We continue shaping the Hardtail vise dynamic jaw in the G&E shaper, getting the two side's of the vise body rough machined and ready to the finish milling. I also give you a peek inside the shaper to see how it functions and makes it work. #abom79 #metalshaper #manualmachining #hardtailvise

Even after spending my days as a Mechanical Engineer (before I retired) working on and watching machines run I can still watch old machines run for hours! 😆

I just can't get enough of the shaper. It's so relaxing to watch it cut chip after chip. How simple machine it is, but how efective. Plus the finish it can give is just so perfect.

@@bertblankenstein3738 I don't believe he intended to have them finished offshore and was keeping all processes in the USA. Which was part of the problem in getting them rolled out.

Used to love running shapers. We always aimed them to shoot the chips toward a wall. Half inch deep cut in 6150 steel with .020 inch feed. Those chips were hot and nasty. I still own three shapers. One is a Swedish Varnamo 16 inch and two 8 inch Atlas bench top units. Shapers still come in handy for lots of uses if you use them correctly.

Tasty beverage. Tasty cigar. I'm a product of the 70's education system where all machining was taught like this. Adam, you could make a 2 or 3 hour video and I'd never consider hitting the fast forward button. Can't wait to see how you machine the inside of the base of the vise. I'm thinking the shaper and your custom boring bar! That would be a treat to watch!

I have always been in awe of the massive CNC machines accurately making parts like crankshafts for high horsepower ship engines and the like; but the CNC machines of today would not exist it wasn't for the fine machinists that made this shaper and machines like this one. Yep another Aussie who couldn’t sleep on an early hours Sunday morning, and clicked on this within minutes of it uploading. Can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying this one Adam. We know it’s not a production run for Fireball Tools, it’s a personal passion project. Really enjoy the methods you employ to teach others, the filming & production values are likewise excellent. You thoroughly deserve your success, you’re earning it over & over again. My only criticism is that a week between vids is too long to wait, I’d watch one a day if you could produce them that often as I’m sure would the majority of your subscribers. I figure you’ve done your hard yards with production work early in your career, essentially making money for early employers (in this case your forebears) so you have paid your dues in production machining. Nowadays your skills and knowledge are more valuable teaching others. Look at the corpus of work you have created with your library of videos. To say that others appreciate what you do is an understatement - it’s a life’s body of instructional work, not unlike what Mr Pete has created in his later life after a career of class room teaching. You have a class room of willing participants who span the globe, and I’m guessing your legacy will live on long past your physical lifetime to benefit a great many others over due course of time. Don’t listen to the nay sayers Adam, just keep doing what you’re doing, because it is working for you & for us your thankful audience. 👍👍👍🇦🇺

You speak of Adam as if he were done with long hours in the shop, and are probably right. But his success is due to having grown, nurtured and extended the full reach of his on line presence; a marketing feat in which i suspect his marketeer wife has helped. Whoever replaced him at Motion does not have an automatic 'out' at 40 , based on his undoubted skills and contribution to the production world; his 'break' will come after another 25 years when he steps into retirement.
