And this is a universe were the Old Tevinter Imperium worshipped Old Dragon Gods and practiced ownership of individuals, with dark sacrifices... Yea the tone checks out...
It really seems like letting go of the original story team is now showing its consequences. This reminds me and echoes Rings of Power. All the dragon age window dressing, but has no semblance to the source material. If this doesn’t pan out in other trailers to be more in line with the other games, I’ll consider the series over at inquisition.
The gameplay better be stellar after this shit. I consider DAI female choices for romance to be bad, imagine what I think about what we got from this crap...
Apparently Hans Zimmer is scoring this game. You’d think they’d wanna show that off in the trailer instead of the tired choral cover of well known pop song trope.
Dragon age Origins used to be this dark fantasy, remember when a boy was possessed by a demon and you had to make a choice if the mother will be use as blood sacrifice? or in dragon age 2 where Hawk's mother head was sawed to a body and it became like a Frankintiens? now we have Dragon Age : Gen Z Queer Edition.
I think it's confirmed that all companions are romancable. They also said that the story is about groups, not individuals... I guess they thought that if you add up seven ugly people together, you might get one attractive group person out of it 🤣
I refuse to consider this horrible trailer to be Dragon Age. Unfortunately, I can’t be that surprised. Dragon Age is a dark series that deals with heavy topics. It’s emotional and dark, and the characters are flawed and morally questionable. Even a good decision can lead to horrid consequences. The scenes in DAO with the Deep Roads terrified me like a horror game would, and it was fantastic. That’s what made the romances so special. In all that darkness, it was like a pinpoint of joy and it made me feel things. The characters felt real and complex. Unfortunately, that’s exactly why it was changed. Big companies won’t bankroll dark or depressing things anymore out of fear of offending someone. Gaming is in a sad place right now. It used to be art, but now everything is so sanitized. This trailer has no heart, and no emotion. It’s being entirely marketed on getting to romance quirky characters. That’s not what Dragon Age is meant to be. I want to be scared in the Deep Roads again, then cry my eyes out when my romance of choice goes south. There’s plenty of humor in the series, but the tone is meant to be grim. Seeing this broke my heart.
My bet is that we have a serious WOKE contamination here judging from the sheer ugliness and shallow character imaging. And not surprisingly, everything WOKE touches, just dies. How long should we gamers suffer from this kind of WOKE charade?
what we have is a Game Developer that has nothing except WOKE. When you have a Game Developer that knows the game they are making and have a actual audience like themselves as Gamers, woke only adds characteristics to the characters, it makes they own personal stories more alive, WOKE shouldn't be the entire game. Its very easy to see what game falls into what category. Its all about substance. Unfortunately, this trailer only shows that the game has no substance. I am really hoping this trailer is just a bad mistake, and the actual game isn't like this.
Yeah, the name change opens them up to Dragon Age: The Failguard. Which based on the trailer seems to be appropriate. I do like that Harding will be a companion but when you see her at the start of the video she looks like 20 years older than at the end of the video though she looks really cute at the end. Weird trailer all in all. And I bet the Qu'nari lady might not be a lady or man but something in between.
Feels more like Fortnite x Borderlands than it does a serious dark high fantasy game. My god have this and AC Shadows nuked a lot of peoples excitement in open world RPGs in the past month or so.
I only have two positive things to say about the trailer, i like how there are some unique and darker jobs for the companions, and i think the dragon looks really good and badass and thats it. I hate everything else.
Yup and like I commented in another comment, Bioware is dead in the water and should just sell it's games titles and rights to more trustworthy developers =/ When you have a game copany not giving the fans what they want then there's no point of them making the game at all.
If I remember right this game is suppose to be in Teventer, where mages rule and blood magic and slaves are an everyday thing. This does not fit that tone.
I think the art style is great, but it dosen’t suit Dragon Age. The quality would be fine for a hero shooter. But it did not feel like a mature dark fantasy RPG.
Sounds like a FIFA hymn or some other over-commercialised ad for a completely corrupt company. The "composer" started and obviously ended their studies with the C major scale. Most people probably don't even realise how much this style of music destroys the trailer.
Listen, I'm not gonna sit here and say that I loved ALL the enemies in Inquisition, for example the big Pride demon thingy looked really generic to me, but dear god, the darkspawn skeleton thing? Clash of Clans called.
That skeleton thing is an Ogre, the thing that gives you the same "heart falling into your bowels" reaction as seeing a juggernaut in State of Decay for the first time.
The ratio is worse now. It's around 24K to 125K and dislikes are still climbing. It's heartbreaking. I don't think I can play it if it actually looks like this. If I wanted this vibe and aesthetic I'd be playing Fortnite. And YES!! I cannot... CANNOT imagine even having a deep and meaningful conversation about the world state with any of these characters. I seriously couldn't take any romance arc seriously in this game.
They were hyping up their characters so much that they changed the name… and then gave us a shit ton of characters that look bland, ugly and overall uninteresting. I hope for their sake that the gameplay blows people away.
To me DA:I was already way less dark fantasy than the other two even though it had some hard hitting moments. DA2 was really gritty and had some pretty dark themes whereas DA:I had way more happy and silly moments. But this? This looks straight up like a Valorant fantasy trailer... Of course, the darkest of all is still DA:O. About what they did to the darkspawn, they started shifting in that direction since DA2 and every game since then they look more and more goofy. In DA:O they looked terrifying, now they're just weird skeletons. And yeah, not a single companion seems appealing.
DA:O and DA:2 definetly had the same vibe, dark and blood, the logo for the game and the BioWare logo were both splatters of blood, the DA:O in game trailer was all blood, Hawke on the cinematic DA2 trailers gives himself a blood ''warpaint'', blood mages have always been front and center in DA, it's thematic for the franchise, they toned it down on DA:I for sure but they still tried to make it dark on a more fantastic light and retain the DA ''spirit'' if you will. This trailer? none of that.
The nostalgia doesn't even triggered when I saw the trailer. This feels like Liveservice game like Fortnite. This is not the Dark Fantasy bloody Dragon Age I used to know. This is a ripoff.
This... "visual style" is less Disney/Pixar than it is Japanese MMORPG/Fortnite/Overwatch - Right down to cartoon Physics (just look how high that Qunari jumps to beat on the dragon! FFS!!!). I really dislike that. Rather a lot. On top of that they appear to be recycling the premise from Inquisition, right down to a lot of the plot beats. (or Beat-Offs). If the actual gameplay is ANYTHING like this trailer... I will not buy it. Clearly, they took ALL the wrong lessons from Larian and Baldur's Gate 3 and then compounded that by drawing on popular MMPORGS. This appears to be aimed squarely at older children and early teenagers. And it explains why EA and Bioware fired their DA Creator/Writer.
for me in daOrigins the hair raising part was Hespith reciting the poem in the darkroads on how the darkspawn were created and the brood mother. that set the bar on the darkness this is like palworld does dragon age
This game looks like it was developed by the same poison that drove Saints Row into the ground, with DEI plastered all over it. FFS. I'm so sick of this. We can't have anything anymore.
Inquisition was already a high fantasy with dark fantasy elements, but still was a good game Now it feels like new DA is made by to much of softies who panic when they get a little bloody scratch
You show me that trailer without any text and l would have never been able to tell it's supposed to be Dragon age. It looks complete trash. The fact it was approved in the first place is mind-boggling.
The characters all feel like rehashes of old ones, they're as dull as the art style. Like why did they make Davrin a Warden when the ancient elves are right there? Fans were hoping for Abelas as a companion after Trespasser, and we had the perfect set-up for an ancient elf companion, but no, another Warden. Neve looks like Vivienne, Bellara is just a dalish Sera, Emmrich is an old Dorian, and Taash is Iron Bull 2.0. So boring.
This is the 3rd reaction I've watched regarding this trailer, and rather than sighing sadly, I laughed out loud multiple times. Fucking hilarious man. Still sad, but at least I'm smiling.
This is already up there with the last Saints Row. The fan base wanted one thing and the company served up something only they wanted. The game should like Dragon Dogma's 2 or BG3.
11:45 lore has priority . if the game is not acurate to the lore . you might as well make a salad , because thats what you get when you dont stick to the lore , you get ugly disgusting mix that no one likes
The Veil Jumper was where I think I hard checked out - Like all she needs is the sound of one of those Yipees they give the bugs from Lethal Company. You're not wrong about no one being romanceable either - I was watching and was swiping them off the list. Nope, nope, pass.
Right? I have no idea what this games story is anymore.. We all thought it was about Tevinter, Solas, and the Inquisitor and yet.. You don't play as the Inquisitor.. Why not? Why the hell would I want to play as a side character to the finisher of the story from inquisition? Why would I want to see the end of my Inquisitor and Solas's relationship from the eyes of a third party?
@@Xeno7241 I know!! they go out their way to keep the "tradition" of new protaganist for every new game, but this one supposed to be about Solas and Inquisitor. I'm afraid they gonna shift focusa and honestly just keep us hanging. such a dissapointment
BioWare or EA doesn't care about day one fans.. it's definitely not for those eho played Dragon Age Origins back in 2009. If it'll look like THIS I am done. I am not a kid, if I want to play Fortnite I would play it... It's not Dragon Age anymore.
Also, something else people aren’t mentioning at all is the primary color choice…. Bright Purple? Why Bright Purple? Every DA game has a primary color scheme. DA:O and 2 both used Blood Red, to convey the dark, gritty, fantasy style. DA:I changed it to Green to convey the Fade and the breach. But in this one? Why Bright Purple? The only thing I can think of while watching this is it’s meant to convey “representation” to be more specific “Non-Binary” is what I see when I see that color. But as a long time fan, of everything BioWare, sad to say, I am siding with Solas on this game. BioWare is dead.
@@gurlumbgutsa5430 Or shall I say only good for childrens' cartoons. Adults deserve better. Oh, but now nothing is allowed to look good due to DEI... so nevermind.
Come to think of it, have we ever had any "black" Elves in Dragon Age? Always felt they were far more homogenous and only humans really came in all the variety. So that DALISH warden fella gought me off guard for sure. Also, why isn't Varrick blond? Even with old age it should be like grey hair, not black. And what's with the music? And wtf is with this story, like a team of plucky go getters and DEI miscreants going up against gods and empires? What I loved about DA:I is that you still had an army doing most of the grunt work in the background. Made it feel more real, and even in DA:O you were gathering an army since you couldn't fight Loghane and Darkspawn on your own.
There was at least one black elf NPC in Inquisition. But in the first two games elves did seem more Celtic inspired. And yeah, Varrick used to be strawberry blonde, so not sure what’s going on here.
The veil jumper part is a great point. Going physically into the veil requires lots of power and resources in DA lore? I am not well versed in it anymore, but there was a reason why Corypheus as a powerful Tevinter mage with his colleagues were like the ONLY ones to do it? Like, what the fuck are we talking about here? Oh, right. Strong diverse female character can do it all. Sorry but this DA looks like a woke/DEI nightmare, judging by the art style, tone and other characters also. Like the black elf and the female Qunari (even though the race name is not Qunari, it's their religion). This was not made for the fans, from what I can tell. This looks like another game for "modern audiences". I'll wait for the gameplay and the inevitable shit storm that will follow and how some dev / community manager starts attacking the fans.
I didn't realize that was Varric until he spoke. I thought it was his kid or something. Again, what do people expect when they chased all the actual talent out of BioWare and let the Sims 4 crew take over? No wonder it looks like Overwatch. Winter Burrow was the most interesting thing I think I saw out of Xbox's showcase yesterday, well maybe State of Decay 3. Jury is still out on that one.
I get what they were trying to go for, showcasing the crew you pick up, but the tone is completely off from what it should be. As a comparison look at the mass effect 2 trailers for the characters, now that is a dark and gritty feel. standalone trailer was great, no issues, but not for this franchise.
I'm a woman, I'm 40, and I already don't want to romance Lucanis. He looks like Blackwall in DA:I and that guy was just... ugh... None of the male characters here seems attractive in this game (and I'm the one who cried like a baby for a bald elvish dude...).
I'm so glad I'm not alone with the whole not wanting to romance any of the available options from what we see in this trailer. Absolutely none of them catch my interest, I didn't feel particularly intrigued to learn more about them. I think the devs already heavily implied we'll be able to romance any of the options regardless of player gender. If I buy this game, I'm totally gonna play as a mage and attempt to romance the mage killer for laughs. The way you said "I'm not dating the griffin" has me rolling. I didn't even realize it would be a romance option and I'm dying inside.
The first time I travelled to Skyhold in inquisition, it was one of the most immersive scenes I have ever experienced in a game. This new DA looks like the artists from Civ did the artwork...hopefully the gameplay will be like the DA's of old.
I completely share the disappointment with cartoonish characters and lack of darkness in game style. Also I was REALLY disappointed how they changed Varric. As far as I remember, he’s BLOND, and he didn’t have a beard for ideological reason: he despised dwarven rules and politics, so he wanted to separate from them as mush as possible. Correct me if I’m wrong, but he’s literally the only dwarf who shaved his beard off.
When I watched the trailer Its reminded me fragment of the movie Godfather when Don Corleone said "Look How They Massacred My Boy" . It just sad what they did to this game...
THIS is utter garbage are you for real Bioware? Completely throwing us day one fans who are with you since 2009 in the trash can.. CRYING I am and always will stay with my opinion NOT to change something that WORKED into something else ENTIERLY. It would be alright IF this wouldn't be a "Dragon Age" game... I am despertly hoping the game won't look like the fever dreeam of trailer.
I gave your video a thumbs up when you said you didn't want to romance anyone in this game. 😅 That's exactly my feeling. None of these characters seem interesting, none seem to have depth, none seem like they could be taken seriously. It's just the trailer and maybe the game will be different. I really hope so ! The characters will perhaps (surely) be more substantial than that. But I've looked at all them and my first thought was that there aren't any that I would want to recruit. And no, even as a 40-years-old woman, I don't want to romance Lucanis. Too much Blackwall vibes in this dude. 🤢 (Neeve seems pretty cool though. Maybe the least failed of the bunch.)
Leliana and Cassandra could be the hottest of hot characters and I'm still not going to support this Fortnight/Marvel abomination. Nothing about this game and the new characters look appealing in the slightest
@@blakegrimes3557 yes, it does take away from the game imo, where romance was always a big part. But yes, it's one of the many reasons this game will likely be trash
@blakegrimes3557 it's unrealistic and weakens characters autonomy, agency and actual personality. You can't just roll up to someone that is not your sexual orientation and preference and make them want you nor is every person pansexual. Cheapens the romance aspect 100%. Not the #1 worst thing but annoying AF.
Who is going to romance those characters though? They made sure to uglify the female characters, they look like your average plain Janes you find at your local mall. Nothing striking about them. Cant compete with female companions from previous games. And the guys... they look even worse! The only good-looking one is the elf, but they ruined it by making him bl ack.
Yeah I’m late but you said everything I was thinking. Huge departures. Cant sell the story.. we already did veil stuff in DAI. Can’t sell the romance(I agree with your takes there as a guy) .. even in DAI it was bad. Also the tone is all wrong. Yeah sure it’s a trailer. Okay, you can’t do a trailer?! What about the game.. I’ve accepted the death of the franchise a few years after origins but at this point I don’t wanna them touching ME either.
Tomorrow I’ll look at the gameplay, whether I want to buy the game or not, but with a high degree of probability, most likely not, I won’t even accept it for free. Regarding the characters - I have no words here. How did they come to this 10 years later?!!!
I honestly felt the same way. Harding and Neve were the only two females that sort of looked good. The rest weren’t attractive at all. They preached about how great their companions are and they all look boring and bland.
I agree 100% with every character being romanced regardless of gender is lame, It makes them feel not truly alive as characters. People in real life have different sexuality's, different people are straight, gay,bi etc. Baldur's gate 3 had this problem aswell, so did Dragon age 2, characters like isabela being romancable for both genders makes sense because she's slept with men and women, but Some of the other characters don't make sense. like anders, you would think by his personality in awakening that he'd be a charming ladies man, then in 2 he has the hots for you even if you're a dude. I actually would have liked an aveline romance in da 2. It could have had a interesting story of aveline learning to love again with you replacing Donnic if you engaged in the flirting. Kind of like Isabela's but more "pure" I normally go fenris with female hawke, and Merrill with male hawke.
I agree, plus it makes you try out different protagonist you wouldn't usually make (I'm a woman who usually picks a female character, but I made a male inquisitor just so I could romance Cassandra :') )
Completely agree with you. I hated that problem with DA2 and BG3 for the same reason. Characters like Gale and Anders just don't give off an attraction to men because their dialogue doesn't even mention men in all the times you speak with them about romance (Gale is obsessed with Mystra, Anders mentions wanting to settle down with a woman specifically multiple times in Awakening), so it's so awkward when they suddenly come out (pun intended) and say they like your male character. I also think it's the same with Astarion on the opposite end. It also really restricts story potential like Dorian's personal quest in Inquisition.
@@nolss02 exactly, it adds replayabilty. Say for example mass effect you wanna romance tali, you pick male, and for garrus you pick female. Same for games like Star Wars kotor, even baldur's gate 2 which is also BioWare has romance options that are race exclusive.
@@maryapple7108 BG 3 is amazing but that's one of the flaws of it. The game assumes you want to romance someone or multiple people and some people just want to play the game without romancing, sure it's a small amount of players but the game should still respect that for those people. I feel like astarion and gale should have been female only option, they do have very sweet romances. Anders in da 2 also hits on you randomly and you feel awful for not rejecting him, I think you also lose friendship points. When it comes to Dorian, isabela from 2 also had that problem, you miss her backstory if you don't romance her. Dorian is cool, but Didn't romance him so I had to look it up. What I love about origins is morrigan can have different arcs with you. You can take it slow and tell her you care for her and she'll eventually fall in love with you, or you can have a casual relationship with her and choose to be more then that or not, or you can have a genuine friendship with her and she'd be happy just having a real friend.
I was originally annoyed Sera from DAI was locked behind a female protagonist, but it made me play the game differently and gave me a different perspective than Solas whining about the past. These characters just feel like Hallow titles and not like living breathing people
What are you meant to feel with this trailer? It's by the book corporate AAA slop. Pop music, flashy name cards, zany and quirky characters that act aloof during stressful situations, a narrator that talks about nothing and an art style filled with saturated colours. This isn't Dragon Age, it's a mix of Borderlands, Fortnite and Guardians of the Galaxy.
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who instantly thought of Wish. I think the reason why all the characters seem short is that they have those cartoonishly large heads/faces, so all the proportions look out of whack against the more realistic settings and animals like the dragons. Totally agree with you on all points, except slight disagreement on the romances being player sexual - it's just so much better for players to have more options. I get what you're saying - it feels nice when your love interest is legitimately into the gender of your character, because it feels like the character is a real person and might actually choose your avatar, not just because they "have to." But that feeling also comes from approval/like systems, and the good feeling isn't worth the horrible feeling of having to play as something you don't identify as just to be able to experience the romance of the character you like. On the subject of the love interests, yeah, a lot of the companions aren't really doing it for me. Davrin is the hottest and I'm just glad that I'm into dudes and have him as an option bc I agree with you on the girl options. Harding is a dwarf, the qunari is ugly, the veil jumper looks like she's going to be an annoyingly upbeat, "zomg so quirky" Sera-type character, and the detective looks like she's gonna be a shady-ass ice queen type with a chip on her shoulder. It's great that there's a lot of options here for people that like various things but I don't get why games don't just make it a rule to include ONE basic sexy fan service lady for the folks of more traditional tastes. I bet you if the qunari lady had softer features, eyeliner, and her tits out, we'd be seeing the internet blow up right now like when Resident Evil revealed Lady D. All I ask for in return is an equally sexy slutty dude as one of the male love interests.
Harding was one of the better written npcs in Inquisition and in many ways better than fodder like Vivienne or Josephine. If you'all can't look past she being a Dwarf that's too bad.
The Inquisitor had the anchor to which could close tears in the veil. I feel nothing for this game been waiting since I was twelve played all three games and the expansion for them and this game makes me feel nothing for it
The series has gotten progressively worse with each installment. I'm not expecting much from this game. I'm also not a fan of the continuous linking of the games through Varric. He's overused and is just nostalgia bait at this point.
The compagnions in Inquisition were atrocious tbf. I had to give the game to my gf bc I couldn't deal with all the whiny, horny and quirky feel they had.
