Seth never gave $18,000 for the guitars. He gave $1,800 & when he found out they were worth a lot more, he called the father & daughter back in. He then gave them an extra $1,000 for a grand total of $2,800.

If it is a staged part it highlights the importance of being aware but if not his wording was that of a scam artist he told her what it was and made it seem like his offer was the equivalent to what he had. Unprofessional giving her the impression he was to be trusted in evaluating the items and price so she walked in thinking the price offered was a fair one and that she was lucky she came to them

We should all remember this is just a TV programme with numerous set-ups to make it look interesting. Never met a pawn shop owner who was not adept at conning the customer. The item will take time to sell, there are overheads etc etc. Never met a pawn shop owner who was not well off

She presumed the offer was a representative of the discovery made. to not give her an honest evaluation has to be illegal as she left it with them to assess the stones for that reason . He even stated pop back later and well give you an idea as to what you have . Valuations are standard practice when pawning only varying slightly at the top end of the price

PS doesn't always do things out of the goodness of their hearts. Les banked a fortune on that Burmese Ruby that he got for a bargain. Burmese rubies have become so rare that they have always created a stir in auction rooms. In the auction history, unheated Burmese rubies were going for more $1 million per carat.

This is what i hate about pawn shops and the like, they not only take advantage of people when they are desperate but they absolutely rip people off,whats so wrong with giving a fair price and still making a decent profit,the amount they knowingly rip people off by is just greed greed greed. Thats why they seem so interested in peoples stories,its only to find out how desperate they are.....
