I absolutely love double-action revolvers, especially snub-nose revolvers. I do a lot of revolver ammunition testing, but I also test a lot of semi-automatic handgun ammunition. Kid friendly, I never use profanity in my videos. People often wonder my location, and it is simply Michigan.
I'm looking forward to you getting a 3.5 in + .32 acp. I think you'll fine hotter fmj .32 acp from a "full length" barrel like that (950 + fps) will perform just as well as .380 fmj for the same barrel length, minus an inch or two of penetration on average. With less recoil. (Compared to a blow-back .380) Perhaps you could find an older, less expensive but quality. 32 with a longer barrel like a Tanfolglio, Llama, Bersa, or CZ? Heck, a CZ50 or CZ70 is only about $250. If you get a Beretta Cheetah and it's not in .32 already but .380 you can buy a .32 barrel from Allegheny Arms and drop in. Add a .32 magazine and you've got a two-cartridge gun. Yes, same extractor, ejector, and recoil spring. They sell threaded barrels, too. I have one. Top quality and 4.5 in of rifling. Shoots S&B 73 gr .32 to over 1100 fps from my chronograph! Okay, speech over. Get a .32 acp. :)
It's not 1898. The .38 Special has a place but saying "This 38 Special beats the power of a 9mm, .45 ACP and .40 S&W any day of the week!" is pure 'click bait.'
I bought 500 rds of M1152 just for backstock ,but haven't rotated into using it as range ammo yet, because I have a lot of older 9x19 FMJ to shoot up first. Props for shooting double-action, and doing so accurately. Nicely done. I carry a DA/SA HK P30SK V3, and I've spent a lot of time working on that quick DA first shot. I think if I was going to shoot a DA revolver SA all the time (which I see many people do), I'd just buy a SA revolver.
Hey Sam, I recently saw a rather intriguing 38 spl test on some Aquila 125 grain +p jacketed hollow points and it seemed like they ran a little hotter than most defensive 38spl rounds, that and the hollow point was deeper and wider and it seemed to perform perfectly in a rib free gel test. He didn’t test it through a 2 inch barrel though and I don’t think there are any other informative videos on this ammo. Just a suggestion from a fan.
The Defender looks like the bullet of choice for the 380. I assume you have a found a hollow point in some caliber that expands well in bare gelatin but clogs and fails with the denim. Can we make the cheap hollow points work well by filling the cavity with wax or Plasticine?
@@GunSamWhy is that too bad? We already know that .380 ACP is not a powerful round. It's definitely an "up close and personal" round. A pocket pistol round at best. .380 ACP doesn't even outperform .38 SPL, so what's the point in trying to make it relevant? BTW, keep up the good work producing these videos.
Suggest using a brass punch to drive out the hammer retaining pin from the opposite side. It should not be pried out. Just read newbie comment on another site he pried and pried, ending up with a $200 repair bill from Ruger. Prying a bad practice.
Hello Sam, if memory serves, you've not tested .32 acp in a walther pp size (Beretta 70, beretta 82, mab D model and so on) gun yet, if you have a chance to do it, you will in my opinion get a greater accuracy than you did today with the .380, at least with Fiocchi fmj or lrn. When I was fresh from competition practice, I got a 49 (4 ten, 1 nine) one handed at 25 meters with a beretta 82, I couldn't replicate it with a .380. Anyway, given the performance you got from these two loads at 75 yards, I'd say they're not the best for their caliber.
late to the party. .40 s&w sounds like a great choice that i've never did have the chance to train with, here in Argentina is an expensive caliber, just like 45acp. Pretty confident with 9 mm
These tests and others tend to confirm that one might as well use 380 FMJ for self defense because expansion is rare and if it does occur, it causes under penetration. As for the cheap 38 Special JHP load, it seems to work well so no need to spend more money on something else unless the cheap defensive ammo is not available. Thanks for the tests !
That's the most simple minded dumb comment I have gotten in awhile, so congrats. I feel sorry that you to only want to know how things can kill rather than stop threats and save lives. How they perform drastically changes how many shots need to be fired to stop an attack, drastically changing lethality rate. Better performing means less shots needed, less lethality chance. But this stuff is over your head so I don't know why I even reply.
While the 380 was rather meh, it wasn't far short of good 380 ammo. The 38Spl looked to me to be as good as Remington's "HTP" load; the load that is probably the exact same as the traditional green and yellow box stuff that Paul Harrell liked. 250 ft-lbs is also right what you get when you hit the magic 950fps with a 125gr bullet. That seems to be the velocity that most hollow points need to start to open.
If you ever get the chance id love to see magtechs 9mm +p+ load tested. Only gel testing ive seen of it was on old forums and tge pictures no longer exist
My edc for last 24 years is charter arms 38special undercover. 😊 Carried p89 9mm and glock 45acp(23 i think?) But as i got into my early 30s i realized the 38special covered the most bases for me. Still carry my p89 when i go to Atlanta or my 357 when i go hunting tracking. Great vid thanks😊
its a waste of time to choose a gun not designed for the caliber youre using. 10mm is better in an auto loader platform, and rimfire is better in a revolver platform, etc. if youre gonna use a revolver, youre better off with magnum rounds if youre limited in capacity, you might as well get more power. 10mm is better in a semi, because then you have almost the same power of a magnum, but with higher capacity
My dad owns the land, his house is probably 300 yards from where I shoot. Normally he doesn't make any comments, when I finished filming this day he asked if I was using dynamite to remove stumps.
