Trolls; only after defending myself from harassment did you start the whole "thumbs down" within seconds of my video releases. I get it, you're all entitled to your opinion, but staying notified with the bell alert and all of that specifically to get on my new videos for no other reason than to give a thumbs down, does not show poorly on me, it shows poorly on you. You know who you are and so do I. Maybe reflecting on the situation, and deciding to treat people with respect rather do nothing but give negative comments every video trying to start an argument would prevent you from being hidden from people's channels from commenting, like you are here. Just a suggestion for future enjoyment on RU-vid.

@@sliptap Thanks. And to clarify, I do not block people who have different opinions, I do not block if they disagree and say "you should have done this or that" or "you did it all wrong". When that happens, all I do is I don't "love" the comment, the comments stay and no big deal. The people who get blocked, are 100% in a bracket of people that comment in this fashion, I will make up a fictional comment but it will illustrate it; "you are so dumb, why did you do it like that literally NO ONE thinks your tests are any good, moron". Those are the type of people who when I try to respond, I typically get the better on them and end the argument with "well you seem to be an expert, so will you please link your video of you doing it better than how I did it so we can compare". This makes people mad, and they keep going on and on and on, so I block them. Then these people keep me in their new video alerts just so they can know when to go on and click thumbs down. It's really sad, but my point is that them being hidden is from their behavior, not mine. I just want a peaceful experience here, and those who disagree and are good people understand how to give constructive criticism. Like, for me I rarely make negative, or should I say criticism comments, but when I feel the need to I do not start up like "you moron, like do you even know anything, are you dumb?" (like the way trolls troll me), but rather I know people put a lot of work into their videos so I try to be nice. The way I see it, even if someone's video is "bad", i'm not going to comment like there's no person behind that video. I comment knowing that a person probably spent hours making it, so it's their project and not much should be argued about what they put out unless there's a massive amount of misinformation. Which, I don't get it when people troll me for "misinformation", as my chronograph don't lie, my gun's reliability don't lie and the ballistic test don't lie lol.

@@GunSam Thank you for taking the time to further clarify your comment. I've done (minor compared to you) some video editing in the past and it isn't easy work. As you pointed out in a previous post, these 10 minute videos can take 10 hours of effort and it's insane how people don't realize the dedication it takes. Anyway, I can definitely see how that would be frustrating or annoying, so kudos to you for handling it better than most of us would. Your videos are very informative and provide a different perspective than the usual "clear ballistics gel tests". The best part is all of your tests are repeatable (like any good benchmark) and allows us to compare everything apples:apples. Thanks again for all that you do and I'm already looking forward to whatever you decide to put out next for us. Grateful that you decide to share your information with us.

@@sliptap This video was actually one of the easier videos. The setup for my normal videos requires 3 cameras and setting up everything right. So much checking of cameras and all of that. Then in editing, because I use 1080 at 60 frames, editing the chronograph and jug or not box camera into the main video is difficult, it's glitches bad so I have to rely on audio, lining up audio until both play my voice with no echo, that way I know the video is lined up, then mute the secondary audio. This video was just wood and one camera, very easy to film and edit. That's half the reason I do videos like this, they are easy and fun and easy to edit. But even so this easy video was an hour of disassembling the box and filming, and another couple hours on the PC to edit right because of lighting and the longest part was the text at the end into the video. But still, relatively easy compared to my normal videos.

This test actually illustrates a point made by an article I saw back in 2010 about why the .357 Magnum for bear defense was better than the .44 Magnum. It put out less recoil and had deeper penetration, which penetrative ability is one of the most important aspects of bear defense as well as good hunting or wild game defense in general.

What I find most useful about this test is it tells you what can happen if you miss in a home defense situation. Paul Harrell showed that 223 and several shotgun loads had no difficulty penetrating a modern home. You've done the same thing with handgun ammo. I'm thinking you might be able to do a series on home defense handgun ammo that doesn't blast through an entire apartment complex. Or not. Very much 👍

LOVE this video! Thank you for making it. Several years ago I made the switch from .45 to .357 mag for bear protection (not solely for that....I just love .357 mag in general but living in Griz country- bear protection is always in the forefront of your mind if you spend time in the woods/on the river). Most of the guys I know have their 10mm Glocks for bear protection and at times I wondered if I should make the switch to it but the knowledge that smaller faster bullets tend to defeat armor ---I wondered if perhaps I didn't already have the best set up. This video makes me feel a lot better about what I carry (and it is the same Buffalo Bore round).

In most factory ammo, generally the 10mm and 357 Mag are about equal. However, if you hand-load both cartridges to max potential in handguns strong enough to handle it, the 357 Mag is tops, hands down. (Buffalo Bore ammo rivals my hottest hand-loads!). The 38 Special is always an impressive performer when hand loaded to potential in a strong handgun. When asked, I always suggest a 357 Mag revolver because the 357 is the most versatile handgun to own. Versatile because the 38 Special can be hand-loaded from pip squeak to flame thrower,and the 357 Mag loaded to full potential is in a class all by itself in terms of powerful striking force that is very controllable from L-frame or larger revolvers. I prefer to load 357 with 158 gr hard cast at about 1300 fps (4-inch revolver) tops for best accuracy. With the newer progressive powders (Hodgdon Lil Gun as one example), it is easy to get 158 gr hard cast to 1450+ fps from a 4 inch revolver at safe pressure levels(SAAMI is now suggesting 36,000 PSI as top limit for 357 MAG, BUT older loading manuals still show the traditional 43,000+PSI 357 MAG loadings!). For anti personnel self defense, my all time favorite handgun load remains the 38 Special 158 grain hollow point at 1000 fps from a 4 inch revolver; accurate, controllable, and the soft lead HP hits like a freight train at modest power and pressure level. The 38 Special 158 gr HP may not be the most powerful, but it is the overall best balanced all around anti personnel handgun load in existence. Buffalo Bore's Standard pressure 38 Special 158 gr LSWC-HP is a perfect loading, and the +P BB version is a bit of overkill IMO, although it is impressive!. Add a 357 Mag lever action rifle to the 357 revolver(s), and any family would be well armed and protected!

I know that in some loads the 357 and 10mm are close and the larger diameter of the 10 may have impeded its penetration some. You are doing experiments that I like to see. The .44 Special and .45 ACP hit the wood wit a lot more force than anything except the .44 magnum, despite having less muzzle energy. Wonder what that says for muzzle energy.

Love your channel! My comment doesn't pertain to this video, I see that this is the latest video you've uploaded so that's why I'm asking this here. I watched one of your other videos on the best rounds for personal defense using 38 special +P, using the snubby Taurus 605 357. You determined the best round was Federal Hydroshok 129 grain JHP. I thought that was really cool because it's my personal carry round as well. Finally my question, I too have the 605 Taurus, which 357 magnum round would you say would be the best EDC round, if I wanted to go 357? I have searched through your videos on 357 rounds but haven't found this answered yet. I'm a new sub & have been binge watching your channel for a couple weeks now. I really like the way you break the information down & just like an old school math class, show your work on your conclusions!! Hope I didn't disrupt this thread, didn't find a email or a way to DM you. Thanks so much!!

Thanks! The reason I haven't done a video on the best .357 Mag for a snub nose yet is that there are so few rounds that I would call great in it, so I was waiting until I get more on the list to make a video, but that might take years. Currently, without hesitation I am going to say for .357 Mag snub specific, the 135 gr Gold Dot short barrel .357 Mag is the best, it is designed to be exactly what it is. Now number two is the Hornady American Gunner 125 gr. This falls more into the class of being poorly loaded for a true .357 Mag as to save money, but the opposite side of that is it performs perfectly in a snub and just like the Gold Dot, has very low recoil. If you want to go the non-HP route, the ARX .357 Mag 86 gr did great, and like the other two it's great because the recoil was low yet it performed well without over penetrating. The Barnes Tac-XP 110 gr is another good round if you want no lead in a bullet, low recoil good damage. Also the Hornady Handgun Hunter 130 gr did excellent, low recoil and perfect performance. Those are all I can think of currently so here's the links and maybe you can decide: ARX ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cwmVxuBuq88.html&t TACXP ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5hHe8PnfHc8.html&t Gold Dot ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vDDhblyjhBM.html&t American Gunner ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c_ZyrAZuqDI.html&t Hornady Handgun Hunter ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V7WEEPtbtCE.html&t

I was hog hunting with my 44/40 iron frame Henry rifle using hard cast lead bullets. Several people told me it would not kill a hog. Unfortunately I killed two with one shot. Double lunged the first one and while lining up that shot another hog had run behind it. The bullet went thru the first and entered the heart of the second. Recovered bullet was very much intact.

Many bullets will work. Interestingly enough my ex father in law who was my ex's dad, her name was Paula, would talk a lot about killing deer. He's killed hundreds. He said "oh a 9mm will knock the snot out of a deer". So anything between deer and hogs 9mm and up will do well. But then online "experts" say no less than .44 Mag will work for anything.

Very good test, always enjoy your vids but this one was very informative and I'm pretty surprised by .38 and .357 I almost expected .44 mag to pass through but I didn't expect .357 to although I though it would do well. I am in the market for a good hiking/ bear protection revolver and had almost moved past .357 but after this I'll still consider it. Keep throwing up the great vids the thumbs down anti gunners are idiots

Thanks. And in the past I did a video with 10mm vs 44 vs 357 with a simulated bear attack, shooting fast at a target at 25, 15 and 7 yards to simulate a charging bear. I couldn't add the 10m into the equation because my pistol is not reliable, but I think it would do well. But between .44 mag and .357 mag I called it that the .357 Mag is a better choice. Very easy to shoot even with this round, as where even lower recoil .44 Mag I could not place shots well. So considering the .357 did just as well in that ballistic test, I say .357 Mag is a better choice.
@keno4755
@keno4755 3 года назад
@@GunSam I was set on .357 until I talked to some people about it that swore that .44 was the holy grail of firearms for outdoors. I have shot them and it is a little difficult to stay on target in a hurry situation. I have a .45 colt but it won't fire hotter loads or it would be what I would use I really like that round. I am seriously considering staying with my initial thought of a 3" .357 to carry on long hikes as opposed to an even heavier .44 mag. Any experience with a Taurus 692? It gives you a .357, .38 and 9mm ability although I am not a fan of 9mm but it's cheaper than the others for practice. I have a few Taurus revolvers already and they have been great including an old .357 with a 6" barrel but I never carry it it's too big and it wouldn't work for hiking.

I would like too see a 45 long colt vs. 44 special or 45 acp. sometimes I cannot decide which configuration (caliber/weapon/bullet) to use. I do love 41mag. It is a very controlable recoil/weapon for me. So many choices and so little money to spend

I don't have a lot of experience with .45 Colt other than shooting a few in a friend's .460 Mag revolver. I have been somewhat interested in .45 Colt, but in a purist type of way, such as I wouldn't mind a single action army revolver, but if I did that I would do .45 Colt for sure, not .357 Mag like some people like to do.
@tylertapp131
@tylertapp131 3 года назад
@@GunSam no doubt! I've always loved the 45 colt cartridge but it wasnt until recent years I got into it with my first SAA. Very mild recoil and pleasant to shoot, but I love the old guns and calibers and am amazed at how good they actually are by all the stuff we have today. If you ever get the chance mabey you can borrow one for the channel for testing, mabey some hard cast and cowboy loads. Honestly though if you play with the cartridge enough you'll end up falling in love with it, plus single actions are just damn cool.

Right now I'm carrying the 158gr Remington HTP that you clocked at 450 fpe out of a 2". Wondering which round you think might be better for double duty as personal defense and bear deterrent.
