The tragedy of being a communist in a capitalist system is by far unexplainable until a man experiences it. And worst of all, if he experiences it by being the head of the ruling communist party. Massive respect to him for what he was and under the situations he was in.
Exactly what I think. Communism is by no means a 2 minutes noodles. It is an apple tree which takes time to grow and bear fruits but once, it does, it continues to do so for another 100 years. In a capitalist system, communist policies cannot be set up either. If you do so, you lose elections while the opposition labels you inefficient and you add more weightage to the "failures of Communism". It is truly very complicated and more so, for the common people to understand the complications due to the blatant lies told by other parties. The CPI(M) is more of a social democratic party now than it is a Communist one. Let us hope for the best.

Where Bengal is today is due to this coward... He loved his party like anything, destroyed industrialization, education. He knew best how to lockdown factories and calling bandhs after bandhs. People of Bengal started enjoying strikes then. Students Union broke down the education system, students from class 7-8 used to learn about Marxism and participate in the debates and these great "leaders" encouraged those practices. The only communist leader I like is Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, he really wanted to change the fate of Bengal. But this coward criticised him when Buddhadeb Bhattacharya urged govt employee with a slogan of "do it now". It was his ego that lead to the fall of communism in WB, Rajjak Molla his follower, leaked some important information of land reforms, Subhash chaktaborty used to give media bites against his own govt. and we all knew who was behind it. He was a selfish coward lived a kings life.

The same communist policies have put Kerela at the top of rankings in India in almost every field. From education to healthcare to labour conditions and economic growth. It's after Mamta Banerjee that West Bengal started declining. Even today, Uttar Pradesh has lower literacy rate and worse condition of labourers... So, running the propaganda to ruin the reputation of such honest intellectual leaders won't work.

When asked why in 10 yrs not a single new school has opened, he said I don't know. And for many other questions he said I don't know where you got the figures etc. Surely CPI(M) has not kept in touch with the facts and figures of other states. Mr Basu appeared unprepared with numbers. He looks tired and fatigued too. Considering that Bengal was the first halt of Western education and modern thought, the state seems to be losing its grip on education, healthcare and land reforms. These are the areas where the Left is known for its work world over. And if you fail in these vital core areas then its natural that people will find alternative policies.

Perhaps Mr. Thapar will look back upon this interview and do some soul searching himself. After all, he was speaking with one of the most progressive leaders of independent India - someone who also went to jail for his beliefs.

How did he say that there is no alternative to communism in Bengal? When the journalist told him that in last ten years there was not a single primary school opened in West Bengal, illiteracy rate was higher than Punjab, infant mortality rate was very high, education scenario was in dismal condition, unemployment rate was high and Jyoti denied all questions.

Also, Marijhapi happened because Bengal government did not want refugees to come here because there was already a huge population which the then government was facing issues providing basic amenities. The Bengal government requested the central Congress government to close the borders and send the refugees back. Centre did not even respond. What happened next was both shameful and sad. Ironically, the ruling government is also trying to stop the refugee influx but only Muslims and that too in a sort of non violent way by implementing CAA. I guess both the Communism and Nazism have their own flaws.
Mr Thapar had the boldness to interrupt Jyoti Babu. The entire Press Corps used to tremble when his convoy entered Writers Building. The doyen of Communism who understood the true DNA of Bengalis and went for gradual changes.

In 34 years of Communist rule, there was only one thing that is development. He made the whole state. Under his leadership, every year jobs were given. Factories were made. People got out of poverty. People got educated. IT sector developed. Cities developed. If he and the communists are bad people, then why did not any of them went to jail? Why did not any people was ever caught in any bad corrupt activity. They would be never cause they are educated people. Communists always want to do good for the people. If he wasn't good, then why West Bengal was the only state that wasnt affected by religious division and no territorist attacks when the rest of India was suffering from that. Jyoti Basu once said, '' those people who try to create disturbance in the name of religion in the state, they shall be shot on their''---this should be the words of a legendary leader. There was no political disturbance and fights under his government. After the Communists lost in elections after 34 years, the state became a hell. Once when under his leadership, Bengal was the number 1 state of India, now you can clearly see its condition. No jobs from 2011, no improvements in the life of people, no factories made. Corruption started taking place. Democracy became autocracy and dictatorship under TMC who just lies and boasts about development but actually no development has happened. This is the difference between Communists and other that they never boasts and tell lies but works for the betterment of society. Now if people have to get a job, they have to pay huge sum to get a job no matter he is educated or not. Here when communists win, they dont judge a person by their wealth and judge based on their quality, so people coming from families which are middle classed or poor if they had education, they got jobs. Government under communists were able and just and no corruption took place and you can just find difference that there are so many educated communist leaders out there who being highly educated still lives in mud and straw houses. Our then communist chief minster Buddhadeb Bhattacharya took just a monthly salary of Rs 10000 and lived in a rented house. And if communists were greedy, they would have left their party and would have gone to BJP and TMC which are parties of thieves. And you can see the difference, each and every communist leader is educated whereas the prime minister of our country is very low educated. You can also see the leaders of TMC and BJP who once lived in the condition of poverty and now they are riding BMW. The governments nowadays boast and tell that under them the state has developed but nothing developed. Communists dont lie. Most of the works they have done are revolutionary but every government have ups and downs and faults not like TMC and BJP who whatever does anything are faults and making lives of common people worse. Communists agree upon their mistakes and try to rectify them, here when they win. And all the important institutions and revolutionary works and metro system and bridges were all made during the time of Jyoti Basu. People like you who dont know anything about this legend must keep quite. And if Joti Basu was a bad chief minister, he wouldnt have been elected for 23 years and you should remember that communists respected the voting rights of the people of this democracy and they never created any trouble.or pressurize the common people to vote for them like what happens now. People understand everything, which government really thinks for them otherwise people wouldn't keep them for 34 years. And remember the best state in India, Kerala is also under communist government. Also the best hospitals in the state were built during the communist rule.
