly what your looking to do at a way better and more efficient price :D
Can I use a garden hose to put into the well or 1/2 inch trip tubing. the reason I need to use a hose is the well is under a building and I can't use pipe as I need to drop the hose down the hole as ! can't use pipe as it won't bend
I would try some flexible poly tubing with a brass check valve on the bottom if nothing else, I'd assume the pressure of the pump may collapse a garden hose. I'm not a professional and haven't tried a hose.
Umm, I wouldn't think this particular model would be well suited for that. This is a 120v ac pump.. But I bet anything can be run off solar if you have enough power.
Thanks.. It was important to get a way to pump water out of the wells we have. I want to get a hand pump as well I think that will be good to fill buckets and stuff. :D
Would have liked to seen how you installed the pipe in the well and priming it. But I really enjoyed the video and ideas. Why didn’t you run the hose to you camper and fill your tanks in the camper ??
The pipe extends above the pump and has a cap on it. We take the cap off to prime it and screw the cap back on. We do run a hose from that to the camper, and on the end we have a filter. :) thanks for watching!
@@dawinner777 so, I believe it would have, it was a sump pump check valve, but I got some pipe glue on the seal and it wouldn't hold a prime over night. So I pulled the pipe and put in a brass check valve which worked just fine. This is the 3rd year and we still use the pump regularly through the summer.
Thanks for the video. I'm working on a small water system just like yours. What is the pump/tank model or specs, you purchased from Harbor Freight. Looks like plenty of volume and pressure.
Honestly, I can't remember. But it was the cheapest one they sold at the time. This video is a few years old. I can tell you, this is still the same setup we use when we're down there. :)
Still use this every time I go down to the farm. Still works like a champ.. I did change the check valve at the bottom to a brass one and it was a good choice. :D
Frank Segai I'm not sure what you mean by the small thing under the pump. but yes, if you turn the valve off, the pump automatically shuts off when it builds up 35 psi of pressure.
awesome job the money you we'll be saving probably cost you pennies-on-the-dollar to run your pump versus $100 in gas for your truck to bring the water up great job
Thanks WIlliam. I got another pump for the well by the cabin. Im going to use to bring water into the cabin too. Also, there are a few springs above the cabin I want to dig out and build a gravity fed spring water system!
roy tant it's actually not bad. I bought another one for the cabin. It was on close out a few months ago we pick it up for like 25 bucks or something silly!
It will pump until the bladder in the tank is to the pressure you've set. It will pump again when the pressure gets below the threshold, and run until bladder is full.
Kentucky Homestead I just bought the new harbor freight version that is now called Drummond it says for potable water not sure what the difference is between the old one and this one. But I didn’t like the design of the priming port so what I did was I added a PVC T fitting to the output and put Threaded cap on the top of it for priming and the side port of the T is where the output is now. I have not installed the pump yet but will be installing it in about a month and I will let you know how everything works. I’m only going to be pumping pond water for running a sprinkler.
Were now on year two with this particular generator, and it works great! Still quiet and does its job. It wont run a large camper ac, but it runs the little window ac and lights in the cabin just fine.
Good idea to put the bleach in the old well, might remove the ginger spots in your beard too for extra cleaning lol. Good video too. Cheers from Canada
buzzsaw301 it's quiet, but will struggle on higher loads. it will not run the ac in my parents camper, but runs lights and the ac and air compressor I have in the cabin.
No $270 you could jetter a 25-30ft well at sight. DYI 1" 25-30 ft well with 1-1/4 in.Well Drive Point, Gauze-Mesh Screen $65.76 Jetter Pres washer tip Pres washer 4"+2" +1" PVC pipe or water well pipe and fitting and a sledge jhuy hammer 2 in. Well Point Drive Cap $18.42
You have the PVC pipe so you may need more to go down 25-30ft. and At that depth that is not surface water clean drinkable artesian groundwater Clean stuff. Jetter tip Preasure washer check valve well point FIN Your done at the sight next to your house or Trailer
I think the pump was like 98 bucks or something ant harbor freight, and about 30 bucks or so worth of plumbing? It's been a few years so in not sure. But I can tell you, i still use this when we go down to the farm.
Could you give some details on how to carry out your suggestion? I have a nice deep . A well and an electric pump in it now, but I am worried about what happens of the grid goes down. Thanks, Art
unused, uncovered, abandoned wells. must be censidered unusable until desinfection and pumping out until compleatly empty several times and, visual inspection at bottom
