Underrated gets thrown around a lot, but I never hear about Harland even in casual conversations about stand ups. Ever! I laughed more at this than many many others.
@@Sickwithit355 Do you realize most people discovering him now haven't heard his bits from 25 years ago? This dude is on a roll recently and is great at riffing on the fly. People love him, no need to be a hater my guy.
Harland killed it. First time I ever seen him on a hour special. I’ve heard his stand up was good, but this surpasses any expectation. I’m gonna have to make it a point to see him live one day if I get the opportunity! So frickin funny and creative.
I regret not rediscovering Norm sooner. I loved him as a kid in the 90's, the kinda... forgot. Then stumbled back across him 20 years later only for him to die just as I was realizing he was literally my favorite comic of all-time. Then I saw Harland on KT, so funny went to check out his pod. He mentioned how he was real close with Norm. Makes sense. Crazy. He's super fkn hilarious too tho. I've never seen this special before. He rolled right through the crowd interaction, was way out in left-field for his time. Very cool. Anyway, have a good'n friendly fella.
I saw him do standup a few weeks ago. Absolutely hilarious. Met him and got a picture together after the show. Nice guy. It’s was one of the best comedy shows I’ve been to.
@@royeaston6067 countless jokes on the crowd, thats off the top.. just because they practice it a million times doesnt mean its all scripted exactly. they are always trying new ways to finish a joke or add to it, maybe take some words out, say something different, change the order etc so many things... you cant just blatantly say he didnt freestyle anything in this special, thats just foolish.
@@royeaston6067He comes up with jokes in his head, but unlike a lot of comedians, Harland doesn’t write his jokes down or plan his set out. He has said he just goes out and lets his mind do its thing for the most part.
🏆😎👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I just now watched this special for probably the hundredth time. Harland Williams is truly one of a kind. He is so unique, so talented, and hugely respected by tons of comedians. What really bothers me is at the end when the crowd doesn’t give him a standing ovation. He deserved a thunderous round of applause. Sometimes people just don’t know that this is a thing. I mean, his crowd work was outstanding. He sang throughout the show. He has impeccable timing. His ability to transition with ease and carry an entire show to completion without a single lull shows that he has an exceptional amount of skill. He even threw in a, “Come on now!” (Won’t cha now!) The way he gets down on one knee when he addresses someone. His adoring terms of endearment that he uses with audience members. He is stunningly handsome. Harland I have adored you from day one my friend and Harland, This one’s for you.. 🎤 👨🏼 🏆👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
If you're still on RU-vid maybe you'll get a notification since this stand up is so old. I just discovered him last night October 2022. He was on the Gutfeld show. Never heard of him, but the more I'm watching I have seen him, I think he may have even had Parts in movies. I've watched stand up my entire life, premium channels, Netflix since it was invented. To my knowledge he's never been given a 1 hour standoff with Showtime HBO or Netflix. I'll search later. In today's woke world, I just watched something recent. Very funny guy. He gave the best explanation of still joking about gays Etc. He said I tell people I'm not making fun of minorities I'm making them inclusive. More people need to realize, if the topic is popular enough for a comedian to joke about it. Then their part of everyday America. Most people don't realize, comedians have a very high IQ. They also must keep up on current events in order to last in the industry. Since he did this stand up, the USA has changed so much. It's gone so crazy, drag queens performing in schools. Sorry that's a step too far. It's not worth a joke because it's absolutely insane. Perhaps that is the joke, the insanity of drag queens performing for grade school students.
He's so great at casual improvisation, makes it so funny fluid and natural. And I love how he interacts with the crow, "my love", "my friend", "buddy", "darling", etc
I honestly would dare say from the 80's to 2010 were ACTUALLY not horrible all things considered. Obviously not saying tough times don't exist but. Magical is pretty close to the right word for me as well.
I met this guy in Baltimore, he was the coolest guy ever, I saw him standing in the hallway after the show & I immediately yelled “gimme that booze you pumpkin pie hair cutted freak!” Got a picture with him & he signed my shirt. Love that guy
Sure but demand and supply. Comedy shows for example who know they can sell 500,000 seats out, aren't always gonna eat the unrealized loss and limit it to a 100,000 seats instead (numbers are mainly just an example, scale up or down for the same point really). They'd be potentially losing out on 400,000 ticket sales, just to create a bit more intimate of a venue. Capitalism has done this to entertainment. Started golden in the early 2000s, then people profitmax and cut corners to inflate bottom dollars.
Gotta say, I've never heard anyone interact with his crowd the way he did that day. This goes down in the history books of stand up comedy for those who have real appreciation for comedy
Man, I put this on and added it to my watch later because I thought I’d finish it later. Nope, sat and watched the whole thing through while laughing my ass off the whole time. Such a class act.
I love comedy and comedians and can't believe I never heard of Harland Williams before today. This was an extraordinary show. I can't wait to start listening to more of his comedy.
I have seen Harland multiple times and ranks as one the greats of my lifetime. He does a lot of crowd work, can really engage his audience and is a good guy. I hope when the world settles and we can go to shows safely he'll return to my area.
Wow. The way he brings the audience into the bit in multiple ways is so good. The tattoo one is a good example. He is definitely underrated and should be up there with the best of 'em. His podcast is my favorite along with Theo's and Matt and Shane's.
His performance in Something About Mary has stayed with me for years....I'm delighted beyond belief to find this. I thought he was just some obscure actor....but he's a proper comedian....and to me, comedians are greater than rockstars..They are GODS.
Harland, I've been watching your pod and your specials too. sort of deep diving. just found this one today. Your stories, jokes, and the crowd were flawless thanks for the og
Harland was/is so ahead of the game. I love how sweet he is to everyone while still being razor sharp. He’s still killing it! One of the most unique guys to do it! He and Norm McDonald are the kings.
Must be a Canadian in a Canadian venue... Clue #1) He made the Tim Hortons comment and #2) The banter with the lady in the audience that he thought smoked DuMaurier cigarettes... Harland, you have done our country proud!! You're hilarious!!
Glad he's making his comeback with all the trash comedians being forced on us the last decade. I hope he gets booked on Kill Tony more soon. He's so good at riffing.
You could tell me it was all planned or the noises were production but i wouldn't want to hear it. This felt so organic and shows how talented harland has always been! Great special and a even better person!
