On Friday, September 21, 2007, Harlan Ellison had his last public appearance in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. Ellison, arguably one of the most important writers of the late 20th century, was invited to Cleveland Public Library to participate in the Midwest premiere of "Dreams with Sharp Teeth," the biographical film documentary of Ellison's life and work. The evening began with a greeting from the Library's Deputy Director; an introduction to the evening from the Literature Department manager, and testimonials from local literary luminaries as well as Ellison's niece. After a viewing of the documentary, Ellison himself provided extensive remarks and heartfelt gratitude for everyone attending. After Ellison spoke, he spent several hours signing books and talking with attendees who waited patiently in line. Cleveland Public Library and the Ohio Center for the Book are proud to share this rare archival videotape footage with the public.
