I just purchased a 74" Sapele from you guys. After sanding and treating it with mineral oil and a good waxing, the color is amazing. I'm using it for a computer desktop so the tone of the wood gives it the ideal look and could not be more pleased.

Do you still need to sand these before you put any oil or finisher? I'm interested in the walnut. If so what grit sand paper should I use

It is recommended to fine grade sand Hardwood Reflections Butcher Block before your choice of finish.

Do they come in different widths, like 36", etc. And if so can I buy direct from you. I went to Home Depot today in Moncton, NB, and they told said they couldn't help me. They didn't know if I could order 36" wide. I need approx 6ft of the 36" wide, and about 16ft of 25" wide. Thanks Perry

What would you recommend for a sturdy/durable desktop? I'm also not sure which wood would go best with a dark stain. Thanks!

If you're going with anything under 8' all of our solid wood butcher block options are going to meet your needs as far as weight is concerned. As for the top coat though, go with a permanent finish like polyurethane. As far as the dark stain, you'll find that they'll all look nice but we'd personally go for finger joint acacia or a thermal ash!

should these be sanded down a bit before staining with a gel? I'm getting the birch butcher block and like the walnut color stain.

Don't know if you already got it, but yes, the wood is rather rough feeling compared to when you sand it with a 220 grit or even finer

Very disappointed in the advertising for the "solid acacia" with live edge. I went to Home Depot, very excited to pick up a new desktop. By chance, there was a four foot piece next to it which had a three inch "chip" out of the very thin top veneer. And...there was no damage to the packaging, so it left the factory like that? And, the chip clearly showed that the grain on the top veneer and whatever was below it, didn't match so it wasn't a "chip"...more like a "tear" in the paper thin veneer. I don't call that "solid", nor should you. Solid means that when I touch the front and back, that it's solid, not a core wrapped in veneer. After peeling the plastic wrapper back, I wasn't even sure if the veneer was a real wood product. It felt like plastic. I showed it to a store employee and they agreed that there was no doubt it was veneer and that if I cut a couple inches off one end, I would have an unfinished edge that could never match the rest because I cut the veneer off. The tall marketing stand next to it (from Hardwood Reflections) clearly says "Solid Acacia". Very misleading and I assume there's some legal loophole as to why it's allowed to be marketed that way. Don't buy this if you really want solid acacia.
