actually what I think he means is directly translated from chinese, “用心去做题” which actually means you're very focused, concentrated, and you put a lot of effort into studying and doing problems. He does not mean he does problems with his heart literally, it's just that's what it sounds like in chinese
I love these kinds of docs. As someone who is mathematically challenged, the way their brains work fascinates me. Thank you to all the mathematicians out there!
6:35 "how does this crap work?" As someone who studies Maths, I hypothesise all students have said this at some point during their education (I probably do it every day or every other day lol).
I wish that similar program could be run in my country. I remember that my math teacher in high school told us about math competition with finals in Paris. You had to solve few problems and send solution by mail in some preselection zero round. I've tried it by myself and it was early-Internet era. I've spend many hours in libraries and tried to find as many books as I can to get some knowledge (and I had problems with geometry). I haven't solved all problems but I send those which I had ... and never get any answer. It was fun anyway and I've learned a lot, but I think young people need some guidance.
Can empathise my friend one of the reasons I am watching the video is to In a way assume myself being one of the imo participants. It's a fantasy but as long as you can acknowledge it being one I belive it can help you accept yourself and all your shortcomings. Or perhaps I am just trying to justify myself.
@@darkfusca1 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N5fmiAsHxxo.html It's based on the real life story of Daniel Lightwing, who biopic is the movie called X+Y
I have a bachelors in math and there's a lot of math I love, but I don't love it near as much as these young people. At some point I like to put it down and watch Rifftrax or wrestling or something. I'll NEVER have the talent or drive to get a PHD in math, but if there was a PHD in bad movie watching I might be able to get that.
@Abie Egharevba it's statistically true that the representatives of the US for math olympiads are mostly asian or of asian decent, though are american thru citizenship
In india, it's such a shitty system that even if someone gets to know about IMO in 10th grade, it's considered late. I had a friend who was good at math, most intelligent in her class, and with the toppers. We never fking knew wth IMO was until we got in 10th grade. She has an extraordinary passion for math and is ready to do any kind of hardwork to reach and become one of the indian team members. When she called a private institution who got it's students to win at IMO, they told her "you are too late now, please, students start since they are in 8th grade, we won't accept you." She told me that she had to hold her tears back, and that she won't rely upon these people. I believe in her. I know she will reach there someday. Will give you an update ;)
@@student-.. yeah its just limited in pune. there are litrally hubs for these olympiad coachings. we know nothing and no one tells us anything. my friend is preparing for it she'll start giving exams of the prior stages from this year. i wish you good luck if your trying too!!❤🙏
@@ei6442 wait... who did you contact? I'd suggest contact Bhaskaracharya Pratishthana...And... most of the imo guys are literally self trained...it isnt too late... look at rohan goyal... he started in 10th.... now he is a IMO bronze.... you just gotta have the zest...
@@Arch009 we contacted them, they're the ones who let her down. She literally cried after that phone call, i love her soo much and would never want to see her cry. I encouraged her but she was too disappointed. Why would she listen to me if an adult told her she can't make it? I absolutely hate them for this. Thankyou for showing your support though, since it's her passion she solves problems anyways. I don't know how much she knows compared to what is needed, but i won't let her give up ❤️
Why does this picture the guys as though they were born with different brains? Come on guys! They are great, but lets focus on their effort, that is what counts the most
what about this galadriel brady? isn't galadriel some sort of a fiction name from a game or movie like skyrim or some movie about rings? I have heard this in a spanish/mexican movie.
after taking the USAMO and failing to make it to the national team i understand how genius these guys are like holly f*cking shit they're smart i have no chance competing with them atleast i'm glad i qualified for USAMO
It's not you, the problems are getting harder since they can't use old ones and secondly, the number of participants grow evey year. In 2021 there were 640 students who took the test
In Thailand, the national level is Thailand MO… there are 5 problems in 4.5 hours but the difficulty is much easier than that of IMO. For example, the hardest problem on the test P5 is usually just on the easier end of IMO P1 difficulty. I’m glad I’m not from USA because the difficulty of USAMO is like IMO lol. I guess that’s why USA always do well on the IMO…
Somehow these boys avoided the trappings of adolescent immaturity amidst the decadent youth culture that permeates American High Schools. Their accomplishment on the world stage was real and their finish was quite impressive. Seemingly happy-go-lucky Zeb earned a gold medal! A product of good parenting? Kudos, Zeb’s Mom.
@@xdotnx982 Do you care to explain what you are addressing and how you reached the conclusion that I am a martinet? Otherwise your utterance comes across as psychotic spam signifying nothing. and I will assume that was your intent.
If anyone knows, could you please help me out with the name of the song at 1:13:45 (the same song continues at 1:14:30 in the background). It's really beautiful and gives me chills!
these kids are going to invent somethings our lazy kids in the future are gonna sit and complain about their creation lol like we're complaining about old scientists inventions 😂
They are so lucky to be able to work for what they want. They can be brilliant people but you can make an avarage people a genius with those advantages.
Top smart ones always live in isolation which is the best possible way to enjoy their lives!! And the brave minds of them don't need understanding from others!!
So I'm watching this, thinking, what would be the ultimate all around competition. When you see these guys playing the piano or chess or basketball, it got me thinking. This is a snippet of human evolution. What would the ultimate competition entail? Math, sports, strategic games, fine arts, music? What else? What would encompass the full gamut of the human potential? What would the life experience be of people who would excel at all those things?
